55. Finally in Roma.

사도행전 28장

Acts Chapter 28

부서진 배에서 탈출한 바울과 다른 일행들은

Paul and the others who escaped from the broken ship

물에 빠진 생지꼴로 더 이상 걸을 힘도 없어

I don't have the strength to walk anymore, like a wet rag.

엉금엉금 기어 해변으로 올라왔단다.

I crawled up to the beach.

게다가 추위로 몸을 덜덜 떨면서 말이야.

Moreover, I was shivering from the cold.

그 섬에 살고 있던 원주민들이

The indigenous people living on that island

이 낯선 사람들을 보러 순식간에 모여들었단다.

They quickly gathered to see these strangers.

온몸이 물에 젖어서 덜덜 떨고 있는 사람들을 보자

I see people who are shaking and drenched all over.

해변에 있는 나뭇가지들을 모아 커다란 무닥불을 피워주었어.

I gathered branches on the beach to make a large bonfire.

바울과 일행들은 모두 불 주위에 모여 앉았지.

Paul and his companions all gathered around the fire.

얼마쯤 시간이 지나자 몸도 따뜻해지고 옷도 말랐어.

After some time passed, my body warmed up and my clothes dried.

원주민들은 먹을 것과 마실 것도 갖다 주었단다.

The indigenous people brought food and drink.

얼마나 맛이 있는지.

How delicious it is.

그제서야 모두들 좀 살 것 같다고 느꼈단다.

Only then did everyone feel like they could breathe a little.

바울은 일어나 무닥불에 넣을 나뭇가지를 찾고 있었어.

Paul was looking for sticks to put in the fire.

그런데 바울이 집어든 나뭇가지에 아주 위험한 독사가 있었어.

However, there was a very dangerous venomous snake on the branch that Paul picked up.

이런 독사에게 물리면 그 사람은 당장 죽게 된단다.

If bitten by such a viper, that person will die immediately.

바울은 나뭇가지 더미 속에 있는 독사를 찾았다.

Paul found a venomous snake in the pile of branches.

독사를 보지 못했어.

I didn't see the black snake.

그냥 나뭇가지를 불 속에 던져 넣으려고 했단다.

I just tried to throw a branch into the fire.

그 순간 독사가 튀어나왔어.

At that moment, a venomous snake jumped out.

독사는 바울의 팔을 물어버렸지.

The snake bit Paul's arm.

그리고 바울의 팔에 척하고 매달려 있었어.

And it was clinging tightly to Paul's arm.

주위에 있던 사람들은 깜짝 놀랐지.

The people around were surprised.

하지만 바울은 놀라지 않았어.

But Paul was not surprised.

팔을 이리저리 흔들어 독사를 불 속에 던져 넣었단다.

He waved his arms around and threw the viper into the fire.

불에 타도록 말이야.

I mean to burn.

이제 바울은 죽겠군. 당장 죽게 될 거야.

Now Paul is going to die. He's about to die right away.

주위 사람들은 수긍거렸지.

The people around me nodded in agreement.

독사에게 물렸으니 달리 손을 쓸 방법도 없어.

I was bitten by a venomous snake, so there's no way to do anything else.

하지만 바울에게는 아무 일도 일어나지 않았어.

However, nothing happened to Paul.

바울은 아무 일도 없었다는 듯 태연하게 불 옆에 앉아 있었단다.

Paul sat calmly by the fire as if nothing had happened.

바울에게는 이런 믿음이 있었어.

Paul had this kind of faith.

하나님께서는 내가 로마에 가게 될 거라고 말씀하셨어.

God told me that I would go to Rome.

그렇다면 나는 이곳에서 지금 죽지 않을 거야.

Then I won't die here right now.

섬 안으로 조금 들어가면 커다란 집이 하나 있었단다.

If you go a little deeper into the island, there was a big house.

그 집에는 이 섬의 추장인 보블리오가 살고 있었어.

The chief of the island, Boblio, lived in that house.

보블리오는 자기 섬의 사람들에게 말했단다.

Boblion told the people of his island.

부서진 배에서 탈출한 사람들이 당분간 우리 섬에 머물도록 허락하겠습니다.

We will allow the people who escaped from the broken ship to stay on our island for the time being.

