개인적으로 저한테 크리스마스는 가장 좋아하는 휴일이면서 매년 항상 기대되는 시기거든요.

Personally, Christmas is my favorite holiday and a time I always look forward to every year.

암튼 그것과 같은 유쾌하고 상큼한 크리스마스 노래들도 귀에 쏙 박히면서 기분이 좋아져요.

Anyway, cheerful and refreshing Christmas songs like that stick in my ears and lift my spirits.

이렇게 크리스마스만 되면 세상이 긍정적인 기운으로 가득 차게 돼서

Whenever Christmas comes around, the world becomes filled with positive energy.

저도 다른 사람들도 조금이라도 행복해지고,

I hope that I and others can become a little bit happier.

이렇게 삶의 좋은 것들을 보게 되는 것 같아서 좋더라고요.

그쵸. 반짝반짝하는 장식 보면 딱 크리스마스 시즌이죠.

I can listen to exciting Christmas music anywhere.

뭐 잠깐 세상에 아무 문제가 없는 척도 할 수 있어요.

그리고 저는 추운 날씨를 더운 날씨보다 더 좋아해서

And I prefer cold weather to hot weather.

크리스마스 시즌은 축복이에요.

The Christmas season is a blessing.

제 이유는 자소한 것 같긴 하지만

추울 때 더 편하다기보다는 레이어드로 갈 수 있어요.

It's not so much more comfortable when it's cold, but you can layer up.

더 멋있어 보여요.

근데 학생이라면 12월은 크리스마스 데이자 취업기간이에요.

But for students, December is both Christmas Day and the job hunting season.

그래서 겨울방학 즐기기 전에 먼저 뭐 힘든 시간을 겪어야 하는 거예요.

So, before enjoying winter break, you have to go through a tough time first.

일하는 직장인들에게도 연말을 스트레스 받는 시간이에요.

For working professionals, the end of the year is also a stressful time.

예를 들어 연말 보고서나 예산보고서 그런 거를 다 준비해야 해서 그래요.

For example, we have to prepare everything like the year-end report or budget report.

대체로 모든 사람이 크리스마스 휴가를 예상하고 더욱더 열심히 노력해요.

Generally, everyone anticipates the Christmas holidays and works even harder.

힘드니까 좀 그런데 정말 보람이 있는 것 같아요.

It's tough, so it's a bit challenging, but I really feel like it's rewarding.

올해 할 일이 다 마치고 나서 드디어 놀러 다닐 수 있죠.

After finishing all my work this year, I can finally go out and have some fun.

가족과 친구들이랑 즐거운 시간을 같이 보낼 수 있어요.

You can spend enjoyable time together with family and friends.

크리스마스 휴가 때 보통 뭐 해요, 아야씨?

What do you usually do during the Christmas holiday, Aya?

음, 저는 크리스마스 때 일정이 항상 꽉 차 있어요.

Well, my schedule is always packed around Christmas.

예전에는 많은 크리스마스 파티에 가곤 해서 그러는데

I used to go to many Christmas parties.

음, 친척과 가족이랑 보낸 크리스마스 파티?

Um, a Christmas party spent with relatives and family?

그리고 친구들이랑, 그리고 여행 사람들이랑.

And with friends, and with travel people.

게다가 이건 파티에 가는 것만 아니라

파티를 앞둔 날들은 준비 과정에도 도와주고 선물 쇼핑도 해야 해서

The days leading up to the party require assistance with preparations and also gift shopping.

그렇게 바쁘죠.

그리고 어렸을 때는 캐롤링도 했어요.

And when I was younger, I also went caroling.

그건 동네 돌아다니면서 크리스마스 캐롤 노래를 부르는 행사죠?

That's an event where people walk around the neighborhood singing Christmas carols, right?

네, 맞아요.

아야씨는 진짜 인싸네?

Aya is really popular, huh?

아니에요. 그건 부모님이 시켜서 했어요.

No, I did it because my parents made me.

근데 최근 몇 년에는 나이가 들어서 그런지

But in recent years, maybe because I'm getting older

파티에 그렇게 자주 가지 않고 그냥 간단하게 보내요.

I don't go to parties that often and just keep it simple.

특히 나이가 들고 크리스마스는 유일하게 쉴 수 있는 기간이 됐거든요.

Especially as I get older, Christmas has become the only time I can truly rest.

학생이었을 때 크리스마스 방학 있으니까

When I was a student, there was a Christmas break.

