또 여러분들 어쩌면 자라면서 이런 얘기를 듣고 자란 분들이 계시고

야, 네가 형이니까 동생한테 져줘

Hey, since you're the older brother, let the younger sibling win.

지는 게 이기는 거야

Losing is winning.

그런 얘기 들으면서 자라신 분들이 적지 않겠습니까?

Isn't it likely that there are many people who grew up hearing such stories?

우리 흔히 쓰는 말입니다

It's a phrase we often use.

사실 저는 지는 것을 참 싫어합니다

In fact, I really hate losing.

나는 사람으로 자라났습니다

I grew up as a person.

저는 공부도 경쟁심 때문에 공부를 했고

I studied out of a sense of competition.

다른 모든 거 조금 잘하는 거 있다면

If there's something I'm a little good at, it's everything else.

그건 다 제가 남에게 지기 싫어서 하게 된 것입니다

That's all because I don't want to lose to others.

그런데 하나님께서 조금씩 조금씩 저를 다듬어 주셔서

However, God is refining me little by little.

이제는 그래도 여러 면에 질 줄도 알고

Now I know that it's okay to lose in various aspects.

또 양보하면서 기뻐할 줄도 알고 이렇게 됐는데

I know how to be happy while also conceding, and it has turned out this way.

지난 주간에 우리 교육자 수련회 가서

Last week, we went to our educators' training retreat.

프리타임에 운동 경기 시합을 편을 나눠서 했는데

During free time, we divided into teams and had a sports match.

역시 거기서는 아직도 지는 것을 못 참더라고요

As expected, they still can't stand losing there.

좀 이렇게 져주면 좋은데 운동할 때는 져줄 줄 몰라가지고

It would be nice if you could concede a little, but when it comes to exercise, you don't know how to let go.

만일에 우리 팀이 계속 지게 되면 우리가 이길 때까지 하자

If our team keeps losing, let's keep going until we win.

오늘 주님께서 38절과 43절에 보면 이런 말씀을 하세요

Today, the Lord speaks these words in verses 38 and 43.

또 눈은 눈으로 이는 이로 갚으라 하였다는 것을 너희가 들었으나

"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, tooth for tooth.'"

이렇게 말씀하시고

Speaking like this,

또 43절에 보면 또 내 이웃을 사랑하고

"In addition, in verse 43, it says to love your neighbor."

내 원수를 미워하라 하였다는 것을 너희가 들었으나

You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy."

이렇게 얘기합니다

They say it like this.

눈을 눈으로 갚고 이는 이로 갚는다

A tooth for a tooth and an eye for an eye.

이것도 이웃은 사랑하고 원수는 미워한다

"Love your neighbor and hate your enemy."

당연한 이치죠

It's a matter of course.

그래서 율법에서 이미 많이 배웠던 유대인들에게는

So to the Jews who had already learned a lot from the law,

꼭 율법으로 배우지 않았어도

Even if you haven't learned through the law.

우리의 삶에 너무나도 당연한 이치고

It's a truth that is so natural in our lives.

우리의 삶에 인간관계에 있어서

In our lives, in terms of human relationships.

누구나 아무 부담 없이 또는 당연하게 받아들인 것이 바로 이겁니다

What anyone can accept without any burden or as a matter of course is precisely this.

받은 대로 돌려준다는 거예요

It means to return what you've received as it is.

받은 대로

As received.

예수님께서도 이것을 너희가 들었으나

Jesus said, "You have heard this."

이렇게 말씀하시는 것은 무슨 뜻일까요?

What does it mean when you say this?

너희가 익히 잘 알고 있고

You all know it very well.

너희가 마땅한 것으로 여기고 있는 것이 이것들이다

What you regard as proper are these things.

그런데 예수님의 가르침은 그거 가지고는 안 된다는 거예요

However, the teaching of Jesus says that it’s not enough with just that.

그래서 들었으나 나는 너희에게

So I heard, but I say to you.

