mas moro em Balneário Camboriú, fiz todos os meus estudos ali no sul do Brasil, eu fiz todos os meus estudos ali no sul do Brasil,

fiz mestrado, fiz faculdade de farmácia, ciências farmacêuticas, na UFSC, já sabia que eu queria pesquisa, desde sempre,

I completed my master's degree, I studied pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, at UFSC, I always knew I wanted to do research.

eu achei que eu fosse fazer genética, pensei que eu fosse ser geneticista, porque na época estava muito em alta a fertilização in vitro,

I thought I was going to do genetics, I thought I was going to be a geneticist, because at the time in vitro fertilization was very popular.

e eu assistia muito TV, e eu falei, ah, eu quero fazer bebezinho de proveta, e aí estudei genética e vi que não era tão simples assim,

and I watched a lot of TV, and I said, oh, I want to make little test-tube babies, and then I studied genetics and saw that it wasn’t that simple.

mas eu sabia que eu queria me...

but I knew that I wanted to...

aprofundar num tema e ser professora, porque minha mãe já é professora, minha madrinha é professora, minha família todas eram de professores, são de professores,

to delve into a subject and be a teacher, because my mother is already a teacher, my godmother is a teacher, my whole family has been teachers, are teachers.

e eu fui professora de piano por muito tempo, então eu falei assim, bom, vou fazer farmácia, mas eu quero trabalhar com docência.

And I was a piano teacher for a long time, so I said to myself, well, I will study pharmacy, but I want to work in teaching.

Trabalhei em uma farmácia comercial muito pouco tempo, e logo fui fazer mestrado, meu mestrado é em ciências farmacêuticas, trabalhei com desenvolvimento de formulações,

I worked at a commercial pharmacy for a very short time, and soon I went to pursue a master's degree. My master's is in pharmaceutical sciences, and I worked on the development of formulations.

então ali eu tive já o primeiro contato com patentes, com indústria.

So there I had my first contact with patents and industry.

Trabalhei desde lá com, tanto com hormônios, quanto com drogas anti-inflamatórias, fazendo processos de nanotecnologia,

I worked there with both hormones and anti-inflammatory drugs, doing nanotechnology processes.

que depois eu vou falar um pouquinho sobre essa nova velha tendência, né, da entrega vetorizada do medicamento pro tecido que é necessário,

that later I will talk a little about this new old trend, right, of the vectorized delivery of the drug to the necessary tissue,

você não precisa colocar no joelho uma medicação que o pulmão precisa.

You don't need to put in your knee medication that the lung needs.

Então, desde lá, eu tive uma possibilidade de ter um mestrado bem tecnológico.

So, since then, I had the opportunity to have a very technological master's degree.

E depois que eu terminei o mestrado...

And after I finished my master's...

E depois que eu terminei o mestrado, eu já emendei o doutorado, já dando aula nas universidades que eram próximas.

And after I finished my master's degree, I immediately went on to my doctorate, already teaching at the nearby universities.

No meu doutorado, eu trabalhei com farmacologia também, foi um doutorado muito gostoso, porque eu desenvolvi um medicamento,

In my doctorate, I also worked with pharmacology; it was a very enjoyable doctorate because I developed a medication.

tive a oportunidade de apresentar esse medicamento pra uma indústria, de ver como é essa parte toda do ensaio pré-clínico, clínico,

I had the opportunity to present this medication to an industry, to see how the entire preclinical and clinical trial part works.

mas a medicação ficou muito cara e não foi viável a gente comercializar.

but the medication became very expensive and it wasn't feasible for us to market it.

E terminou.

And it's over.

Terminando, eu estava no quarto ano do doutorado, no finalzinho do doutorado, eu fui convidada por um professor, professor André Báfica,

To conclude, I was in the fourth year of my doctorate, right at the end of my doctorate, when I was invited by a professor, Professor André Báfica.

que está até participando agora dessa parte toda do desenvolvimento de vacinas.

which is even participating now in this whole vaccine development process.

Ele é brasileiro, mas ficou nos Estados Unidos muito tempo e me convidou pra compor a equipe dele,

He is Brazilian, but he stayed in the United States for a long time and invited me to join his team.

porque como eu fazia medicamentos que eram vetorizados pras células, pra célula de cabelo, pra célula do nariz, pra célula do joelho,

because I was making medications that were targeted to the cells, to the hair cell, to the nose cell, to the knee cell,

ele queria uma medicação que fosse direto pro macrófago, lá na turma.

