Esta é uma história de um homem que contratou um carpinteiro

This is a story of a man who hired a carpenter.

para ajudar a arrumar algumas coisas na sua fazenda

to help organize some things on your farm

O primeiro dia de trabalho do carpinteiro foi bem difícil

The carpenter's first day at work was quite difficult.

O pneu de seu carro furou e ele deixou de ganhar uma hora de trabalho

The tire of his car punctured, and he missed an hour of work.

A sua serra quebrou, ele cortou o dedo

His saw broke, he cut his finger.

e finalmente seu carro não funcionou no final do dia, na hora que iria embora

And finally, your car didn’t work at the end of the day, just when you were about to leave.

O homem que contratou o carpinteiro ofereceu-lhe uma carona para casa

The man who hired the carpenter offered him a ride home.

e durante o caminho o carpinteiro não falou nada

And along the way, the carpenter said nothing.

Quando chegaram à sua casa, o carpinteiro convidou o homem para entrar e conhecer a sua família

When they arrived at his house, the carpenter invited the man to come in and meet his family.

Quando os dois homens estavam se encaminhando para a porta da frente

When the two men were heading towards the front door.

o carpinteiro parou, juntou uma pequena árvore e gentilmente tocou as pontas dos galhos com as suas mãos

the carpenter stopped, gathered a small tree and gently touched the tips of the branches with his hands

Depois de abrir a porta da casa, o carpinteiro transformou-se

After opening the door of the house, the carpenter transformed.

Os traços tensos de seu rosto transformaram-se em um grande sorriso

The tense lines of his face transformed into a wide smile.

Ele abraçou seus filhos e beijou sua esposa

He hugged his children and kissed his wife.

Um pouco mais tarde, o carpinteiro acompanhou sua visita até o carro

A little later, the carpenter accompanied his visitor to the car.

Assim que eles passaram pela árvore, o homem perguntou por que ele havia tocado na planta antes de entrar em casa

As soon as they passed by the tree, the man asked why he had touched the plant before entering the house.

Ah, respondeu o carpinteiro, esta em mim é a árvore dos problemas

Ah, the carpenter replied, this in me is the tree of problems.

Como eu sei que eu não posso evitar ter problemas no meu trabalho

How do I know that I cannot avoid having problems at my job?

e também sei que não posso trazê-los para meus filhos e esposa

and I also know that I cannot bring them to my children and wife

Então eu resolvi que talvez eu não possa fazer isso

So I decided that maybe I can't do this.

Toda noite eu deixaria os meus problemas nesta árvore e os pegaria na manhã seguinte

Every night I would leave my problems at this tree and pick them up the next morning.

E funcionou? Perguntou o homem já chegando no seu carro

And did it work? The man asked as he was approaching his car.

Se o senhor quer saber, funcionou melhor do que eu esperava

If you want to know, it worked better than I expected.

Todas as manhãs, quando eu volto para pegar os meus problemas

Every morning, when I go back to pick up my problems.

eles não são nem metade do que eu me lembro de ter deixado na noite anterior

they are not even half of what I remember leaving the night before

A história ajuda a refletir sobre a postura que adotamos frente a um problema.

The story helps to reflect on the stance we take towards a problem.

Os problemas não sumirão da noite para o dia, e isso não é novidade.

Problems will not disappear overnight, and that is nothing new.

A grande questão é estarmos conscientes a ponto de conseguir dar o devido tamanho e atenção ao problema.

The big question is whether we are aware enough to give the problem the appropriate size and attention it deserves.

Quando estamos num piloto automático e tomados pela preocupação,

When we are on autopilot and consumed by worry,

os problemas atrapalham o sono, os relacionamentos, a produtividade e a nossa saúde.

Problems interfere with sleep, relationships, productivity, and our health.

O carpinteiro foi sábio em separar os problemas do trabalho e não levar para a família.

The carpenter was wise to separate work problems and not bring them home to his family.

Mas sabemos que fazer isso não é fácil.

But we know that doing this is not easy.

Existem problemas que tiram o sono e invadem nosso pensamento.

There are problems that keep us awake and invade our thoughts.

Mas a árvore da história pode ser um bloquinho de notas, por exemplo.

But the tree of history can be a notepad, for example.

Se um problema atormenta sua paz, escreva as possíveis soluções

If a problem is tormenting your peace, write down the possible solutions.

ou as providências que precisamos.

or the measures we need.

Isso pode ajudar a acalmar seus pensamentos e angústias.

This can help calm your thoughts and anxieties.

Pois, de alguma forma, você está dizendo para si que não está ignorando o problema

Well, in a way, you are telling yourself that you are not ignoring the problem.

e que fez tudo o que podia fazer naquele momento,

and did everything he could do at that moment,

e que perder o sono a essa altura não vai solucioná-lo mais rápido.

And losing sleep at this point won't solve it any faster.