이뤄놓으니 하면서 몇 가지 얘기를 합니다

As it comes together, I share a few thoughts.

그런데 이 얘기들은 사실 우리가 그냥 얘기 속담에서 얘기하듯이

However, these stories are actually things we talk about as if we were discussing proverbs.

지는 것이 이기는 것이다 정도로 받아들이기에는

It is difficult to accept that losing is the same as winning.

그 수준이 참 높습니다

The level is really high.

하나씩 한번 볼까요?

Shall we take a look at them one by one?

오른편 뺨을 치거든 왼편도 돌려대라

If you are slapped on the right cheek, turn the left one as well.

그것은 그냥 우리가 단순히 어떻게 보면

It's just that we simply see it in a certain way.

한쪽 뺨을 때리면은

If you slap one cheek,

싸우지 말고 그냥 또 한쪽 뺨을 내밀라

Don't fight, just offer the other cheek.

이렇게 들릴 수 있는데

It can be heard like this.

사실은 그것보다는 더 깊은 뜻이 담겨져 있습니다

In fact, there is a deeper meaning behind it.

보통 사람들이 오른손 제비잖아요

Usually, people are right-handed.

그러니까 상대방을 앞에 마주 보면서

So facing the other person directly...

오른편 뺨을 때리려면

If you want to slap the right cheek.

오른손으로 그 사람의 오른편 뺨을 어떻게 때릴 수 있어요?

How can you hit that person's right cheek with your right hand?

손바닥으로 때릴 수는 없죠

You can't hit with the palm of your hand.

손바닥으로 때리려면 이렇게 해가지고 때려야 할 텐데

If you're going to hit with your palm, you should do it like this.

이 말은 무슨 의미냐면

What this means is

오른편 뺨을 때리면

If you slap the right cheek.

오른손 제비가 해서 손등으로 때리는 거예요

It's when the right hand flicks and hits with the back of the hand.

그렇죠?

That's right, isn't it?

그 사람의 왼쪽 뺨은 손바닥으로 때릴 수 있지만

You can slap that person's left cheek with your palm, but...

그 사람의 오른편 뺨은 손등으로 때리게 되는데

The right cheek of that person is struck with the back of the hand.

유대인들의 라삐들의 티칭에 보면은

In the teachings of the Jewish rabbis, it says that

손등으로 사람을 때리는 것은

Hitting someone with the back of your hand is

뺨을 때리는 것은

Hitting the cheek is

그 사람에게 두 배의 모욕을 주는 거예요

You're giving that person double the humiliation.

그렇잖아요

That's right.

더 모욕적인 거예요

It's more insulting.

더 모욕적인

그러니까 여기서 말씀하시는 것은 뭐냐면

What you are saying here is...

피지컬한 것만을 얘기하는 것이 아니고요

I'm not just talking about physical things.

우리가 모욕을 당할 때에

When we are insulted.

인서트를 당할 때에

When being inserted

즉각적으로 올려오는 것은

What comes up immediately is

네가 나를 모욕해?

Are you insulting me?

내가 가만히 있을 수 없지

I can't just stand still.

대답을 할 때에

When answering

대적하고 대응하는 것이 마땅한데

It is only right to confront and respond.

예수님은 그것을 대적하지 말고

Do not oppose it, Jesus.

오히려 왼편도 돌려대라

Rather, turn to the left side as well.

이렇게 말씀하십니다

They say it like this.

모욕이라고 하는 것은

What is called an insult is

우리의 자존심과 상당한 관계가 있어서

It has a significant relationship with our pride.

참기가 어렵습니다

It's hard to endure.

그런데 예수님이 모욕을 당하시면서

However, Jesus was being insulted.

그것을 극복해 가셨어요

You have overcome it.

예수님이 어떻게 모욕을 당하셨나

How Jesus was insulted.

예수님이 오셔서

Jesus has come.

소외된 자들과 함께 자리를 같이 하시고

Sit together with the marginalized.

세리들이 예수님을 영접하고

The sinners welcomed Jesus.