저렇게 해변에 머물 수는 없는 노릇이니까요.

We can't just stay on the beach like that.

정말 친절한 추장이야. 그렇지?

He's really a kind chief, isn't he?

보블리오 추장의 집에는 추장의 아버지가 같이 살고 있었단다.

In the house of Chief Boblio, the chief's father was also living with him.

그런데 그 아버지는 아주 심한 병에 걸려 있었어.

However, the father was suffering from a very serious illness.

그 이야기를 들은 바울은 당장 추장의 집으로 달려갔단다.

Upon hearing that story, Paul rushed to the chief's house immediately.

그리고 추장의 병든 아버지가 누워있는 침대 옆에 무릎을 꿇고 앉아 하나님께 기도를 드렸지.

And he kneeled beside the bed where the chieftain's ailing father lay and prayed to God.

하나님!

God!

병에 걸려 아파하는 이 사람을 고쳐주십시오.

Please heal this person who is suffering from an illness.

하나님은 정말로 하나님의 종 바울이 부탁하는 것을 들어주셨어.

God truly listened to what His servant Paul asked for.

다음 날 아침, 보블리오 추장의 아버지는 병이 다 나아 바깥을 걸어 다니게 되었단다.

The next morning, Chief Boblio's father was completely healed and started walking outside.

섬에 사는 다른 사람들은 바울의 한 일을 듣고 바울에게 아픈 사람들을 다 데리고 왔단다.

The other people living on the island heard about what Paul had done and brought all their sick people to him.

바울은 그 사람들의 병을 모두 고쳐주었지.

Paul healed all the sick people.

원주민들은 이제 바울이 대단한 능력을 가졌다고 생각하게 되었어.

The indigenous people have now come to think that Paul has great power.

바울은 아픈 사람도 고쳐줄 수 있고 독사에게 물려도 죽지 않아.

Paul can heal the sick and won't die if bitten by a snake.

바울은 신이야!

Paul is a god!

아닙니다.

No, it is not.

바울이 말했단다.

Paul said so.

나는 신이 아니고 그저 평범한 사람일 뿐입니다.

I am not a god; I am just an ordinary person.

단지 나는 하늘에 계신 하나님의 종입니다.

I am simply a servant of God in heaven.

나의 하나님은...

My God is...

나의 하나님은 온 세상 모든 사람의 주인이십니다.

My God is the Lord of all people in the whole world.

나의 하나님께서 이 섬에 있는 병든 사람들을 고쳐주라고 내게 말씀하셨습니다.

My God has told me to heal the sick people on this island.

바울을 비롯해 윌리오 장군과 배에 탔던 다른 사람들은 겨울 내내 그 섬에 머물러야 했단다.

Including Paul, General Julius and the others who were on the ship had to stay on that island all winter.

겨울 동안에는 그곳을 지나가는 배가 없었거든.

There were no boats passing through there during the winter.

그 섬에 그렇게 오래 머무는 것도 나름대로 좋았단다.

Staying on that island for such a long time was nice in its own way.

바울은 3개월 동안 섬 원주민들에게 예수님이 어떤 분인지 이야기해 줄 수 있었거든.

Paul was able to tell the islanders about who Jesus is for three months.

마침내 봄이 되자 이탈리아로 가는 배를 구할 수 있었지.

Finally, when spring came, I was able to find a ship to Italy.

윌리오 장군은 바울과 다른 죄수들과 함께 배에 올랐단다.

General Julius went on board the ship with Paul and other prisoners.

이제 로마로 가는 여행을 계속하게 된 거야.

Now I'm going to continue my journey to Rome.

배를 타고 얼마쯤 항해를 해 이탈리아의 어떤 항구에 이르게 되었지.

After sailing for a while on a boat, we arrived at some port in Italy.

이탈리아에 도착한 바울은...

When Paul arrived in Italy...

이탈리아에 도착한 거야.

I have arrived in Italy.

이제부터 로마까지는 걸어가야 했단다.

From now on, we had to walk to Rome.

로마는 크고 멋진 도시였지.

Rome was a big and magnificent city.

이곳 로마에는 아주 멋진 궁전에 로마 황제가 살고 있어.