He wanted a medication that would go straight to the macrophage, there in the group.

E aí eu estava terminando o doutorado, ele falou, eu quero você já aqui, então eu comecei meu pós-doutorado antes de terminar meu doutorado.

And then I was finishing my PhD, he said, I want you here already, so I started my postdoc before finishing my PhD.

E foi uma honra, porque eu estava numa equipe de pessoas que eram muito capacitadas, tinham suecos, tinham americanos,

And it was an honor because I was in a team of very capable people, there were Swedes, there were Americans,

e eu me dividia com doutorado e com pós-doutorado.

and I divided myself between a doctorate and a post-doctorate.

E eu ganhei uma bolsa, na época do governo, de um milhão de reais, pra equipar um laboratório de pós-doutoramento.

And I won a scholarship, during the government era, of one million reais, to equip a post-doctorate laboratory.

Comprei um cromatógrafo líquido.

I bought a liquid chromatograph.

É...

It is...

Equipei, com vários equipamentos, enfim, e a pesquisa deu muito certo.

I equipped it with several tools, and the research turned out very well.

Deu muito certo.

It worked out very well.

Fui premiada, fui pra fora do Brasil, fui pra Alemanha, fui pra Bélgica, fui pra França,

I was awarded, I went abroad, I went to Germany, I went to Belgium, I went to France.

tudo levando essa nova tecnologia que são as nanopartículas.

everything leading to this new technology which is nanoparticles.

Nesse interim, que eu terminei o primeiro pós-doutoramento, dúvidas ficaram.

In the meantime, after I finished the first postdoctoral fellowship, doubts remained.

A gente fala que pesquisa a gente não termina, a gente desiste, né?

We say that research we don't finish, we just give up, right?

E eu tinha que desistir da minha.

And I had to give up mine.

Mas eu não consegui.

But I couldn't.

Então eu fui pra um outro laboratório, um laboratório de engenharia química,

So I went to another lab, a chemical engineering lab,

pra conseguir estudar os vetores, como que eu conseguia formar aquelas moléculas,

to be able to study the vectors, how did I manage to form those molecules,

de forma que elas não fossem tóxicas pro organismo.

so that they would not be toxic to the body.

E foi aí então, nesse meio tempo, que eu conheci o professor Valdemar Guimarães,

And it was there, in the meantime, that I met Professor Valdemar Guimarães.

na academia, enfim, e contei pra ele o que eu fazia.

at the gym, finally, and I told him what I did.

Ele falou, muito interessante, menino, o que você está estudando.

He said, very interesting, boy, what are you studying?

Por que que você não encapsula hormônios?

Why don't you encapsulate hormones?

E aí eu nunca tinha ouvido falar, assim, de uma maneira tão direta, sobre esteroides anabolizantes.

And then I had never heard about anabolic steroids in such a direct way.

E comecei a trabalhar com GH, no meu segundo pós-doutoramento.

And I started working with GH during my second postdoc.

No terceiro pós-doutoramento, também, comecei a trabalhar com peptídeos.

In the third postdoc, I also started working with peptides.

E aí, como eu trabalhei muito com o Valdemar, em palestras, eu comecei a me envolver com esporte.

So, since I worked a lot with Valdemar in lectures, I started to get involved with sports.

Comecei a me envolver com fisiculturismo, dando palestras pra fisiculturistas.

I started getting involved with bodybuilding, giving lectures for bodybuilders.

E também me tornei uma fisiculturista.

And I also became a bodybuilder.

Não fui profissional, obviamente.

I wasn't professional, obviously.

Mas competi quatro, cinco vezes, fui a Arnold.

But I competed four, five times, I went to Arnold.

E eu vi que, a partir do momento que eu virei atleta, a minha fala, ela foi muito mais empoderada.

And I saw that from the moment I became an athlete, my speech became much more empowered.

Porque eu falava pra atleta, eu mostrava as estruturas.

Because I was talking to the athlete, I was showing the structures.

Mas quando eu via aquilo em mim, o treino, a dieta em mim, tudo aquilo acontecendo,

But when I saw that in myself, the training, the diet in me, all that happening,

eu emocionava mais as pessoas.

I used to move people more.

Então, o que que eu ouvia de feedback dos meus alunos?

