Yes, I am Shuko Sasaki, the representative of Sasaki Industry. My work involves designing and constructing diplomatic projects.

Exterior construction, civil engineering, landscaping work, and work around the house.

The main area is centered around Makinohara City, and I am working from the west in Hamamatsu to the east in Shizuoka and even up to Fujisan.

I see, thank you. Focusing on Shizuoka Prefecture, particularly the western and central regions, we are engaging in activities around homes as part of such diplomacy.

Is it correct to say that it's related to your work? Yes, that's right. So, about how many years ago did you start engaging in diplomacy?

Yes, that's right. So, about how many years ago did you start doing this diplomacy, and...

Yes, that's right. So, about how many years ago did you start engaging in diplomacy, and what was the reason for that?

What was the trigger?

What was the trigger? The diplomatic construction started after independence, right?

The diplomatic construction actually began after gaining independence.

The diplomatic construction began after gaining independence, right? Before that, I was training under the individual contractor of road construction.

Until then, I had been training under that one master, the eighth master of civil engineering.

Taking the opportunity of independence, I would like to switch to housing.

Mainly exterior construction.

I changed the main focus to foreign construction work.

I see.

At first, while doing civil engineering work.

What made you shift from there?

In my previous job in civil engineering, there were quite a few cumbersome things.

I accidentally targeted a hernia.

I had a period of temporary closure.

Regarding the revival

There are fewer things to throw away around the house.

Next, I will change the area around the house.

I think it's really fun to change the scenery.

Directly interacting with customers is

I started because I thought it might be a good fit for me.

I see.

Not just the basics, after all.

Because I often interact with customers due to the surrounding circumstances.

So it seems that it was regarded as quite enjoyable as well.

That's right.

はい

Yes

"But even so, being involved in creating that kind of home..."

What made you decide to make it your job?

After all, being told "thank you" directly by the customers...

The customer wants to live in a house like this.

When I realize the kind of space I want to live in,

Wow, it's amazing to receive thank you messages from customers.

Being thanked or being told something makes me really happy.

それが

That.

It feels like I've become addicted and just can't stop.

I have this image that being at the scene is quite difficult.

Because it's a job outside, it's on site.

I think it might be tough with the heat and all.

How is it around there?

Wow, the heat of this summer in the past few years has been abnormal.

I've been feeling a bit overheated and prone to heatstroke recently.

I see, that's how it is after all.

How many hours are you usually out for?

Well, when I leave for the site, I'm already out from around 8 AM to about 5 PM.

I see, that's how it is. How many hours are you outside?

はい

Yes

You're doing it under the blazing sun, huh?

Wow, this summer is especially tough, isn't it?

It's already abnormal, isn't it?

It's definitely abnormal.

When it's around 35 to 33 degrees, I think it's kind of cool.

That's strange too, but...

My senses feel a bit strange.

I guess it was about 5 or 10 years ago.

It's completely different, isn't it?

That really is something you feel the most, isn't it?

Because I'm employed.

That's right.

その後

After that

Do you have any tips or tricks for getting through the morning?

Recently, there are those air-conditioned clothes with fans attached.

Wow, it really has a fan on it.

I'm going to wear that.

I'm wearing that, and it's sort of okay, I guess.

But when it's hot, only hot winds come, you know.

そっか

I see.

Because I'm breathing in the outside air and then exhaling it.

The wind is coming, but it's hot.

That's right, that's right.

Well, it's better to have it than not have it.

Well, it's more like it's better to have it than to not have it.

I see.

You're currently hiring people, right?

Well, I have employees who are 25 and 24 years old working beside me.

Now, I'm together with both of you.

Yes, now with three people.

You are going around with three people.

Do you have any days off?

We will basically take Sundays off.

Also, when the weather is bad or when it's raining heavily, we will take a break.

Also, when the weather is bad or when it's raining heavily, we take a break.

I see.

Well, if you start doing this job, you get to interact with people, and that's when you realize it’s a good thing.

But still, is the part about what was good about doing it there, or is there something else? What are the merits of this diplomacy?

Is it this part, or is there something else? What's good about this diplomacy?

Is there a benefit to diplomacy?

For example, there are times when I do things like stone paving or stone walling.

I wonder if it's possible to engage in this by becoming free of thought.

I see.

That's right.

The process of doing each thing like this diligently.

That's right.

