스코틀랜드 IT컨설턴트와의 대화

안녕하세요. 저는 오늘 토마스라는 한 스코틀랜드 분하고 이야기를 나눠봤습니다.

Hello. I talked with a Scottish person named Thomas today.

이분은 하는 일이 굉장히 많으신 분이었는데요.

This person had a lot of things to do.

IT 컨설턴트로도 일을 하시고 책도 여러 번 내셨어요.

You work as an IT consultant and have also published several books.

작가로도 일을 하시고요.

You also work as a writer.

그리고 색소폰을 굉장히 잘 보는 프로페셔널한 뮤지션이다라고

And he is a very professional musician who plays the saxophone very well.

자기를 소개를 하더라고요.

They were introducing themselves.

그래서 여기만 해도 굉장히 많은 직업을 하는 건데

So there are a lot of jobs just here.

근데 또 여기에 이어서 법을 전공을 하셨다고 합니다.

But I've heard that you went on to major in law after this.

그래서 정말 배우는 것도 굉장히 좋아하고

So I really enjoy learning as well.

여러 분야에 흥미가 많으신 분이구나 라는 생각이 들었고요.

I thought you were someone who has a lot of interests in various fields.

지금은 스코틀랜드에 거주를 안 하시고 스페인에서 사신다고 합니다.

They said that they are not currently residing in Scotland and are living in Spain.

모로코 근처에서 사는데

I live near Morocco.

근데 이곳이 화산 근처래요.

But I heard this place is near a volcano.

지금은 휴화산이기는 한데

It is currently a dormant volcano, but…

근데 이게 문제가 1912년에 분출을 했었대요.

But the problem is that it erupted in 1912.

근데 100년에 한 번 분출을 하는 그런 화산이라고 합니다.

However, it is said to be a volcano that erupts once every 100 years.

그래서 지금 거의 한 10년 전도 늦은 건데

So it's almost about 10 years late now.

조금 위험하죠.

It's a little dangerous.

그래서 조금 저라면 그쪽이 안 살 텐데 라는 생각을 했었고

So I thought that if it were me, that person probably wouldn't live.

그리고 IT 쪽으로 일을 하셔가지고

And since you work in IT,

제가 궁금했던 게 요새 다들 코딩을 배워야 하는지 말아야 되는지

What I've been curious about is whether everyone should learn coding these days or not.

조금 궁금해 하잖아요.

I'm a little curious.

그래서 코딩을 모두가 배워야 할 필요가 있냐라고 물어봤는데

So I asked whether there is a need for everyone to learn coding.

단도직입적으로 말하면 그럴 필요는 없다라고 말씀을 하셨습니다.

To put it bluntly, you said that there is no need for that.

코딩 교육을 하는 것 자체가 다른 나라한테

The act of providing coding education itself to other countries...

좀 교육적인 우월성을 자랑하고 싶어서 하는 거래요.

I want to show off a bit of educational superiority.

그러면서 그건 사실 컴퓨터 문맹이 자기 나라한테 없다는 거를

In that sense, it means that the country has no computer illiteracy.

다른 나라한테 자랑을 하고 싶어서이지

I want to brag to other countries.

굳이 코딩 교육을 필수적으로 할 필요는 없다라고 말씀을 하셨습니다.

You said that it is not necessary to make coding education mandatory.

그리고 프로그래밍 언어 관련해서도

And also regarding programming languages.

이게 똑똑한 사람만 할 수 있냐라고 제가 물어봤는데

I asked if only smart people can do this.

근데 이게 문제는요.

But the problem is this.

문제가 쓰는 거는 누구나 다 할 수 있대요.

They say anyone can write problems.

코드를 짜는 것 자체는 누구나 다 할 수 있는데

Anyone can write code itself, but...

그게 오류가 없이 작동시킬 수 있느냐 없느냐

Whether it can operate without any errors or not.

이게 사실 다른 문제다라고 말씀을 하셨어요.

