일반적으로 약 2.5cm 크기의 곤충으로 미국 남서부와 멕시코가 고향이고요.

Generally, it is an insect about 2.5 cm in size, native to the southwestern United States and Mexico.

반짝이는 금색과 녹색의 등껍질 때문에 곤충 수집가들 사이에선 굉장히 핫한 녀석인데요.

Its shiny gold and green shell makes it extremely popular among insect collectors.

현재는 태국을 비롯한 여러 나라에서 보호종으로 분류되어 있다고 합니다.

It is currently classified as a protected species in several countries, including Thailand.

이 보석풍뎅이는 겉모습만 보면 보석인지 곤충인지

This jewel bug looks like it's either a gem or an insect just from its appearance.

구분이 안 갈 정도로 그 빛깔이 진짜 보석 같은데요.

The color is so vibrant that it looks just like a genuine gem.

의외로 이 화려함이 오히려 무기가 된다고 합니다.

보석풍뎅이에서 식진 열대우림에서는 나뭇잎과 지면에 고인 물에 햇빛이 많이 반사되는데

In the gem beetle's habitat, sunlight is heavily reflected in the water pooled on the leaves and ground of the rainforest.

보석풍뎅이에 반사된 빛이 물에 반사된 빛과 비슷하게 보여서

The light reflected on the jewel beetle looks similar to the light reflected on the water.

천적들의 눈을 피할 수 있다고 하네요.