편안하게 쉬고 놀 수 있는 시간이고

It's a time to relax and have fun.

이제 직장인으로서 휴가를 내고

Now, as a working person, I take a vacation.

크리스마스 보너스나 연말 보너스를 받을 수 있는 그런 시간이죠.

It's that time when you can receive Christmas bonuses or year-end bonuses.

근데 지난 몇 년간에는

바빠서 1년 내내 한 번이라도 못 만난 친구들과 노는 게

It's playing with friends I haven't been able to meet even once all year because I'm busy.

제 크리스마스 된 거예요.

It's my Christmas.

그쵸. 저에게도 크리스마스는 친척과 친구들이랑 보내는 시간이에요.

That's right. For me, Christmas is a time spent with relatives and friends.

우리 가족은 매년에 친척 방문하러 지방에 가서 거기서 크리스마스를 보내요.

My family goes to the countryside every year to visit relatives and spend Christmas there.

아주 많은 음식 준비하고 해가 들 때 같이 올해 못한 얘기 나눠요.

Let's prepare a lot of food and share the stories we couldn't talk about this year when the sun comes out.

물론 친구들끼리도 크리스마스 파티해요.

Of course, friends also have Christmas parties.

게임하고 술 먹고 그냥 같이 놀아요.

Let's play games, drink, and just hang out together.

올해의 스트레스 풀려고.

근데 코로나 때문에 작년에도 올해도 그런 거 다 못해요. 안 따갑지만.

근데 저한테는 예전부터 달라지지 않은 게 하나가 있는데

그건 크리스마스 때 가족 여행 가는 것.

That's going on a family trip during Christmas.

코로나 바로 이전에 크리스마스는 미국에서 보냈는데

I spent Christmas in the U.S. just before COVID.

솔직히 그냥 친척들 만나고 선물 쇼핑만 했으니까

Honestly, I just spent time with relatives and went gift shopping.

그냥 장소만 다른 거라고 할 수 있죠.

You could just say it's a different place.

근데 특별한 건 미국에 눈이 있으니까 보통 크리스마스 말고 화이트 크리스마스였어요.

But what's special is that in America, there is snow, so it's usually a White Christmas instead of just Christmas.

화이트 크리스마스였어요.

It was a white Christmas.

눈 처음 본 게 아니지만 크리스마스 날에는 밖에 나가서 눈에서 놀면

It's not the first time seeing snow, but if I go outside and play in the snow on Christmas Day...

그건 약간 경이롭고 활론한 느낌이 나거든요.

It feels somewhat wonderful and vibrant.

크리스마스의 대표 이미지는 막 역시 눈이죠.

그래서 가끔 스트레스 받아요.

So sometimes I feel stressed.

파스타, 치킨, 케이크, 샐러드

그런 거 전체부터 후식까지 다 준비해요.

그렇게 너무 많이 준비하거든요.

근데 사랑하는 사람들이 자신이 만든 음식 맛있게 먹는 걸 보기만 해도

마음이 따뜻해지더라고요.

그래요. 크리스마스는 원래 기독교인 기념이에요.

That's right. Christmas is originally a celebration for Christians.

근데 현재 기독교인들과 비기독교인들 모두가 기념하는

However, currently both Christians and non-Christians celebrate.

세계적인 축제인가요?

예를 들어 일본 인구의 약 1%만은 기독교인인데

Australia is in the Southern Hemisphere, so December is a warm summer month.

남미 국가에서는 크리스마스 전구 아니고

In South American countries, it’s not Christmas lights.

크리스마스의 하이라이트는 불꽃놀이예요.

The highlight of Christmas is the fireworks.

그래서 싱글들한테는 외로운 날이라고.

근데 사실은 한국에 크리스마스 되면 연인들만 나가는 게 아니라

가족들이랑 친구들끼리도 마찬가지로 크리스마스를 같이 보내러 나가요.

그러니까 가을 축제나 스키 같은 겨울 활동은 크리스마스 때 한국인들한테 엄청 유명한데요.

So autumn festivals and winter activities like skiing are very popular among Koreans during Christmas.

또 보통 사람들이 나가니까 식당이랑 다양한 가게도 사람들을 끌기 위해 눈에 띄는 크리스마스 장식으로 쫙 있어요.

Since ordinary people are going out, there are also various restaurants and shops decorated with eye-catching Christmas decorations to attract people.
