音楽との出会いについて話していきたいなと思います

I would like to talk about my encounter with music.

雑誌のインタビューとかでも一度話したことがあるんだけれども

I've talked about this once in a magazine interview, but...

ある大きな勘違いをしました

I made a big misunderstanding.

中学生の僕

Me as a middle school student

中学生の僕がした勘違いが一体どんな勘違いだったのか聞いてください

Please ask me what kind of misunderstanding I had as a junior high school student.

音楽というかロックに目覚めるきっかけのお話なんですけれども

It's a story about how I awakened to music, specifically rock.

最初の最初は中学校1年生の技術課程の時間

It all started in the first year of middle school during the technology class.

技術の時間に作ったラジオ

The radio made during technology class.

Manually turn the power on and off.

手動電源のラジオを技術の時間に作ったんだよね

I made a hand-powered radio during technology class.

で学校で作ったからさ

Because I made it at school.

家持って帰ってきてくるくるくるってやって鳴るかな

I wonder if it will make a sound when I bring it home and spin it around.

音入るのかなってやったら入るんだよね

I wondered if the sound would come in, and it does when you do it.

ザーってすごいひどい音の中

In the midst of the terrible sound of a "zha,"

なんかラジオどっかの曲のところにさチューニングしてさ

I was tuning into a radio station to some song somewhere.

あ聞こえた聞こえたって

Ah, I heard it, I heard it!

はっきりした音じゃないんだけど聞こえて

It's not a clear sound, but I can hear it.

わーってすごい自分で作ったやつがこんな風に聴けるんだ楽しいってなったんだよね

Wow, it's amazing to hear something I made myself like this, I had such fun.

だから一番最初はラジオにちょっとハマったんですよ

So at first, I got a little hooked on the radio.

うん

Yeah.

で最初の何日かはその自分で作った学校で作ってきたね

For the first few days, I was working on creating the school I had made myself.

そのラジオを使って聴いてるんだけど

I'm listening with that radio.

全然チューニングがぴったり合わなくて

The tuning is not matching at all.

しアンテナもそんな良くなかったのかなわかんないけど

I’m not sure if the antenna was that good either.

あんま

Not much.

いい音じゃなかったんだよね

It didn't sound good.

ノイズが乗っててひどい音だったんだ

It had terrible sound with noise mixed in.

うん

Yeah.

それで部屋の中を見回してみて気づいたんだよね

So I looked around the room and realized.

あうちになんかもっとちゃんとしっかりしたラジカセがあるじゃんと思って

I thought there should be a more proper and sturdy radio cassette player at home.

うん

Yeah.

ちょっと大きなCDラジカセがあったから

There was a slightly large CD radio cassette player.

それで自分でラジオつけてみたんだよね

So I tried turning on the radio by myself.

そしたらめちゃめちゃ綺麗な音で聴けるわけ

Then you can listen to it with an incredibly beautiful sound.

綺麗な音って言ってもノイズは乗ってるんだけど

Even though I say it's a beautiful sound, there's still noise over it.

学校で作ったのとは比べ物になるんだよね

It's on a whole different level compared to what we made at school.

とりあえず一週間とかラジオを聴いてるんだよね

For now, I've been listening to the radio for about a week.

何が面白いってことはないんだけど

There's nothing particularly interesting, though.

今までラジオっていうものをあんまり知らなかったから

I haven't really known much about radio until now.

なんかすごく新鮮でそれが楽しかったんだよね

It was really fresh, and that made it fun.

うん

Yeah.

でテレビとかでは全然やらないような話をしてたりさ

They're talking about things that you wouldn't see on television at all.

テレビとかでは全然聞かないような音楽が流れたりしててさ

Music that you don't hear at all on TV is playing, you know?

ラジオの不思議な魅力に取り憑かれたわけです

I was captivated by the mysterious charm of the radio.

これで感のいい人は

"With this, those who have a good intuition..."

ラジオから流れてきたらいいんだよね

It would be nice if it played on the radio.

あの曲が

That song

なんて展開を想像するかもしれないんですけど

You might imagine what kind of development it would be, but...

違うんです

That's not it.

あくまで僕は

After all, I'm just...

物に興味を持ってたんですよね

I was interested in things, you know.

で学校で作ったラジオも面白かったけど

The radio we made at school was interesting too, but...

家にあったらラジカセすげーって

If I had a boombox at home, that would be awesome!

その時点で僕の頭の中はラジカセすげーになってたんですよ

At that point, my mind was totally like a boombox.

で

So, then.

このすげーラジカセに

This awesome boombox.

いろいろラジオ以外にも機能がついてるなって気づくわけなんだよね

I realize that it has various functions besides just radio.

カセットテープを入れるとこが2個あって

There are two places to insert cassette tapes.

カパッと開けてCDを入れるとこもあると

There are places where you can flip it open and put in a CD.

これはカパッと開けたとこのCD聞いてみちゃうかなってなったわけですよ

I thought I might give a listen to the CD that I opened up.

うん

Yeah.

それでまた部屋を見回してね

So, I looked around the room again.

CD棚を見つけて

I found the CD shelf.

それまで本当に音楽を自分で聞くなんてことしたことなかったから

Until then, I had truly never listened to music on my own.

CDもね

Also, CDs too.

あの僕にとっては新鮮なものだったんですよ

It was something fresh for me.

それを見てみたんだけど

I took a look at that.