The Roman emperor lives in a very magnificent palace here in Rome.

로마 시내에는 사람들이 또 얼마나 많은지.

How many people there are in downtown Rome.

로마에도 그리스도인들이 살고 있었단다.

There were Christians living in Rome as well.

이들은 바울이 로마로 오고 있다는 말을 벌써 들었어.

They have already heard that Paul is coming to Rome.

이 사람들은 바울을 확인했지.

These people confirmed Paul.

바울은 예전에는 로마에 오기를 환영하고 싶었어.

Paul used to want to come to Rome.

그래서 아주 먼 길을 걸어서 바울을 마중 나갔단다.

So I walked a very long way to meet Paul.

바울을 조금이라도 빨리 보고 싶었거든.

I wanted to see Paul as soon as possible.

바울과 로마 그리스도인들이 서로 만났을 때 얼마나 기뻐했는지 모른단다.

I cannot express how joyful Paul and the Roman Christians were when they met each other.

바울도 이곳 로마에 오기를 얼마나 고대했는지.

How eagerly Paul longed to come to this place, Rome.

바울과 그리스도인들은 함께 로마로 걸어갔지.

Paul and the Christians walked to Rome together.

바울은 여전히 로마에 오기를 원했다.

Paul still wanted to come to Rome.

바울이 윌리어 장군의 죄수였단다.

Paul was General Williar's prisoner.

하지만 윌리어 장군은 바울이 위험한 사람이 아니라는 것을 누구보다 잘 알고 있었어.

But General Willier knew better than anyone that Paul was not a dangerous person.

바울을 감옥에 가둘 필요가 없다는 것도 알고 있었지.

I also knew that there was no need to imprison Paul.

그래서 바울을 보통 집에서 살게 해주었단다.

So, they allowed Paul to live in a regular house.

단 군인 한 사람을 시켜 바울을 항상 지키도록 했지.

So they assigned a soldier to guard Paul at all times.

바울은 다른 곳으로 갈 수는 없었어.

Paul couldn't go anywhere else.

왜냐하면 언제든 로마 황제를 만나러 갈 준비를 하고 있어야 했거든.

Because you always had to be ready to meet the Roman Emperor.

로마 황제가 바울을 풀어줄 때를 말해줄 테니까.

I will tell you when the Roman emperor will release Paul.

바울은 그 집에서 몰래 도망치고 싶다는 생각을 한 적이 없었단다.

Paul never had the thought of secretly escaping from that house.

오히려 언제쯤 황제를 만날 수 있을까 하고 황제를 만나게 되기를 고대하고 있었지.

Rather, I was looking forward to when I might meet the emperor.

그 위대한 황제를 만나 예수님이 어떤 분이신지 전하고 싶었거든.

I wanted to meet that great emperor and tell him who Jesus is.

바울이 실제로 황제를 만나 예수님을 전했는지는 아무도 모른단다.

No one knows for sure whether Paul actually met the emperor and preached about Jesus.

그 이야기는 성경에 쓰여 있지 않거든.

That story is not written in the Bible.

하지만 성경에는 바울이 2년 동안 로마에 머물렀다고 나와.

But the Bible says that Paul stayed in Rome for two years.

그동안 매일매일 사람들이 바울을 찾아왔지.

During that time, people visited Paul every day.

바울을 지키는 군인도 괜찮다고 허락해 주었어.

The soldier guarding Paul was also allowed to be fine.

바울은 죄수처럼 한 곳에 갇혀 있었지만,

Paul was locked up in one place like a prisoner, but,

매일매일 예수님에게 전하고 있었지.

I was telling Jesus every single day.

The Book of Revelation

이제 성경 가장 마지막에 나오는 이야기를 할 차례야.

Now it's time to talk about the story that comes at the very end of the Bible.

이 이야기는 예수님의 제자 중 한명이

This story is about one of Jesus' disciples.

요한에 대한 이야기란다.

It's a story about John.

사람들은 예수님의 제자들을 사도라고 불렀어.

People called the disciples of Jesus apostles.

그러니까 이 이야기는 사도 요한에 대한 이야기야.

So this story is about the Apostle John.

로마 황제가 이스라엘과 그 주위 많은 나라들을 다스리고 있다는 것을 기억하니?