기뻐서 잔치를 벌일 때에 가서

When you go to hold a feast in joy.

그들과 함께 먹고 마시고 하셨습니다

You ate and drank with them.

그랬더니 예수님에 대해서

Then, about Jesus...

어떤 소문을 퍼뜨렸나 하면

What rumor did you spread?

이 나사렛 예수는

This Nazarene Jesus

먹기를 탐하고 포도주를 즐겨 마시는 자여

O you who crave food and delight in drinking wine.

세리와 죄인들의 친구들에게

To Seri and the friends of sinners

예수님을 모욕하고

Insulting Jesus.

다 같은 물이다

It's all the same water.

그렇게 모욕을 한 거예요

That's how you insulted me.

그런데 예수님께서 그런 소문

However, Jesus heard such rumors.

그런 모욕적인 얘기를 들으면서

Hearing such insulting words...

대응하지 않으셨습니다

You did not respond.

오늘 우리들에게 말씀하시는 것이

What is speaking to us today

너희가 오른손으로 오른 뼈 뺨을 맞는

You hit your right cheek with your right hand.

이 모욕적인 일을 당해도

Even after experiencing this humiliating event.

그것을 대적하지 마라

Don't oppose it.

어떤 모욕적인 소문이 퍼졌나 하면

What kind of insulting rumors have spread?

이 도대체 그리스도를 따르는 사람들은

What on earth are those who follow Christ?

식인종과 같은 사람들이다

They are people like cannibals.

부끄러워할 줄 모르는 사람들이다

They are people who don't know how to be embarrassed.

이런 소문이 퍼졌어요

This rumor has spread.

왜냐하면 모여서 성찬식을 하는 것이

Because gathering together for the communion service is

떡과 잔이

Rice cake and cup.

몸과 뼈가

Body and bones.

피를 먹고 마신다고 하는 것을

It is said that they drink and consume blood.

이것을 트위스트 해가지고

Twist this.

식인종과 같다

It is like a cannibal.

이런 모욕을 했어요

I have been insulted like this.

조금 더 그런 짓을 하면서

While doing a bit more of that kind of thing

부끄러워할 줄도 모르는 사람들이다

They are people who don't even know how to feel embarrassed.

이런 모욕적인 얘기를 들었지만

I heard such insulting words, but

초대교회 교인들이

The members of the early church.

그것을 대응하지 아니하고

Without responding to it.

그저 그것입니다

That's just it.

지는 것이 이기는 것

Losing is winning.

그래서 수영하면서

So while swimming

본래의 목적을 위해서

For the original purpose.

그래서 주님은

So the Lord is

골고다기를 향해 가시고

초대교회의 성도들은

The saints of the early church

예수의 증인된 삶을 살아가십니다

You are living a life as a witness of Jesus.

속옷을 가지고자 하는 자에게

To those who wish to have underwear

겉옷까지도 가지게 하라

Let them have even the outer garments.

그런데 여기에 보면

However, if you look here

너를 고발하여 속옷을 가지고 하는 자에게

To the one who accuses you and uses your underwear.

겉옷까지도 가지게 하라

Even let them have outer garments.

고발이 들어왔을 때에

When the report came in.

힘이 있는 사람들은

Those who have power

그 고발한 것을 맞대응해서 이길 수 있습니다

You can win by countering the accusations.

그런데

However

당시에 가난한 사람들은

At that time, poor people

그것을 맞대응할 차이

The difference to counter it.

그러니까

So, then.

억울함을

injustice

억울하게 당하는 경우가 참 많이 있었어요

There have been many cases where I have been unfairly treated.

특별히 예수님을 따랐던 초대교회의 성도들

The early church members who specifically followed Jesus.

예수님의 제자들은 그렇게 부자들이 아니었어요

The disciples of Jesus were not that wealthy.

소외된 자들

The marginalized.

가난한 자들이 주로 예수님을 따랐는데

The poor mainly followed Jesus.