So, what was I hearing as feedback from my students?

Ela fala o que ela vive.

She speaks what she lives.

Nem sempre isso é possível, né?

That's not always possible, is it?

Você não precisa ter câncer pra falar de câncer.

You don't need to have cancer to talk about cancer.

Mas se você tem alguém perto que tá sofrendo com a doença,

But if you have someone close who is suffering from the disease,

você acaba tendo uma sensibilidade maior pra falar do assunto.

you end up having a greater sensitivity to talk about the subject.

E eu acredito que a minha carreira, ela tem sido construída nesse sentido.

And I believe that my career has been built in that sense.

Nessa proximidade das coisas que eu vivo e faço, falo, né?

In this proximity of the things I live and do, I talk, right?

Mas, principalmente, porque eu consigo trazer o aluno pra perto

But, mainly, because I can bring the student closer.

dessa experiência, dessa vivência.

of this experience, of this life.

E sempre que eu dou uma aula, ou de hormônios, ou de suplementação,

And whenever I teach a class, either about hormones or supplementation,

ou a parte de mulheres, né?

or the women's part, right?

Eu digo sempre pra elas, experimente uma vez subir ao palco.

I always tell them, try going on stage once.

Experimente periodizar um treinamento.

Try periodizing a training program.

Experimente aquilo que você tá estudando.

Try what you are studying.

Porque realmente faz toda a diferença.

Because it really makes all the difference.

E aí, nesse momento, finalizando essa primeira fala,

And then, at that moment, concluding this first speech,

eu não estou mais com a graduação, porque eu fui professora de graduação por muito tempo.

I am no longer with the degree, because I was an undergraduate professor for a long time.

Trabalhei em universidades do estado de Santa Catarina.

I worked at universities in the state of Santa Catarina.

Eu sou de Santa Catarina.

I am from Santa Catarina.

Mas é na pós-graduação que eu consigo realmente colocar em prática o que eu estudo.

But it is in graduate school that I can really put into practice what I study.

Como eu falei pra vocês no início, eu sou uma eterna estudante, serei sempre estudante.

As I told you at the beginning, I am an eternal student; I will always be a student.

Então, aquilo que eu estudo diariamente, eu consigo transmitir nas aulas de pós-graduação.

So, what I study daily, I am able to convey in the postgraduate classes.

E durante a pandemia, onde os afastamentos presenciais aconteceram,

And during the pandemic, when in-person absences occurred,

foi um período de grande sofrimento.

It was a period of great suffering.

Porque a troca de olhar, a ocitocina, a cabeça balançando pro sim, pro não, te olhando diferente,

Because the exchange of glances, oxytocin, the head nodding yes, no, looking at you differently,

faz muita diferença na hora do ensino.

makes a lot of difference when it comes to teaching.

Eu acredito muito no ensino à distância.

I believe a lot in distance learning.

Eu acho que a gente tem duas grandes possibilidades.

I think we have two great possibilities.

Mas quando a gente tem um sistema híbrido de educação, é muito gostoso também.

But when we have a hybrid education system, it's also very enjoyable.

Então, isso é um pouquinho, assim, do que eu vivo e do que eu vivi

So, this is a little bit of what I live and what I have lived.

como professora e como estudante.

as a teacher and as a student.

Como eu falei, né, dá pra falar muito.

As I said, right, you can talk a lot.

E fala, né?

And it speaks, right?

Dá pra falar muito sobre a vida aí dos professores, eu sei.

There is a lot to say about the life of teachers, I know.

Porque é uma longa caminhada até chegar num pós-doutorado, até chegar num doutorado.

Because it is a long journey to reach a postdoctoral position, to reach a doctoral degree.

Eu tava ontem com o professor Lázaro conversando na minha sala ali.

I was with Professor Lázaro yesterday chatting in my classroom over there.

A gente tava olhando o meu certificado, falando pra ele que eu entrei no mestrado no mesmo ano que ele.

We were looking at my certificate, telling him that I entered the master's program in the same year as he did.

Então, foi bacana relembrar essa trajetória.

So, it was nice to reminisce about this journey.

Então, eu queria que o professor Lázaro aí também se apresentasse ao nosso público.

So, I would like Professor Lázaro to introduce himself to our audience as well.

É um professor que, de certa forma, a gente tem pouco tempo de conhecimento, de relacionamento.

