청주교육대학교 지금 4학년 재학 중 이지원이라고 합니다.

My name is Lee Jiwon, and I am currently in my fourth year at Cheongju National University of Education.

저는 이번 2023년 1월부터 2024년 6월까지 1년 반 동안 학생 성교사로 미국 아틀란타에서 훈련을 받았었고

I received training as a student missionary in Atlanta, USA for a year and a half, from January 2023 to June 2024.

이제 최근 6월에 태국 단기 성교를 끝으로 한국으로 다시 돌아오게 되었습니다.

I recently returned to Korea after finishing a short mission trip in Thailand in June.

그래서 지금 현재는 초등 교육학과 다시 복학하려는 교육 중이십니다.

제가 독클럽 스킹할 때 함께했던 그 모임이

The gathering I attended while skiing with the book club.

학생상조사로 함께 1년 동안 살았던

We lived together for a year as part of a student exchange program.

순장님들하고 같이 했었잖아요.

We did it together with the leaders.

근데 그러면서도 사실

But even so, the truth is

순장님에 대해서 몰랐던 부분도 알게 됐거든요.

I learned some things about the chief that I didn't know before.

사실 1년 동안 살았으면 거의 다 알잖아요.

If you've lived here for a year, you should know almost everything.

알 거 다 알고 있어요.

I know everything.

그냥 어떻게 생각하는지 다 아는데

I know exactly what you think.

근데 몰랐던 게 이 사람이 어떻게 살고 싶은지

But what I didn't know was how this person wants to live.

저는 몰랐더라고요.

I didn't know.

그 삶의 가치, 방향성, 그리고 관점들을 잘 몰랐었는데

I didn't really understand the value of that life, its direction, and perspectives.

책을 읽으면서 그게 다 나오니까 이제

Since it's all revealed while reading the book now.

그 사람에 대한 이해도가 굉장히 높아졌어요.

My understanding of that person has greatly increased.

책도 알아가고 그 사람도 더 깊게 알아가서

Getting to know the book and getting to know the person more deeply.

아예 그 공동체가 이제 좋아져버리는

The community itself ends up getting better.

그런 독클럽 시간이었던 것 같아서

It seems like it was such a 독클럽 time.

나누는 시간은 저는 가장 좋았던 것 같아요.

I think the time we shared was the best for me.

제가 미국 와서 북클럽 연구하면서

Since I came to the United States and studied book clubs...

항상 느낀 건 북클럽을 좋아하는 사람들이 정말 많아요.

I've always felt that there are really a lot of people who love book clubs.

그런데 좋아하는 게 조금 좋아하는 게 아니라

But it's not just that I like it a little.

거의 약간 인생을 걸만큼 좋아하는 사람들이 정말 많아요.

There are really a lot of people who love it enough to almost risk their lives for it.

그래서 제가 공부하면서 느낀 게 외롭지가 않더라고요. 나를 나만 부끄럽게 하는 줄 알았더니

So what I felt while studying is that I don't feel lonely. I thought it was only making me embarrassed.

그 북클럽이 주는 어떤 감동, 특별히 지금 재원자매가 얘기한 것처럼

The emotion that the book club brings, especially as Ji-won mentioned just now.

그 사람의 어떤 내면을 알아간다는 그 기쁨, 그 관계성의 회복 이런 거를 경험한 사람이 너무 많은 거예요.

There are so many people who have experienced the joy of getting to know someone's inner self and the restoration of that relationship.

그래서 저는 꼭 약간 지금 인터뷰하면서 저의 분신을 앞에 놓고 서로한테 주고받는

So I really want to put my alter ego in front of us during this interview and exchange with each other.

다른 사람은 되게 약간 웃길 것 같기도 해요. 저희들이 뭐길래 저를 태어났어?

I think other people might find it a bit funny. What are we, that I was born?

약간 북클럽 편성집회 이런 거.

It's like a little book club organizing meeting or something.

아 그러게. 약간 집회도 되게 재밌겠다.

Oh, right. It would be kind of fun to have a gathering.

저는 이제 목회자로서 모든 목회자들의 꿈은 그거예요. 좋은 공동체를 만드는 거.

As a pastor, my dream, like every pastor's, is to create a good community.

그렇잖아요. 재원자매도.

사람들 물어보면 목회자도 그렇고 좋은 공동체를 만들고 싶고 좋은 공동체를 만나고 싶고 다른 사람을 깊게 알고 싶고

When people ask, pastors as well want to create a good community, want to meet a good community, and want to know others deeply.

그게 궁극적이에요.

That's ultimate.

그러면 이제 그 목적을 어떻게 이룰 건가에 가장 빠른 길이 저는 북클럽이라고 생각하거든요.

Then I think the quickest way to achieve that goal is through a book club.

저는 이제 재원자매 지금 얘기한 거를 녹취록도 만들어서 제가 분석하고 거기에 내 스피드바이트도 따로 적을 건데 저는 지금 너무너무 좋았어요.

I am now going to create a transcript of what Jaiwon said, analyze it, and separately write down my speed bites about it. I feel really, really good right now.

왜냐하면 한 사람은 느낀 점을 적으면서 들으면서 그 사람을 알아간다는 거.

Because one can get to know a person by writing down their feelings while listening.

아 정말 너무 중요하네요. 이거 진짜 기쁘다. 너무 잘했어요. 너무 잘했고.

하나 더 물어보고 싶은데 제가 출판사에 지금 책을 쓰고 있잖아요. 재밌어요.

I want to ask one more thing. I'm currently writing a book for a publisher. It's fun.

왜냐하면 재원자매 같은 경우는 저를 한 번 해봤으니까 북클럽 진짜 좋다. 이건 정말 특별하다. 이런 생각이 있잖아요.