You said this is actually a different matter.

그러니까 똑똑한 사람만이 이게 오류가 없이 작동시킬 수 있는

So only smart people can operate this without errors.

그런 능력이 있다는 거죠.

That means you have that ability.

그래서 사실 좀 프로그래밍 언어마다 좀 차이가 있긴 한데

So, there are actually some differences between programming languages.

그래도 보통 대체로 좀 똑똑한 사람이

Still, usually a somewhat smart person...

이거를 작동시킬 수 있는 그런 능력이 있다는 거죠.

It means that you have the ability to operate this.

그리고 IT 업계하고 은행 업계가 요새 합쳐져서

And lately, the IT industry and the banking industry have been merging.

좀 일자리가 그쪽에 많이 생겼었잖아요.

There have been quite a few jobs created over there, right?

그래서 좀 코딩 업계가 미래가 밝은 것 같다라고 말씀을 했더니

So I said that the coding industry seems to have a bright future.

프로그램이 한 번 만들어지면

Once a program is created

이게 계속 그 프로그램이 쓰여서 자동화가 되기 때문에

Because this program continues to be used, it has become automated.

코딩하는 사람이 많이는 필요하지 않을 것이다

There won't be a need for many people who code.

라고 말씀을 하셔가지고 좀 놀랐습니다.

I was a bit surprised to hear you say that.

그러니까 이게 자동화가 한 번 만들어지면

So once this automation is created,

아무것도 안 사려고 할 거고

I will try not to buy anything.

그리고 아무것도 안 팔릴 것이다.

And nothing will sell.

그러면서 모든 것이 멈출 것이다.

And then everything will come to a halt.

라고 말씀을 하셔서

You said so.

아 그럴 수도 있겠구나 라고 생각을 했습니다.

I thought, "Oh, that could be the case."

또 법도 AI에 의해서 대체될 것 같냐라고 물어봤는데요.

I asked if the law would also be replaced by AI.

근데 요새 자기가 공부를 하는 게

But these days, studying for oneself is...

머신러닝을 이용해서 문서를 분석하는

Analyzing documents using machine learning.

그런 AI를 공부 중이래요.

I hear that they are studying that kind of AI.

근데 아마 자기가 공부한 바에 따르면 그렇게 될 것 같다.

But it seems that it will be like that according to what he/she studied.

라고 말씀을 하셨습니다.

He/She said so.

또 이분한테 굉장히 많은 거를 한다.

This person also does a lot for me.

어떻게 그렇게 많은 거를 하냐.

How do you do so many things?

자기의 배우려는 동력이 무엇이냐.

What is the driving force behind your desire to learn?

라고 제가 물어보는데요.

I'm asking this, you know.

근데 자기는 배우는 거를 굉장히 좋아한대요.

But they say they really enjoy learning.

그리고 사람은 배워야 된다라고 생각을 하시더라고요.

And I think that people should learn.

그러면서 자기의 모든 인생이 사실 배우는 거하고 관련이 되었다.

In doing so, he realized that his entire life was actually related to learning.

라고 말씀을 하시면서

As you said.

앞으로 공부할 거에 대해서 저한테 말씀을 해주셨는데

You mentioned to me about what you will be studying in the future.

AI하고 의학을 접목시킨 것을 공부할 거라고 해요.

They say they will study the integration of AI and medicine.

그러니까 AI로 이제는 사람을 치료할 수 있는 길이 열렸는데

So now there is a way to treat people with AI.

그쪽에 관해서 좀 공부하고 싶다 라고 말씀을 하시면서

"I would like to study a bit about that."

저한테 굉장히 좋은 자극이 되었습니다.

It was a very good motivation for me.

저도 이분처럼 굉장히 다양한 방면에 관심을 가지고

I also have a great interest in various fields like this person.

공부를 해야겠다라는 생각이 들게 했었던

It made me think that I should study.