He is a teacher with whom we have had little time to get to know or to build a relationship.

Conheço o professor Lázaro já por um livro que ele escreveu sobre exames laboratoriais.

I know Professor Lázaro from a book he wrote about laboratory exams.

Onde eu tentei trazer ele pra um curso em Campinas.

Where I tried to bring him to a course in Campinas.

Começamos uma conversa, mas na época eu acredito que ele tava com muito trabalho.

We started a conversation, but at the time I believe he was very busy with work.

E não conseguiu nos atender.

And he/she could not attend to us.

Mas não por não querer, e sim por não conseguir a agenda pra aquele momento.

But not because I didn't want to, and yes because I couldn't fit it into my schedule at that moment.

Então, nesse momento o Lázaro tá aqui com a Uniguaçu.

E aí pra falar um pouco da minha formação.

Eu sou farmacêutico, assim como a doutora Tati.

I am a pharmacist, just like Dr. Tati.

É um pouco diferente.

Eu sou farmacêutico analista clínico, né?

I am a clinical analyst pharmacist, right?

A minha formação foi análises clínicas.

My education was in clinical analysis.

E eu me formei em 1996.

And I graduated in 1996.

Às vezes o pessoal não gosta de falar muito o ano.

Sometimes people don't like to talk much about the year.

Mas era um ano bem diferente.

But it was a very different year.

Não tinha toda essa tecnologia que a gente tem hoje, né?

There wasn't all this technology that we have today, was there?

E desde a graduação em farmácia.

And since the graduation in pharmacy.

Lá em Alfenas, né? Sul de Minas.

There in Alfenas, right? South of Minas.

Eu já fiquei fascinado com essa coisa da pesquisa.

I have already been fascinated by this research thing.

E eu sempre gostei também de lecionar.

And I have always enjoyed teaching as well.

Eu gostava muito de estudar junto com os meus colegas.

I really enjoyed studying with my classmates.

E eu acredito muito que a gente, às vezes, aprende mais ensinando.

And I truly believe that sometimes we learn more by teaching.

E aí isso que eu procurava muito.

And that’s exactly what I was looking for.

Dar um seminário, uma palestra.

Give a seminar, a lecture.

Então desde a graduação eu já tinha essa vontade.

So since my undergraduate studies, I had this desire.

Fazer pesquisa e ser um professor universitário.

Conduct research and be a university professor.

Só que a dificuldade...

Just that the difficulty...

A dificuldade de se estudar, às vezes, longe de um grande centro

The difficulty of studying, sometimes, away from a major center.

faz com que você tenha que vencer algumas barreiras, né?

It makes you have to overcome some barriers, right?

Como a gente não tinha internet nesse tempo.

Since we didn't have internet at that time.

Computador nem tinha na faculdade ainda, né?

There weren't even computers in college yet, right?

Então eu tinha que pegar o ônibus, ir até São Paulo.

So I had to take the bus, go to São Paulo.

Fazer pesquisa na biblioteca da USP.

Conduct research at the USP library.

E aí, às vezes, algumas pessoas sentem essa dificuldade

And then, sometimes, some people feel this difficulty.

e desistem no primeiro obstáculo.

and give up at the first obstacle.

O que eu acho que tem que ficar de recado também

What I think needs to be noted as well

Eu tinha aquele sonho de fazer um mestrado em farmácia hospitalar.

I had that dream of doing a master's in hospital pharmacy.

E não pensava muito em análises clínicas.

And didn't think much about clinical analyses.

Só que o que acontece quando uma pessoa se forma,

But what happens when a person graduates,

termina a graduação, é que ele está ali no mercado

He finishes his degree, it's just that he is out there in the market.

como a gente brinca, desempregado agora, né?

How we joke, unemployed now, right?

Mais um desempregado.

Another unemployed person.

E eu consegui um emprego no laboratório de análises clínicas.

And I got a job in the clinical analysis laboratory.

E engraçado porque eu falava,

It's funny because I was talking,

nunca vou trabalhar em análises clínicas.

I will never work in clinical analysis.

E foi o lugar que eu me encontrei.

And it was the place where I found myself.

Porque ali eu consegui estudar,

Because there I was able to study,

eu consegui fazer exames ali,

I was able to take exams there,

trabalhar um pouco essa questão do ensino,

work a little on this issue of teaching,

treinar os colaboradores.
