A história que vos trago esta semana é sobre o Kevin, um coala que tinha muito medo.

The story I bring you this week is about Kevin, a koala who was very afraid.

O coala que foi capaz, da Rachel Brin e da Jean Fez.

The koala that was able, by Rachel Brin and Jean Fez.

Ao nascer de um novo dia, num certo lugar risonho, onde as brisas são suaves e o calor do sol, um sonho.

At the dawn of a new day, in a certain cheerful place, where the breezes are gentle and the warmth of the sun, a dream.

Onde os animais são livres de correr por todo o lado, temos um coala, o Kevin, uma árvore pendurada.

Where the animals are free to run all around, we have a koala, Kevin, hanging from a tree.

Não há quem não goste deste bichinho peludo, que desde os pés às orelhas é macio como tudo.

There is no one who doesn't like this furry little creature, which is soft as anything from its feet to its ears.

Quando está estendido ao sol, o que ele mais aprecia é pendurar-se, dormir ou trincar uma folha macia.

When it is stretched out in the sun, what it enjoys the most is to hang, sleep, or nibble on a soft leaf.

Ao fazer estas três coisas, ele é um artista.

By doing these three things, he is an artist.

O artista é completo. Sim, o Kevin é o rei, na arte de ficar quieto.

The artist is complete. Yes, Kevin is the king in the art of being quiet.

No alto ele está seguro, porque é muito vagaroso. E lá embaixo, aquele chão, dá-lhe um medo horroroso.

Up high he is safe, because it is very slow. And down there, that ground, it gives him a horrible fear.

É tudo muito rápido, barulhento e tão grande e diferente.

It's all very fast, noisy, and so big and different.

Não, sem se mexer e sem mudar, assim é que ele está contente.

No, without moving and without changing, that's how he is happy.

Por isso agarra a árvore como só ele sabe agarrar.

That's why he grabs the tree like only he knows how to grab it.

Tentar coisas diferentes? Ah, isso nem pensar.

Trying different things? Oh, that's out of the question.

Quando o bombante apareceu e perguntou a gritar.

When the firefly appeared and asked while shouting.

Oh, Kevin, não queres descer?

Não queres descer daí e vir brincar?

Hum, eu acho, respondeu, que é melhor ficar por cá.

Por que não? Disse o canguru, que o queria tentar convencer.

"Why not?" said the kangaroo, who wanted to try to convince him.

Sim, porquê? Gritaram os dingos. Não há nada que temer.

Mas o Kevin, que não era coala de arriscar, disse.

But Kevin, who wasn't a koala to take risks, said.

Porém, quando o Kevin os viu em alegre companhia, sentiu vontade de estar também com eles um dia.

However, when Kevin saw them in cheerful company, he felt like being with them one day as well.

Mas ia sentir saudades de casa, no escuro, na hora da tardia.

But I was going to miss home, in the dark, at late hours.

Era muito arriscado, nessa aventura ele não ia.

It was very risky; he wasn't going on that adventure.

Fosse qual fosse o convite, não, ia sempre recusar.

Whatever the invitation was, no, I would always refuse.

Já estamos a ver que o Kevin não se ia conseguir soltar.

We can already see that Kevin wasn't going to be able to let loose.

E a sua vida era sempre igual.

And your life was always the same.

Dia após dia, semanas, ia e vinham e cada mês excedia.

Day after day, weeks came and went, and each month exceeded.

E o Kevin sempre quieto, enquanto o mundo lhe passava ao lado.

And Kevin always quiet, while the world passed him by.

Até que um dia um som o acordou a ser apantado.

Until one day a sound woke him up to be startled.

Oh!

Oh!

O que seria?

What would it be?

Tap, tap, tap.

Tap, tap, tap.

Fazia o som. Ai, que aflição!

It made the sound. Oh, what distress!

Oh, não! Era um pica-pau que estava a picar a árvore do Kevin.

Oh no! It was a woodpecker pecking at Kevin's tree.

Larga-te! Gritaram todos cá em baixo reunidos.

Get away! Everyone shouted down here gathered.

Salta que nós apanhamos, de dar-nos ouvidos.

Jump that we catch, by giving us ears.

Mas ele tinha medo. Eu, lagar-me? Que perigo!

But he was afraid. Me, let myself go? What a danger!

Nem pensar, teimou o Kevin. Ai, ai! Eu não consigo!

No way, insisted Kevin. Oh dear! I can't do it!

Para bom!

So good!

E lá veio a árvore ao chão, com um estrondo danado, um selo e uma pancada.

And there came the tree to the ground, with a great roar, a stamp, and a thud.

E o Kevin sempre agarrado.

And Kevin is always stuck.

Abriu então os olhos num tudo ou nada e afitou a amizade que o mirava interessada.

He then opened his eyes in a do-or-die moment and stared at the friendship that was watching him intently.

Depois, uma garra de cada vez, soltou-se finalmente.

Then, one claw at a time, it finally broke free.

E sentiu-se ágil, leve, jovem e tão contente.

And he felt agile, light, young, and so happy.

O pior que podia imaginar acontecer daquela maneira.

The worst I could imagine happening that way.

Mas ele estava muito bem. Sentia-se de primeira.

But he was feeling great. He felt like a million bucks.

Assim, quando viu o bombante a estender-lhe a pata amiga, o Kevin o recusou, à sua maneira antiga.

Thus, when he saw the bombastic one extending its friendly paw to him, Kevin rejected it in his old way.

Quando o Dingo perguntou, agora já consegues vir brincar?

When Dingo asked, can you come play now?

E os outros se juntaram a querer-lhe convidar, esquecido de se agarrar e sentindo-se mais audaz.

And the others joined in wanting to invite him, forgetting to hold back and feeling bolder.

O Kevin respondeu, sim, eu acho que sou capaz.

Kevin replied, yes, I think I am capable.

E o Kevin começou a fazer tudo aí para a frente.

And Kevin started to do everything from then on.

Porque a vida pode ser ótima quando se tenta algo diferente.

Because life can be great when you try something different.