Do you remember that the Roman Emperor is ruling over Israel and many surrounding nations?

처음에 로마 황제는 자기 나라에 사는 사람들이

At first, the Roman Emperor believed that the people living in his country

예수님을 사랑하고 믿고 따르게 되어도 신경을 쓰지 않았어.

Even though I love, believe in, and follow Jesus, I didn't pay much attention.

그리스도인들을 괴롭히지 않고 그냥 내게 됐어.

I just became someone who doesn't bother Christians.

그리스도인들을 내버려 두었지.

I left the Christians alone.

하지만 앞으로 이야기할 일이 일어날 즈음에

But by the time the things I'll talk about happen

로마 황제는 그리스도인들을 싫어했단다.

The Roman emperor hated Christians.

이 황제는 예수님에 대해 조금 더 알고 싶어하지 않았어.

This emperor did not want to know more about Jesus.

예수님에 대한 이야기를 하는 사람들은 모두 감옥에 가두거나 벌을 주었단다.

Everyone who spoke about Jesus was imprisoned or punished.

많은 그리스도인들이 죽음을 당하기도 했지.

Many Christians have also faced death.

그런데 요한은 황제의 명령 따위에는 전혀 신경을 쓰지 않았다.

However, John did not care at all about the emperor's orders.

그래서 자기가 가는 곳은 어디든지 예수님이 하나님의 아들이라는 것과

So wherever he goes, he proclaims that Jesus is the Son of God.

모든 사람을 사랑하신다는 말을 전했지.

I told them that He loves everyone.

예수님에 대한 이야기를 계속하다가는 위험한 일이 생길지도 모르는데 말이야.

If we keep talking about Jesus, something dangerous might happen.

결국 요한은 잡혀 감옥에 갇히게 되었단다.

In the end, John was captured and imprisoned.

요한은 죽임을 당하지는 않았지만 대신 아주 다른 종류의 벌을 받게 되었지.

John was not killed, but instead, he received a very different kind of punishment.

그래서 요한은 황제의 명령 따위에 들어갔다.

So John followed the emperor's orders.

그래서 요한은 황제의 명령 따위에는 전혀 신경을 쓰지 않았다.

So John didn't pay any attention to the emperor's orders.

그런데 요한은 황제의 명령 따위에는 전혀 신경을 쓰지 않았다.

However, John did not pay any attention to the emperor's orders at all.

그래서 요한은 황제의 명령 따위에는 전혀 신경을 쓰지 않았다.

So John didn't care at all about the emperor's commands.

요한을 배에 태우더니 바다 한가운데에 있는 작은 섬으로 데리고 갔단다.

They took John onto the boat and brought him to a small island in the middle of the sea.

그 섬은 반모섬이라는 곳이었단다.

That island was called Banmo Island.

섬에 도착한 군인들은 요한을 해변에 내려놓았지.

The soldiers who arrived on the island placed Johan on the beach.

그리고 배를 타고 자기들만 떠나버렸어.

And they left on the boat without anyone else.

요한만 혼자 반모섬에 내려놓은 채 말이야.

Only Johann was dropped off alone on Banmo Island.

섬에 혼자 남게 된 요한은 이제 예수님에 대해 전할 사람이 주위에

Johann, who was left alone on the island, now has no one around to share about Jesus.

한 명도 없는 거야.

There's not a single one.

요한에게는 말할 수 없이 큰 슬픔이었지.

It was an indescribably great sorrow for John.

이제 요한이 할 수 있는 일이 아무것도 없는 걸까?

Is there really nothing left for Johan to do now?

아니야.

No.

예수님은 요한이 할 수 있는 다른 일을 많이 준비해 두셨단다.

Jesus has prepared many other tasks that John can do.

어느 주일 아침이었지.

It was a Sunday morning.

요한이 해변에 쓸쓸하게 앉아있는데 아주 놀라운 일이 일어났단다.

As John sat alone on the beach, something amazing happened.

요한이 아주 신비한 것을 보게 되었어.

John saw something very mysterious.

마치 요한이 꿈을 꾸는 것 같았지.

It felt like Johan was dreaming.

하지만 그것은 꿈이 아니었어.

But it was not a dream.