本棚

Bookshelf

CD棚からCDを取って

Take the CD from the CD shelf.

ジャケットを見ていくんだけど

I'm going to check out the jacket.

どれも僕にとってはなんだか怖く見えたんだよね

To me, they all looked somehow scary.

そのロックのCDって

That rock CD...

ちょっとジャケットが怖かったんだよね

The jacket was a bit scary, you know.

その中学1年生の僕にとっては

For me, as a first-year middle school student...

で

And

なんか外国人の人の顔の写真だったりとか

It was like pictures of foreign people's faces or something.

ちょっとなんか怖い絵だったりとか

It was a somewhat creepy picture.

うーん

Hmm.

なんかちょっとどれも

It all seems a bit off.

聞いてみる気がするんだけど

I feel like asking.

気になれないなあ

I can't help but be concerned.

と思ってたところに

Just when I was thinking that...

一枚ポップなジャケットのCDが出てきたんですよ

A pop-styled CD jacket popped up.

うん

Yes.

ポップなイラストのCDが出てきたんですよ

A CD with a pop illustration has come out.

真っ白の背景に

On a pure white background

赤いロブスターの絵がぺっと描いてある

There is a picture of a red lobster drawn on it.

その名もロブスターというCDなんです

It's a CD called "Lobster".

うん

Yeah.

そうです

That's right.

ザ・ハイローズのロブスターです

This is Lobster from The High-Lows.

松本ひとしさんが

Mr. Hitoshi Matsumoto

ジャケットの絵を描いたみたいなんだけど

It seems like you drew a picture for the jacket.

それで

So, then.

あっ

Ah!

このCDだったら怖くないかもって思って

I thought this CD might not be scary.

そのCDを

That CD.

弾かせのとこまで持ってって

Take me to the part where I can play.

CDセットして

Set the CD.

カパッと蓋を閉じて

Snap the lid shut.

再生ボタンを押して

Press the play button.

シュルルルルルルってなって

It goes shurururururu.

音が始まるのを待ったわけです

I was waiting for the sound to start.

そしたらその後驚いたね

Then I was surprised after that.

本当に驚いた

I was really surprised.

すごいかっこいい音が流れてきて

A really cool sound is playing.

しかもきれいな音

Moreover, a beautiful sound.

ラジオと違ってノイズがなくてさ

Unlike the radio, there is no noise.

めちゃめちゃかっこよかったんだよね

It was really, really cool.

そのハイローズのロブスター

That Lobster from High-Low.

だけどその瞬間の僕は

But at that moment, I was...

ハイローズがかっこいいとも思わなかったし

I didn't think the High-Lows were cool either.

このロブスターっていうアルバムがかっこいいとも思わなかったし

I didn't think this album called Lobster was cool either.

ロックンロールがかっこいいとも思わなかった

I never thought rock and roll was cool.

なんだかわかんなかったんだけど

I didn't really understand what it was.

僕が思ったのは

What I thought was

CDってかっこいい!

CDs are cool!

って思ったんだよね

I thought that, you know.

わかりますか?

Do you understand?

この勘違い

This misunderstanding.

ラジオ経由でCDにたどり着いた僕からしてみると

From my perspective, having discovered it through the radio and then reaching the CD...

選んだCDの内容がどうこうなんじゃなくて

It's not about the content of the chosen CD.

CDという媒体がかっこいいんだと

They say that CDs are cool as a medium.

その瞬間には勘違いをしてしまったわけなんですよ

At that moment, I mistakenly misunderstood.

もちろんしばらくして

Of course, after a while.

たまたま聴いたこの曲

This song that I happened to hear.

たまたま聴いたこのCDの内容が

The content of this CD that I happened to listen to.

自分にすごく

Very much to myself.

マッチしたんだなっていうのは

I feel like we matched.

後で理解するんですけれども

You will understand later, but...

そんな体験をしてる僕だから

Because I have had such experiences.

大人になってレコードを聴いたりして

Listening to records as an adult.

あとは

The rest is...

CDよりもっといい音質のね

Better sound quality than a CD.

WAVデータとか

Such as WAV data

パソコンで聴いたりとか

Listening on the computer or something like that.

あとパソコンだとすごく美しい音質のね

Also, the sound quality is really beautiful on the computer.

ちょっとパソコンだとすごく便利に聴けるな

It's really convenient to listen on the computer.

っていうのあったりとかしたりしても

Even if that happens or something like that.

いまだにCDになんか

Still on CDs and such.

憧れがあり続けるんですよね

I still have aspirations.

いやいやレコードの方が音がいいんだよって

No, no, records have better sound quality.

言うかもしれないけれど

I might say it, but...

僕はCDってすげーっていう体験があるから

I have an experience that makes me think CDs are amazing.

これはちょっと譲れないんですよ

This is something I can't compromise on a bit.

ということで中学生の僕がした勘違いというのは

So, the misunderstanding I had as a middle school student was that...

ロックがかっこいい

Rock is cool.

ではなくて

Not that.

CDというものがかっこいい

CDs are cool.

という勘違いをした

I made that misunderstanding.

というのが僕の音楽の原始体験です

That is my primal experience of music.

はじめってみんなそんなもんだよね

At first, everyone is like that, right?

恥ずかしくて語らない人

A person who is too embarrassed to speak.

語られない人が多いかもしれないけれど

There may be many people who do not talk about it.

みんなのはじめは

Everyone's beginning is
