발견된 이는 2005년 6월 9일 실종된 30세의 이혜령 씨였습니다.

그 전해에 결혼한 세대기였던 이 씨는

일단 중요한 건 사인을 파악하는 일 같은데요.

사망 추정일인 6월 9일 이 씨는 여느 때와 같이 출근하는 남편을 배웅한 다음

집 정리를 간단하게 마치고 오전 9시 무렵 외출했다고 합니다.

그리고 오전 11시경 한복점에서 볼일을 마친 다음

곧이어 11시 30분쯤 식당에서 도시락을 포장 구매하였는데요.

Shortly after, around 11:30, I purchased a packed lunch at the restaurant.

도시락을 들고 찾은 곳은 대학 시절 따르던 A 교수의 연구실이었습니다.

The place I found while carrying a packed lunch was the research lab of Professor A, whom I followed during my college years.

A 교수와 함께 도시락을 먹고 헤어진 이 씨는

Mr. Lee, who had lunch with Professor A, said goodbye.

자원봉사를 함께했던 후배와 통화를 마친 뒤

After finishing the call with my junior who volunteered together.

교내 은행에 들렀고 은행 CCTV에 의하면

I stopped by the campus bank, and according to the bank's CCTV...

오후 2시 23분 은행을 나와 지하철역 방향으로 걸어갔고

I left the bank at 2:23 PM and walked towards the subway station.

이 모습이 이 씨의 생전 마지막 모습이었습니다.

This was the last appearance of Mr. Lee during his lifetime.

여기까지는 이상할 게 없네요.

There's nothing strange about it up to this point.

그런데 이 씨는 집으로 가지 않고 엉뚱한 곳에서 시신으로 발견되었다는 점인데요.

However, the fact is that this person was found dead in a strange place instead of going home.

이 씨가 발견된 미입주 아파트는 이 씨가 졸업한 학교와 멀지 않은 위치에 있었지만

The unoccupied apartment where Mr. Lee was found was located not far from the school he graduated from, but...

그곳은 안전한 곳이었습니다.

It was a safe place.

아무 연구가 없던 곳이었고

It was a place with no research at all.

이 씨의 집은 강남에 있었는데 집으로 가는 방향도 아닌데다가

이 씨는 결혼 전에 학교 근처에서 자취를 한 경험이 있어서

미입주 아파트 근처 공인중개사 사무실 번호가 발견되기는 하였는데

당시 이 씨나 가족 누구도 새로운 집을 구하고 있지 않아

At that time, neither Ms. Lee nor any of her family was looking for a new house.

미분양 아파트를 찾을 이유가 전혀 없었습니다.

이 미제사건의 문제는 이 씨가 학교에서 나온 후 행적이 전혀 파악되지 않았다는 점인데요.

The problem with this unsolved case is that there is no record of Mr. Lee's whereabouts after he left school.

그리고 함께 술을 마신 상대방도 누군지 드러나지 않았다는 점입니다.

당시 해당 아파트는

경찰은 원안에 의한 살인이나 청부 살인의 가능성도 열어놓고 수사를 벌였지만

경찰이 이 씨의 몸에서 범인의 DNA가 나왔다고 하자

그런데 그러면서 A 교수는 이 씨에게 타살 정황이 있는데도 자살한 것처럼 몰아가기 위해서

자신의 컴퓨터에 이 씨가 쓴 유서가 있다고 밝히면서

암호가 걸려 있었는데 내가 도움을 받아 풀었다 하면서 그 유서를 경찰에 제출했습니다.

I had a password locked, but I received help to unlock it and submitted that will to the police.

그러면서 유서의 내용은 시부모와의 불화 때문에 결혼 생활이 힘들었다는 것과

The content of the letter states that the married life was difficult due to conflicts with the in-laws.

자신의 장례식에 시부모님은 안 오셨으면 좋겠다라는 것이 내용이었다고 밝혔습니다.

It was revealed that the content was about wishing that the in-laws would not attend their own funeral.

그러나 그건 생전에 이 씨가 그 누구에게도 내색하거나 털어놓은 적 없던 얘기였고

However, that was a story that this person had never revealed or confided to anyone during their lifetime.

경찰 조사 결과 중에서도 마찬가지로 이 씨의 결혼 생활에 특별한 불화는 없었던 것으로 밝혀졌습니다.

The police investigation also revealed that there were no significant conflicts in Mr. Lee's marriage.

그러나 A 교수는 평소 이 씨가 자신의 불행한 결혼 생활에 대해 여러 차례 털어놓았다고 계속 가여 주장하였는데

이날 교수는 몇 번 인사만 하였을 뿐인 이 씨의 전 남자친구에게도 전화를 걸어 이 씨의 행적을 찾았다고 합니다.

On that day, the professor reportedly called Lee's ex-boyfriend, whom he had only greeted a few times, to find out Lee's whereabouts.

상식적으로 이해하기 힘든 일이었지만 A 교수에 대해서는

다행인 점은 2015년 7월 형사소송법 개정으로 살인죄의 공소시효는 완전히 폐지되었다는 점입니다.
