내 삶의 길목에서

At the crossroads of my life.

얼마 전에 언니가 농사지은 호박고구마를 보내줬는데

A little while ago, my sister sent me the sweet potatoes she grew.

우리 네 가족이 먹기에는 상당히 많은 양이었습니다.

It was quite a large amount for our family of four to eat.

오래 두고 먹기에는 마땅히 보관할 만도 할 만한 그런 것도 없고

There’s nothing particularly suitable to store for a long time to eat.

게다가 또 언니가 농사지은 거라고 제가 팔아주려고

Moreover, I'm trying to sell the produce that my sister farmed.

시댁에 한 박스 또 친구네 집에 몇 박스 다 보내준 터였습니다.

I had sent one box to my in-laws and a few boxes to my friend's house.

우선은 언니가 보내줬으니 그냥 받아 먹기 죄송해

First of all, I'm sorry for just accepting it since my sister sent it.

언니에게 용돈을 보내드리고

I will send allowance to my older sister.

그리고 이제 어떡할까 하다가 문득 떠오른 생각

And then I suddenly had a thought about what to do next.

나눔이었습니다.

It was sharing.

제가 이곳에 이사 온 지 5년이 다 돼가는데

It's almost been five years since I moved here.

딱히 이웃집에 가본 적도 없고

I haven't really been to the neighbor's house.

그저 엘리베이터에서 만나면 눈인사 정도 하는데

We just exchange a nod when we meet in the elevator.

그래도 어느 정도 얼굴은 알고 지내니

Still, we know each other's faces to some extent.

그 이웃들께 나눠드리자 싶었습니다.

I wanted to share it with those neighbors.

우리 옆집 그리고 아랫집 그 아래 두 집

Our next door neighbor and the house below, the two houses down there.

윗집에 두 집 그래 맞다

There are two houses above us, that's right.

우리 동 청소해 주시는 청소 여사님께도 한 봉지

One bag for the cleaning lady who cleans our hall as well.

적당한 크기의 종이백 10개가 되었습니다.

You have a total of 10 paper bags of suitable size.

10개를 찾아 고구마를 담았습니다.

I found 10 and put them in the sweet potato.

그리고 메모를 썼습니다.

And I wrote a note.

집집마다 초인종 누르기도 그렇고

It's a bit awkward to ring the doorbell at every house.

게다가 우리 윗집은 아기가 있는데 혹시 깰까봐

Moreover, our upstairs neighbor has a baby, and I'm worried it might wake up.

안녕하세요 시골에서 언니가 농사해 지은 고구마를 많이 보내주셔서

Hello, my sister in the countryside sent me a lot of sweet potatoes that she grew.

이웃분들하고 나눠 먹으려고요.

I plan to share it with my neighbors.

지난주 캥거라 베란다에 며칠 말렸다가 드시면 더 좋을 것 같아요.

I think it would be better if you dried the kangaroo on the balcony for a few days before eating it.

그렇게 이웃집 현관 앞에 조심스레 배달을 마쳤습니다.

I carefully completed the delivery in front of the neighbor's door.

그리고 청소하는 여사님께도 고구마를 전해드리고 나니

And after delivering sweet potatoes to the lady who was cleaning,

어찌나 마음이 뿌듯하든지

How proud my heart feels.

그리고 엘리베이터에서 이웃을 만났습니다.

And I ran into a neighbor in the elevator.

어머 혹시 고구마 주신 분 맞으세요?

Oh, are you the person who gave me sweet potatoes?

하면서 그렇지 않아도 고구마 사려고 그랬는데

I was actually going to buy sweet potatoes anyway.

정말 고맙다고?

Are you really thankful?

I sincerely thank you.

고구마 몇 개로 즐거운 미소를 선사한 행복한 시간이었습니다.

It was a happy time that brought cheerful smiles with a few sweet potatoes.
