それから半年の間

For the next six months.

私が悩まされたのはむしろ別の事柄である

What troubled me was rather a different matter.

月末ごとに柏木が金の返済を迫り

At the end of each month, Kashiwagi demands repayment of the money.

利子を加えた額を私に通達して

なんやかと口汚く責め立てた

I harshly berated them for various reasons.

しかし私はもはや

耐え難い物事も耐えやすくなった

Things that are hard to bear have become easier to endure.

死を予感した人のように

Like someone who senses death.

寺の者たちに対する私の愛想は良くなり

My demeanor towards the temple's people has improved.

包帯は明るく

The bandage is bright.

何事につけ和解を心がけるようになった

I have come to make an effort to reconcile in all matters.

自然とすら私は和解した

Even nature, I have reconciled with.

冬の朝な朝な

On a winter morning, day after day.

梅ぼどきのノコンの実を

The fruit of the umebodoki (Japanese apricot).

ついわみに来る小鳥たちの胸毛にも

Even the chest feathers of the little birds that come to the feeding place.

親しみを抱いた

I felt a sense of familiarity.

老子への憎しみさえ私は忘れた

I have even forgotten my hatred towards Laozi.

母からも

From my mother as well.

包帯からも

From the bandage too

あらゆるものから自由の実になった

I became the fruit of freedom from everything.

しかしこの新しい日々の

However, these new days

住み心地の良さを

Comfort of living

手を下げさすに

Lower your hands.

成就した世界の健忘だと

It's the amnesia of a fulfilled world.

錯覚するほど

To the point of illusion.

それほど私は愚かではなかった

I wasn't that foolish.

どんな事柄も

Any matter

終末の側から眺めれば

If you look from the side of the end times

許し得るものになる

Become something that can be forgiven.

その終末の側から眺める目を

The eyes that gaze from the side of that end.

我がものにし

Claim it as my own.

しかもその終末を与える決断が

Moreover, the decision to bring about that end

我が手にかかっていると感じること

Feeling that it is in my hands.

それこそ私の自由の根拠であった

That was the very foundation of my freedom.