예수님이 이런 가르침을 줬습니다

Jesus gave this teaching.

자, 여기서는 무엇을 예수님이 강조하고 있냐면

Well, what Jesus is emphasizing here is

속옷이라고 하는 것은

What we call underwear is

보통 일반 사람들도

Usually, ordinary people too.

한 두세 개씩 가지고 있어서

Having one or two or three of them.

갈아입고 냈어요

I changed and went out.

그런데 겉옷은

By the way, what about the outerwear?

대부분의 평범한 가난한 사람들이

Most ordinary poor people

하나씩밖에 가지고 있지 못했어요

I could only have one at a time.

그런데 겉옷은

낮에는 이 외투같이

이런 말씀이 나옵니다

Such words are being spoken.

이것은 겉옷을 얘기합니다

This is about an outer garment.

전당 잡기

Pledge loan.

그런데 주님 말씀은 뭐냐 하면

But what the Lord says is...

너희를 고발하여

To accuse you.

속옷을 가지고자 하는 자는

Whoever wishes to have underwear

그 가지고 있는 유일한 겉옷

The only outerwear he/she has.

그것까지 내어주라

Give that up too.

그러니까 이게 말씀을 그렇게 살펴보면

So if you look at the words like that...

이게 말이 안 되는 거예요

This doesn't make any sense.

그냥 내가 받은 대로 돌려준다고 하는

I just say that I will return it as I received it.

이런 가치관과

Such values and

이런 기준을 가지고 살아가는

Living with such standards.

우리 세상 사람들에게는

To the people of our world

이게

This is

말이 안 되는 거예요

That's nonsense.

그런데 우리가 말이 안 된다고

But we said it doesn't make sense.

할 수 없는 이유가

Reasons why it can't be done.

이게 예수님의 말씀이란 말이에요

This means it's the word of Jesus.

그러니까 사실

So, actually

말이 안 된다고 얘기할 수 없고

I can't say that it doesn't make sense.

왜 그럼 이런 얘기를 하시느냐

Then why do you talk about these things?

또 보면 억지로 오리를 가게 하거든

If you see it again, you're forcing it to go to the duck.

그 사람과 심리를 동행하라

Accompany that person in their psychology.

그래요

Alright.

이것은 그 당시에 배경을 조금 보시면

로마가

Rome

유대 땅을

The land of Judea

식민지로 삼고 있지 않았습니까

그때 로마 제국이

그러니까 그들이 가지고 있는

이렇게 강제 노동을 시키는 일이

적지 않게 있었단 말이에요

힘이 없으니까

Because I have no strength.

그거 당하는 거예요

여러분 생각나세요

예수님께서 갈보리 언덕으로

Jesus went to Golgotha.

십자가를 쥐고 가시다가 쓰러지고 쓰러지니까

그 다음에 구레네 사람 시몬을 끌어다가

Then they compelled a certain Simon of Cyrene to bear His cross.

너 이 십자가 쥐고 좀 올라가

그런 일을 당할 때 얼마나 억울한

How unfair it is when something like that happens.

힘이 없어서 내가

이렇게 강제 노동을 할 수 있다

당할 수밖에 없구나

그런데 예수님은

But Jesus...

그런 일이 있을 때에

When such things happen

억지로 오리를 가게 하는 사람은

A person who forces a duck to go.

오히려 자원에서

Rather in resources

심리를 동행을 해줘라

Please accompany me psychologically.

그리고 너에게

And to you

구하는 자에게 주며

"Give to those who seek."

내게 꾸고자 하는 자에게

To those who want to dream to me

거절하지 말라

우리가 보통 생각할 때에

예수님은

그런 거 따지지 말고

Don't nitpick about that.

필요해서 구하는 자에게

To those who seek it out of necessity.

꾸고자 하는 자에게

거절하지 말라

Don't refuse.

이렇게 말씀을 하세요

그리고 43절에 보면

And in verse 43, it says

내 이웃을 사랑하고

내 원수를 미워하라 했다는 것은

To hate my enemy means

너희가 들었으나

But you have heard.