요한은 맑은 정신으로 분명히 깨어있었거든.

John was clearly awake with a clear mind.

우리는 그런 일을 환상이라고 부른단다.

We call such things illusions.

요한이 본 것은 환상이었어.

What John saw was a vision.

그 환상 속에서 요한은 아주 신비로운 것들을 보게 되었어.

In that vision, John saw very mysterious things.

맨 먼저 예수님이 요한에게 가까이 다가오셨지.

First, Jesus came close to John.

요한은 요한에게 가까이 다가오셨지.

John came closer to John.

요한은 소스라치게 놀랐단다.

John was startled.

예수님은 그 전과는 전혀 다른 모습을 하고 계셨어.

Jesus looked completely different from before.

무엇과도 비교할 수 없이 아주 거룩하게 보였단다.

It looked so holy that it could not be compared to anything.

그리고 예수님께로부터 눈부시게 밝은 빛이 비쳐나오고 있었어.

And a brilliant light was shining out from Jesus.

요한은 너무 놀라 바닥에 납작 엎드리고 말았지.

John was so surprised that he lay flat on the ground.

감히 고개를 들고 쳐다볼 수가 없었어.

I couldn't dare to lift my head and look.

그 순간 예수님은 요한을 만났다.

At that moment, Jesus met John.

예수님이 손을 내밀어 요한의 어깨를 잡아주시면서 다정하게 말씀하셨어.

Jesus reached out His hand and gently spoke as He held John's shoulder.

요한아, 놀라지 말아라.

John, don't be surprised.

바로 나다.

It's me right now.

내가 할 중요한 일을 알려주겠다.

I will tell you about an important task I need to do.

앞으로 일어날 일들을 너에게 보여줄 것이다.

I will show you what will happen in the future.

너는 그것을 종이에 적도록 해라.

You should write it down on paper.

내가 환상에서 본 모든 것을 모든 사람들이 읽을 수 있도록 꼼꼼히 적도록 해라.

Make sure to write down everything I saw in my vision carefully so that everyone can read it.

이제 모든 사람들은 앞으로 일어날 일에 대해 알게 될 것이다.

Now everyone will know about what will happen in the future.

요한은 예수님의 말씀에 순종했단다.

John obeyed the words of Jesus.

자기가 본 모든 것을 책에 찬찬히 적어 나갔지.

He carefully wrote down everything he saw in the book.

이 책이 바로 성경의 마지막 이야기가 되었어.

This book has become the last story of the Bible.

우리는 하나님께서 이 이야기를 요한에게 보여주셨다는 뜻으로 요한 게시록이라고 부른단다.

We call it the Book of Revelation because it means that God showed this story to John.

게시는

The display is.

게시는 사람이 알 수 없는 것을 하나님께서 가르쳐 알게 해주셨다는 뜻이야.

It means that God has revealed something to a person that they could not know on their own.

환상 속에서 요한이 본 것은 무엇이었을까?

What did John see in the vision?

요한은 하늘나라를 보았단다.

John saw the kingdom of heaven.

저 높은 곳에 있는 하늘나라를 보았어.

I saw the heavenly place up high.

하늘나라는 정말 아름다운 곳이었지.

The heavenly kingdom was truly a beautiful place.

하늘나라에서 요한은 하나님께서 앉아계시는 멋진 의자를 보았단다.

In heaven, John saw the magnificent throne where God is seated.

그 의자를 보았단다.

I saw that chair.

그 의자 옆에 사람들이 쭉 둘러서 있는 것도 보았어.

I saw people lined up next to that chair.

그 사람들은 세상에 살 때 하나님을 사랑했던 사람들이었지.

Those people were ones who loved God while living in the world.

그런 사람들이 모두 하늘나라에 모여있었어.

Those people were all gathered in the heavenly realm.

예전에 예수님이 제자들과 함께 계실 때 제자들에게 약속하신 것이 있었단다.

Once, when Jesus was with his disciples, He made a promise to them.

예수님은 하늘나라에서 제자들을 위해 모든 것을 준비해놓겠다고 약속하셨지.

Jesus promised that He would prepare everything for His disciples in the kingdom of heaven.

예수님은 그때 이런 말씀도 하셨단다.

Jesus also said something like this at that time.