It might be suited to my nature.

Has it always been like that?

Yes, it's been that way since ancient times.

For example, what kind of things did you like?

I might have liked quietly working on tasks.

Putting it into shape.

It's a little hard to express, but...

For example, I was good at model building, or plastic models.

I have liked plastic models since elementary school.

I really do like creating things, you know.

And also art class, etc.

I knew I was good at it after all.

Were you good at it?

I think I was quite good at it.

Did you not dislike it?

Yes, that's right.

I guess you liked creating things, huh?

Yes, that's right.

What kind of child were you when you were little?

When I was a child, during elementary school, it was amazing.

He was a serious elementary school student who listened well to what that teacher said.

そして?

And?

And during middle school, I had a somewhat easy-to-influence personality.

A little mischievous around.

Because I had a lot of friends.

I was being a bit mischievous with that friend.

What kind of mischief is typical for middle school students?

Is it something like riding a motorcycle?

I did ride there a bit during middle school.

You're going to do it, right?

There are various things that are really difficult to say right now.

I also got into mischief like that.

Have you ever been helped by the police?

There is a little bit.

Is it already now?

You know, it’s hard to imagine coming from Shuuko-san, right? Boys often say things like that, don’t they? Because they’re boys, it’s something that happens. I hear this a lot while raising children.

Well, I think everyone has those times to some extent.

I see, I see. So you mean things like making holes in the wall?

There is no hole in the wall.

That's not it, there isn't that.

But with such a mischievous time, what will high school life be like?

During high school, I got carried away with the bad seniors.

Beaten up by a group.

Is she the one who got beaten up?

それで

So, then.

そこから

From there

はい

Yes

Realizing that violence is not good and that being delinquent is not good either.

I think I'm going to try living a little more seriously.

I've had a lot of painful experiences, you know, during those青春 (youth) days.

"It's like I'm trying to pull my feet away from this world."

That's right.

I often think it's really impossible now.

Looking back on it now, that was just a youthful impulsiveness.

I see, I was made to realize that I was getting carried away.

Looking back now, it was good, but I went through some painful experiences.

That's right.

So, what will happen from here?

So how about that? I graduated from high school normally.

I was able to graduate, and from there...

I graduated and temporarily got a job at a regular factory, but...

I have been working on a flow operation where things continuously come from the right to the left.

"I'm starting to feel a little off."

I think I'll quit in about three months.

I was wandering around a bit.

I was like a NEET for about 2 or 3 months.

At that time, the word "neet" wasn't common.

There was a time when I was a NEET.

That's interesting.

"I've been told by various people around me to get a job and start working."

At that moment, there happened to be someone who introduced me to a job as a car mechanic.

I went to a local company called Saga Good Auto Repair.

I have decided to get a job.

はい

Yes

So there...

I worked there for about eight and a half years.

What did you do for work?

Well, it was fun. I really like the product.

It's like a job fixing cars or something.

I always thought it was fun to be in it, and as I was watching, I said "hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm."

I wanted to think of it as "middle of the evening."

I was thinking about fixing quite a few tanks, but thank you very much for that.

But it was really fun, and cars are constantly evolving.

I have to keep learning new things as I keep remembering what I've learned.

A workshop on Prius repairs has started to emerge as the Prius became available.

It has become a very complex car.

I think that in the future, ordinary cars won't be able to be repaired anymore.

I see.

So I was struggling with life there and decided to quit my job.

A little wandering for nearly a year.

Yes, I wandered around for self-discovery.

Excuse me, how old were you when you went wandering?

It's when I was 27.

I had been at a car dealership for about 8 years until then.

はい

Yes

But it feels like I'm going to hit a dead end a little further on.

I guess it means that I can't see the future anymore.

そう

Yes.

That's right.

And then I thought it's okay to quit my job and decided to resign once.

Are you still single at that time?

はい

Yes.

I wonder if they are still single.

What did your parents say at that time?

My parents must have something they want to do.

"Thank you for supporting me to do what I won't regret."

Such parents.

Hand over a bunch of cup noodles.

It feels like you've sent me off.

I was traveling by car.

That's right.

Wow, amazing!

Well then, I'm going to go somewhere now.

Did you get your parents' permission and go somewhere?

Well, I guess it's like saying I'll go just to keep it in mind.

"Just go."

Wow, your parents are amazing!

Mom and Dad

I still think you're a good understanding person.

