Nareszcie po tygodniowym postoju oznajmiono nam, że na Zaludrz będzie bitwa, bo Moskale się zbliżają.

Jakoż z rana zaczęto nas rozprowadzać na pozycję, ale tylkośmy wyszli z miasta, dały się słyszeć za nami strzały karabinów.

As we started to move to our positions in the morning, as soon as we left the city, gunfire could be heard behind us.

I znów ta sama historia, co w Staszowie powtórzyła się.

And again the same story happened, just like in Staszów.

Straszny pożar całego Małogoszcza.

Moskale już miasteczko zajęli i podpalili.

Ucieczka mieszkańców ze strasznym krzykiem, płaczem i lamentem.

Rodzice nawoływali dzieci, dzieci krzycząc za rodzicami, bo w całym zamęcie, w tej panice gubili się i jedni o drugich nie wiedzieli, gdzie kto ucieka, gdzie kto się chroni.

The parents were calling for their children, and the children were shouting after their parents, because in all the chaos, in this panic, they were getting lost and did not know where each other was fleeing or where they were taking shelter.

Otóż po wprowadzeniu naszego trzeciego batalionu na jedną z gór otaczających Małogoszcz, zarośniętą jałowcem, kazano nam stać i odstrzeliwać się.

After deploying our third battalion to one of the hills surrounding Małogoszcz, overgrown with juniper, we were ordered to stand and shoot at targets.

Cały batalion nasz był uzbrojony w dubeltówki, które w najlepszym razie mogły szkodzić przeciwnikowi na odległość 150 do 200 metrów.

W rejteradzie wciąż kule nieprzyjacielskie nas dosięgały i jeszcze kilku zabiły i kilku raniły.
