Para tratar de desencontros a gente vai recorrer a uma história que envolve um dos grandes nomes da Revolução Francesa,

para ser mais específico, um dos grandes nomes do Iluminismo.

O nome dele é D'Alembert.

His name is D'Alembert.

D'Alembert era extremamente apaixonado pela Julie e uma paixão que não podia ser.

D'Alembert was extremely in love with Julie, and a passion that could not be.

Tinha uma oratória bacana, uma inteligência notável, mas nada a ponto de encantar a Julie a se apaixonar por ele.

He had a nice oratory, remarkable intelligence, but nothing that would enchant Julie into falling in love with him.

Dessa maneira a gente tinha uma relação dessas, onde A ama B, mas B não ama A.

In this way, we had a relationship like this, where A loves B, but B does not love A.

Mas ainda assim, viviam no mesmo prédio e sabiam todos que de alguma forma se encontravam,

E é justamente arrumando as coisas da Julie,

D'Alembert encontra inúmeras cartas de amor da Julie para o Guilherme.

D'Alembert finds numerous love letters from Julie to Guilherme.

Arrumando as coisas da sua amada, D'Alembert descobre que a sua amada era apaixonada por outro homem.

Sorting through his beloved's things, D'Alembert discovers that his beloved was in love with another man.

E o D'Alembert então escreve uma carta enorme para a Julie,

And D'Alembert then writes a huge letter to Julie,

dizendo, olha, você me maltratou.

saying, look, you mistreated me.

Eu passei a vida inteira dedicado a esse amor,

I have spent my entire life dedicated to this love,

eu passei a vida inteira voltado para esse amor que não podia ser.

I spent my entire life focused on a love that could not be.

E você tinha uma outra pessoa que você gostava.

And you had another person that you liked.

Por que você não me disse?

Why didn't you tell me?

E D'Alembert está muito chateado.

And D'Alembert is very upset.

Semanas depois, então, D'Alembert escreve uma outra carta.

Weeks later, then, D'Alembert writes another letter.

E, curiosamente, a gente tem a segunda carta para alguém morto.

And, curiously, we have the second letter for someone who is dead.

Eu quero que você entenda que essa carta não vai ser respondida.

I want you to understand that this letter will not be answered.

E essa segunda carta, D'Alembert diz, olha, na última carta eu fui muito duro com você.

In this second letter, D'Alembert says, look, in the last letter I was very harsh with you.

Sabe, eu te entendo, nem sempre dá para a gente fazer tudo o que a gente imagina.

You know, I understand you, it's not always possible for us to do everything we imagine.

Essa história nos conta, me parece, um pouco desses encontros e desencontros que caracterizam a vida.

This story tells us, it seems to me, a little about those encounters and mismatches that characterize life.

Esses momentos em que a emoção grita e fala mais alto, e o amor com regras próprias define

These moments when emotion screams and speaks louder, and love with its own rules defines.