So what happened with the car packed with instant noodles?

Where did you go?

All 47 prefectures.

It's come around again, hasn't it?

How long is the period?

I don't think it will take about a year.

I'm just driving around aimlessly nearby.

You've been going around quite a bit, haven't you?

I feel like I'll be able to have a lot of interesting experiences.

Please share two or three things that left an impression on you.

What stands out to me is...

Around August 1st in the middle of summer.

When I arrived in the northeast of Japan.

The temperature is about 13 degrees, and I feel like I'm going to freeze to death.

And then, in Okinawa, it's really about the beauty of the ocean in Okinawa.

はい

Yes

I was attracted.

I see.

So you really went all the way from the north to the south, huh?

That's right.

At that time, I decided to travel to all 47 prefectures.

That's right.

But you actually accomplished that, didn't you?

About a year.

That's right.

How did you manage your finances during that time?

The money is the money saved from all jobs.

Before quitting my full-time job, I'll work part-time at a ramen shop at night.

I've been saving properly, and I've decided to go!

I see.

In the form of using it up.

Is that so?

So when you were traveling to various places, it wasn't because you were working part-time?

Well, that's unlikely.

During the journey, focus solely on the journey.

Be dedicated.

はい

Yes

Depending on the place, they might ask you where you came from.

Did those kinds of conversations happen as well?

That's right.

It's become such a daily routine for everyone to always call out to me.

Being offered to stay.

Being treated to a meal and such.

Thank you for your support.

Are you still connected with the person you met at that time?

Yes, still yes, friends I met in Okinawa and such.

I still keep in touch and go to weddings.

はい

Yes

Wow, that's impressive! It feels a bit strange to say it, but I'll see it through, that housewife.

Why are you being so careless?

No, no.

Well, I mean, isn’t it just that I might get discouraged halfway through and think about coming back, or just get tired of it, and yet I’ve gone ahead and done it anyway?

Well, since I've said it, I think I'll wait for everything.

えー

Eh?

That was around the age of twenty-seven or twenty-eight.

It was around the age of twenty-seven or twenty-eight.

Yes, yes.

Wow, that's amazing! So what happens after that when you say you came back?

Well, during my travels, I got to create various things with my friends I met in Okinawa, like building houses or stores. I had the opportunity to be involved in the process of making things, and I thought that being a craftsman is something you can do anywhere in Japan or even around the world.

I thought there might be something like reuniting at the site and eating something there.

It's not that it doesn't change.

If I could start something.

That's right.

If I could start something.

I was thinking of touching it with my hand.

Well, I thought I would become a craftsman after returning from my trip.

That's right, yes.

It means that there was a connection that led to my current job.

Well, that's where it started, but I worked in my hometown.

けど

But.

I realized the mindset of wanting to become such a craftsman during my travels.

ただ

Just.

I see.

Did you build a house when you were in Okinawa?

It's more like a home.

I made a little bit of the facility's buildings.

Creating something from nothing.

I'm attracted to that kind of thing.

"This is good, so that's what it means."

Something like that has come into me.

That's right.

I came back here.

It's good to come back after a year.

I thought I'd do something to make.

Does that mean they went in that direction?

That's right.

I thought everything was the same, though.

I happened to be invited to civil engineering.

I joined a civil engineering company.

Looking back now, I wanted to be a carpenter at that time.

Maybe I made a little mistake.

The civil engineering guy came.

That also connected to diplomacy in its own way.

I'm glad to hear that.

I see.

It wasn't the form I had hoped for, but go ahead and try it.

Now that I think about it

When I look back, it's all connected.

はい

Yes

Ah, I see.

I see, since it's about manufacturing, you prefer to make houses.

I had the image of someone like a carpenter.

It means "It was civil engineering."

I made a little mistake.

I messed that up too.

But I tried going in.

So it’s like, I gave it my all like this, right?

I think that was good in its own way.

Well, when I think about it like that, it feels like...

Sasaki's life is like this too.

It's like, how should I put it, it's as if it's become one river.

It's flowing in.

I think that's what it is.

That's right.

I've been carried along by the flow, haven't I?

うーん

Hmm...

Well, even so, amidst all that...

There is someone who has always been by your side, isn't there?

That's right.

うん

Yeah.

Homes and surrounding facilities

Mr. Sasaki, who works in diplomatic exterior.