Because Sister Jane has tried it once, she thinks the book club is really good. This is really special. She has that kind of thought.

근데 이제 출판사에서는 제 원고를 좋게 봤지만 북클럽을 직접 해본 분들은 아니에요. 그래서 제가 리퀘스트 했는데 어떻게 될지 모르겠어요.

But the publisher liked my manuscript, but they haven't actually run a book club themselves. So I made a request, but I don't know how it will turn out.

사실 정말 저도 북클럽을 시작하게 된 이유가 목사님이 열정을 보고 이게 뭐지? 저도 해보고 싶어요.

Actually, the reason I started the book club was because I saw the pastor's passion and thought, what is this? I want to try it too.

저도 해보고 싶다라고 해서 참여하게 된 케이스잖아요. 그래서 북클럽의 가치에 대해서 알기까지 해보지 않으면 사실 알기 어려운 것 같아요.

I also wanted to try it, which is why I participated. So I think it's actually hard to understand the value of a book club unless you experience it.

근데 해본 제가 말씀드리자면 우선 저는 전형적인 크리스천, 약간 소극적 경건을 추구하는 크리스천이었어요.

But from my experience, I can say that I was a typical Christian, someone who pursued a somewhat passive devotion.

그래서 내가 말씀해 있는 거, 내가 기도하는 거, 내가 하나님 앞에서 바로 서는 게 너무 중요한 사람이었어요.

So what I'm saying is that it was very important for me to pray and stand right before God.

아 그래요?

Oh, really?

Yes.

그래서 사실 말씀과 연관되지 않으면 다른 가요 왜 들어야 되고 내가 세상적인 거 왜 알아야 되고 이렇게까지 극단적으로 가게 되는 거예요.

So, the reason I'm saying this is that if it's not related to the words, then why should I listen to other songs, and why should I know about worldly matters? It gets to this extreme.

그래서 세상 사실 돌아가는 거 엄청 많은데 정치나 뉴스에 대해서도 지금도 저는 너무 부족하거든요.

So there are a lot of things happening in the world, but I still feel very lacking in knowledge about politics and news.

너무 알지 못하는 부분들이 많고.

There are many things I do not know well.

그런 점에서 북클럽이 너무 좋다고 생각하는 게 어떤 책을 세팅하느냐에 따라 다르겠지만 어떻게 보면 세상적...

In that sense, I think the book club is really great because it can vary depending on which book is chosen, but in a way, it feels worldly...

세상을 세고 있는 사람들, 지금 21세기를 살아가고 있는 사람들이 쓴 책이잖아요.

It's a book written by the people who are counting the world, by those who are living in the 21st century.

그래서 세상의 가치가 어떻게든 들어갈 수밖에 없는데 우리도 마찬가지로 크리스천들은 세상을 살아가야 되는 크리스천이잖아요.

Therefore, the values of the world inevitably come in, and we, as Christians, also have to live in the world as Christians.

그래서 그런 의미에서 이 세상을 어떻게 사는지가 그 책에 녹아져 있을 텐데 그 와중에서 그 책의 가치를 또 부족하고 또 그 와중에서 그럼 우리는 크리스천으로 어떻게 살아야 되는지.

So in that sense, how we live in this world will be reflected in that book, and in the meantime, the value of that book may still be lacking, so how should we live as Christians during this time?

어떻게 살아야 되는지가 논의된다면 이 북클럽이 바리새인과 같은 크리스천이 아니라 더 어떻게 하면 세상으로서 녹아질 수 있는지 적용할 수 있는지 그 적용적인 실천적인 크리스천을 만드는 데 엄청난 역할을 할 수 있다고 생각을 하거든요.

I believe that if we discuss how one should live, this book club can play a tremendous role in fostering practical Christians who are not like Pharisees but can apply how to better integrate into the world.

그런 점에서 이제 다른 여러 가지 모임보가 다른 차별성이라고 생각을 했거든요.

In that sense, I thought that this could be considered a different uniqueness compared to various other gatherings.

Really spurious. Because as a Christian who wants to grow, he learns, evaluates, and overcomes, and since that person is self-centered because they don’t believe in God, they are trying to somehow make an effort to do it in a God-centered way.

We are called by grace.

또 우리는 세상으로 파손돼야 된다.

We must also be broken down into the world.

보내받아야 된다라는 사명을 가지고 있는데

I have the mission that I must send and receive.

저도 학생 성교단체에 깊숙이

I am also deeply involved in the student sexual education group.

어떻게 보면 성교까지 가면서

In a way, it leads to intercourse.

깊숙이 몸담고 있었던 거잖아요.

그러면서 자꾸 이제

그 가치관이 결국은 예수님이라면

If that value system ultimately leads to Jesus.

예수님을 전할 수도 있는 매개체라고 생각하거든요.

I think it can be a medium to convey Jesus.

그래서 그런 방향에서

크리스천 북클럽을 한번 적용해 보고 싶다.

I want to try implementing a Christian book club.

그냥 나만 동기부여를 얻는 사람이 아니라

I'm not just someone who gets motivated alone.

나도 정말 무브먼트를 일으킬 수 있는

I can really create a movement too.

하나님이 선한 국으로

God's good nation

사용될 수 있는 그런 계기가 있다면

If there is an opportunity that can be used.

그 계기가 되었으면 좋겠다는

That place is where the Holy Spirit works.

우리가 크리스천이기 때문에

성령 하나님께서 하나되게 하시는 자리고

It is the place where the Holy Spirit makes us one.

고민하게 하시는 자리인데

It's a situation that makes me think deeply.

저는 진짜 너무 너무 좋았어요.

I really, really enjoyed it.

지금 한 얘기 와

너무 감동받아가지고

I was so moved.

우리가 세상 속으로 나아가고