모든 준비가 끝나면 내가 너희들을 데리러 오겠다.

Once everything is ready, I will come to pick you up.

너희들은 나중에 모두 하늘나라에 오게 될 것이다.

You will all come to heaven later.

그때 너희들은 나와 항상 함께 있게 될 것이다.

At that time, you will always be with me.

나를 사랑하는 모든 사람들도 나와 함께 하늘나라에 있게 될 것이다.

All the people who love me will also be in heaven with me.

우리가 예수님과 함께 있게 된다면,

If we are with Jesus,

얼마나 멋지고 좋은 일이니?

How wonderful and great is it?

그때 비로소 우리는 예수님을 직접 보게 되는 거지.

Only then will we see Jesus directly.

그때가 되면 우리는 더 이상 두 손을 모으고 눈을 감은 채 예수님에게 기도할 필요가 없어지겠지.

When that time comes, we will no longer need to gather our hands and close our eyes to pray to Jesus.

물론 그럴 필요가 없고 말고.

Of course, there is no need for that.

그때는 예수님에게 직접 이야기할 수 있으니까 말이야.

At that time, I will be able to talk directly to Jesus.

또 예수님이 십자가에서 우리의 모든 죄를 없애주신 것을,

And also that Jesus removed all our sins on the cross,

감사드릴 수도 있겠지.

I guess I could be grateful.

게다가 우리가 예수님을 얼마나 많이 사랑하는지 말할 수도 있을 거야.

Furthermore, we could also talk about how much we love Jesus.

우리는 그곳에서 목소리를 합하여 예수님을 위해 멋진 찬양을 부르게 될 거야.

We will raise our voices together there and sing wonderful praises for Jesus.

우리는 더 이상 슬프거나 아프거나 불행하다고 느끼지 않을 거야.

We will no longer feel sad, hurt, or unhappy.

하늘나라는 이 세상에서 가장 멋진 곳이거든.

Heavenly Country is the most wonderful place in this world.

요한은 환상 속에서 더 멋진 곳이거든.

John is in a more wonderful place in the vision.

요한은 많은 곳을 보았단다.

John has seen many places.

예수님이 어떻게 왕이 되시는지 보았어.

I saw how Jesus becomes a king.

어떻게 하늘의 왕이 되시고 땅의 왕이 되시는지를 보았지.

I have seen how you become the king of heaven and the king of earth.

예수님은 온 세상의 왕이 되실 거야.

Jesus will become the king of the whole world.

모든 사람들은 예수님 앞에 무릎 꿇고 경배하겠지.

Everyone will kneel and worship before Jesus.

요한은 사탄이 벌을 받는 것도 보았단다.

John also saw Satan being punished.

사탄은 하나님을 질투해서 그분에게 불순종하고,

Satan is jealous of God and disobeys Him,

나쁜 일을 서슴없이 하는 나쁜 천사야.

You are a bad angel who does bad things without hesitation.

사탄은 모든 사람을 불행하게 만들고 싶어하지.

Satan doesn't want everyone to be happy.

오래전 아당과 하와가 에덴동산에 살 때부터 두 사람을 벌써 불행하게 만들었어.

Since a long time ago, when Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden, they were already made unhappy.

그 후에도 사탄은 할 수만 있으면 사람들을 불행하게 만들려고 애쓴단다.

After that, Satan tries to make people unhappy as much as he can.

하지만 이제 모든 것이 끝나버렸어.

But now everything is over.

사탄은 벌을 받아 앞으로는 절대로 죽지 않겠다.

Satan will be punished and will never die again from now on.

사람들을 괴롭힐 수 없게 되었어. 절대로.

I can no longer torment people. Absolutely not.

요한은 환상 속에서 더 많은 것들을 보았단다.

John saw more things in the vision.

하지만 어떤 것들은 이해하기가 정말 어려운 것들도 있지.

But there are some things that are really difficult to understand.

요한의 책 가장 마지막에 이런 말이 나온단다.

It is said that such words appear at the very end of John's book.

주 예수님, 어서 오십시오.

Lord Jesus, come quickly.

우리도 매일 이렇게 기도해 볼까?

Shall we try to pray like this every day?

어쩌면 이 기회에,
