O que é a sua vontade de trabalhar dentro de uma arquitetura tão marcante?

What is your desire to work within such a striking architecture?

Uma catedral, dentro de alguma igreja, ou mesmo uma instituição de arte, um museu com pé direito alto.

A cathedral, inside some church, or even an art institution, a museum with high ceilings.

Só uma vontade que surgiu.

Então, eu acho que, assim, referência, inspiração, são os artistas de fato mesmo, né, assim.

So, I think that, well, reference, inspiration, are the artists themselves, right, like that.

E um modo de vida, um modo de vida na contramão.

It's a way of life, a way of life against the tide.

Por isso que é um pouco paradoxal eu ser galerista, porque a galeria é um comércio, né.

That's why it's a bit paradoxical for me to be a gallery owner, because the gallery is a business, right?

E a galeria tá dentro desse mundo...

And the gallery is inside this world...

Eu sou uma empresária, né, no final das contas, né.

I am a businesswoman, right, after all, right?

Assim, eu lido com questões diárias que me consomem muito do meu tempo,

que são mais ligados a uma empresa, qualquer que seja ela, do que a arte propriamente dita, né.

Mas eu ainda assim acredito num modo de vida.

Num modo de vida que a palavra de ordem seria liberdade mesmo, talvez, né, assim.

Então, eu já fui muito funcionária, já trabalhei com milhões de coisas e eu realmente não dou conta, assim.

So, I have been an employee a lot, I have worked with millions of things and I really can't handle it, like that.

Eu não dou conta da estrutura como ela foi formada, né.

I can't understand how the structure was formed, right?

Assim, das estruturas de poder, das estruturas hierárquicas, dos poderes mal utilizados pelo homem em geral.

Principalmente o homem masculino, mas em geral.

Então, a vida inteira eu tinha uma inquietação, assim, de como é que eu ia poder ter uma autonomia financeira, né.

Mas combinada com uma autonomia...

E eu acabei encontrando na galeria essa possibilidade.

And I ended up finding this possibility in the gallery.

Não é fácil.

É um trabalho bastante...

Que demanda muito.

Precisa realmente ter muita...

You really need to have a lot...

Ter muita vontade, mas eu tenho muita vontade, assim.

I have a strong desire, but I really want it, like that.

Eu realmente acho incrível, assim, os artistas se movimentando.

I really think it's amazing how the artists are moving.

Cada um no seu jeito, cada um realmente do seu jeito, né.

Each one in their own way, really each one in their own way, right?

Eu acho que tem um aspecto da individualidade, da subjetividade,

I think there is an aspect of individuality, of subjectivity,

que é o que torna o meu trabalho difícil também, porque não tem muito como generalizar as coisas, né.

which is what makes my work difficult as well, because there isn't much you can generalize about things, right.

Não tem como padronizar as coisas, não é um produto, né.

Cada coisa, cada coisa gerada, ela tem toda uma coisa diferente da outra, né, assim.

Everything, every thing created, has its own unique qualities different from the other, right?

E como os artistas, principalmente no Brasil, que é um país que não tem grandes tipos de apoio, né, pra essa profissão, né.

And like the artists, especially in Brazil, which is a country that doesn't have much support for this profession, right?

Tem bolsa de estudos, prêmios, é tudo muito precário, né, assim.

There are scholarships, awards, it's all very precarious, right, like that.

E também não tem um jeito de você...

And there's no way for you to...

Não tem um jeito de você, por exemplo, trabalhar em outras coisas e ganhar uma graninha e ser artista, por exemplo.

There's a way for you, for example, to work on other things and earn some money while being an artist, for example.

Porque, né, na Europa, por exemplo, você pode ser garçom no fim de semana e ser artista, né, assim.

Because, right, in Europe, for example, you can be a waiter on the weekend and be an artist, right, like that.

Aqui não tem muito essa possibilidade, principalmente em São Paulo, o custo de vida é muito alto.

There isn't much of this possibility here, especially in São Paulo, the cost of living is very high.

Então, pra você manter um custo de vida em São Paulo, você tem que trabalhar que nem um alucinado com qualquer coisa, né, assim.

So, to maintain a cost of living in São Paulo, you have to work like a madman at anything, right, like that.

E aí... E o artista, ele precisa de um tempo de alienação do mundo como ele tá desenhado hoje, né.

Principalmente neoliberal, capitalista e, infelizmente, um tanto, assim, autoritário e fascista, né.

Porque, até pra falar desses aspectos da realidade do mundo de hoje, precisa ter um distanciamento mesmo, né.

Porque, se você tá muito envolvido com tudo que tá acontecendo, você não consegue...

Eu li uma coisa muito maravilhosa ontem, sei lá, esses dias na Folha, o Rodrigo Andrade escreveu uma matéria...

Ele fez também uma exposição pré-pandemia, né, na Milã.

He also had a pre-pandemic exhibition, right, in Milan.

E aí, logo que a exposição ia abrir, não abriu, e ela ficou lá, intacta, e ele foi visitar a exposição depois de quatro meses.

And then, just when the exhibition was about to open, it didn’t open, and it stayed there, intact, and he visited the exhibition after four months.

É... Uma exposição de pintura, né.
