이게 어떤 의미냐면 구스타프 말러 하면 떠오르는 레너드 번스타인이라는 지휘자가 있는데 그 지휘자가 이제 마이스트로라는 칭호를 얻은 몇 안 되는 레전드 지휘자인데.

What this means is that when you think of Gustav Mahler, there is the conductor Leonard Bernstein who comes to mind, and that conductor is one of the few legendary conductors who has earned the title of maestro.

사실 음악의 중심, 클래식 음악의 중심이었던 베를리 피라모닉에서 필리핀의 이름 없는 오케스트라를 지휘한다는 건 정말 엄청난 몰락이잖아요.

In fact, conducting an unnamed orchestra from the Philippines at the Berliner Philharmonic, which was the center of music and classical music, is truly a tremendous fall from grace.

이 구토가 어떤 의미일지 궁금한데 그거를 알기 위해서는 타르의 삶에 대해서 조금 알아야 될 필요가 있다고요.

네. 타르 이 영화 같은 경우에는 감독이 이 영화는 권력에 대한 영화라고 인터뷰에서 밝힌 바가 있어요.

Yes. In the case of the film "Tar," the director has stated in interviews that this movie is about power.

수석 지휘자는 오케스트라에서 그냥 그 사람 자체잖아요.

The principal conductor is just that person in the orchestra.

The person with the most leadership among these performers, following the conductor, is Targ, who was very helpful in the process of the conductor becoming the principal conductor, and Targ also took advantage of that help.

또 지휘자가 된 후에는 이제 샤론에게 더 힘을 실어주고 그러니까 둘은 이제 권력을 주고받는 그런 관계인 거죠.

또 타르에게 헌신하는 또 다른 인물이죠.

이런 기대 속에서 헌신을 하는데 결국 타르는 이 프란체스카의 믿음을 저버리고 자신에게 후원하는 엘리엇이라는 인물을 보조지휘자에 앉히거든요.

Amid such expectations, Tar shows devotion but ultimately betrays Francesca's trust by placing a person named Elliot, who supports him, as the assistant conductor.

이 엘리엇 역시 굉장한 부자예요.

This Elliott is also a tremendous wealthy person.

그런데 지휘에 꽂힌 인물이에요.

However, he is someone who is obsessed with conducting.

그래서 재벌이었어요.

타르임에도 지휘를 하고 싶어서 지휘 과외도 받고 자신이 돈을 내고 지휘도 하는 그런 특이한 인물인데 이 사람 역시 이제 지휘자로서 타르의 탁월한 능력과 권력을 등에 업기 위해서 타르를 후원을 하는 거죠.

Despite being an amateur, he wants to conduct and even takes conducting lessons, paying for them himself, making him a unique individual. This person, too, is now sponsoring Tar in order to leverage Tar's excellent abilities and power as a conductor.

그래서 타르도 보답하기 위해서 엘리엇에게 보조지휘자라는 자리를 주고요.

So, to repay Tardo, he gives Elliot the position of assistant conductor.

그러니까 모두가 자신의 이득을 위해서 타르의 권력을 이용하고 또 타르는 그걸 받아들이고 자신의 권력을 더욱더 공고히 하고 그런 과정에서 이제 타르는 점점점점

So everyone is using Tar's power for their own gain, and Tar accepts that and further solidifies their own power, and in that process, Tar increasingly...

부패를 하는 거죠.

It's corruption.

권력을 가진 사람들을 누구나 벗어날 수 없는 거죠.

Those with power cannot escape from anyone.

타르가 워낙 뛰어나고 매력적인 인물이다 보니까 지휘자가 되고 싶은 여성들이 얼마나 흠모하겠어요.

Since Targa is such an outstanding and charming figure, how many women must admire her and want to become conductors?

이런 젊은 학생들을 그루밍해서 성범죄를 했다라는 의혹이 영화 안에서 계속 흘러가거든요.

There are ongoing allegations in the film that young students were groomed and sexually assaulted.

그런 걸 보면 타르는 자신의 권력을 충분히 인지하고 있고 그걸 얼마든지 나쁜 쪽으로도 이용할 수 있는 그런 인물이었던 거죠.

Looking at that, it seems that Tar is a person who is fully aware of his power and can use it for bad purposes if he wants.

와 이런 자.

이게 너무 자연스럽고 당연해서 그게 추락으로 느껴지지 않을 수 있었을 거라고 했던 거죠.

They said it could feel like a fall because it was too natural and obvious.