나는 너에게 이두느니

이런 사람들을 보게 되면

It's a nemesis.

People who become enemies.

분노하면서

While being angry

어떻게 하면

How can I do it?

나도 힘을 키워서

I will also strengthen my power.

복수할 수 있을까

Can I take revenge?

이런 생각을 갖게 되죠

You come to have thoughts like this.

그런데 주님 말씀은

But the Lord's word is

복수하려고 하지 말자

Let's not seek revenge.

대적하려고 하지 말고

Don't try to oppose.

오히려

That enemy.

사랑하고

I love you.

그 너희를 박해하는 자를 위하여

"For those who persecute you."

어떻게 사랑하는 감정이 없으면서

계속 부부로 살겠습니까

그런데 여러분 여기서

예수님이 얘기하는 사랑은

아가패를 얘기합니다

감정에 따르는

Following emotions

에로스적인 사랑이나

신뢰할 수 있는

Reliable

우정에 근거하는

필레오적인 사랑을

Phileo love.

얘기하는 것이 아니고

It's not about talking.

여기는 아가패

This is Agape.

내가 희생을

I sacrifice.

결단하고

Make a decision.

품어주는

embracing

섬겨주는

serving

그 아가패 사랑을 얘기합니다

It talks about that agape love.

그렇기 때문에

That's why.

이 말씀 앞에서

Before this word.

우리가

나는 도저히

I just can't help it.

사랑의 감정이 없습니다

There are no feelings of love.

핑계할 수가 없어요

I can't make excuses.

왜냐하면 감정을

Because emotions

다른 사랑을 얘기하는 것이 아니기 때문에

It's not about talking about another love.

이것은

This is

의지적인

Volitional

결단

Decision

하나님의 말씀이

The word of God.

주님의 말씀이기 때문에

Because it is the Lord's word.

우리가 세상적인 도독

Our worldly morality.

윤리의

Of ethics

기준으로 보게 되면 말이 안되는 건데

It doesn't make sense when you look at it from that perspective.

우리가

그런데 주님께서

But the Lord said

하라고 하셨기 때문에

Because you told me to do it.

내가 말 안된다고 할 수는 없고

I can't say that it's unreasonable.

순종을 해야 되는데

I have to be obedient.

어떻게 그걸 순종할 수 있느냐

How can you obey that?

우선은

First of all

이렇게 하라고 하신

You told me to do it this way.

목적을 우리가 알아야 됩니다

We need to know the purpose.

너희가 그렇게 하면

If you do that

내 배로 갚아줄게

I'll pay you back with my body.

너희가 손해 보면

If you suffer a loss

내가 10배로 채워줄게

I will fill you up tenfold.

너희가 그냥 져주면

If you just give up.

내가 너를 높여줄게

I will lift you up.

억울한 일을 당하면

When you experience an injustice.

내가 그 다음에는

Then, I will...

영향력 있는 사람으로 세워줄 테니까

I will make you into an influential person.

먼저 져줘

First, let me lose.

그냥 손해봐

Just take the loss.

대적하지 말고

Don't confront.

그냥 용서해

Just forgive me.

구워줘

Bake it for me.

그 얘기가 아니에요

That's not what I meant.

우리가 만약에 그렇게 나간다면

If we proceed like that

그게 기복적인

That's variable.

기복주의적인 신앙이에요

It is a faith based on fortune-telling.

주님이 말씀하신 것은

What the Lord has said is

그 정도의 목표가 아니라

It's not that kind of goal.

그것보다 훨씬 더 고차원적인

Much more advanced than that.

목표를 두고 말씀하시는 거예요

You're talking about setting a goal.

성경으로 돌아가면

If you go back to the Bible.

45절에 이렇게 말씀하세요

It says like this in verse 45.

이같이 한즉

하늘에 계신

너희 아버지의 아들이 되리니

You will become your father's son.
