Só fazia um bom tempo que aquele policial estava de olho naquele motorista apressadinho.

It had only been a good while that the policeman was watching that hurried driver.

Ele pensou, amanhã esse malandro não vai me escapar. Vou pará-lo e lhe darei uma multa daquelas, bem salgada.

He thought, tomorrow this rascal won't get away from me. I'm going to stop him and give him one of those hefty fines.

O engraçadinho não perde por esperar.

The funny guy won't be left waiting.

No dia seguinte, o policial fez o sinal para que o motorista infrator parasse.

The next day, the police officer signaled for the offending driver to stop.

O motorista atendeu prontamente e parou o veículo.

The driver promptly responded and stopped the vehicle.

Sem perder tempo, o policial logo foi dizendo,

Without wasting any time, the police officer quickly said,

Aham, bonito, hein? Até que enfim nos encontramos.

Uh-huh, nice, huh? Finally, we meet.

Por acaso o senhor sabia que já faz um bom tempo que estava aqui à sua espera?

Did you happen to know that I've been here waiting for you for quite some time?

Puxa vida, disse o policial. Sinceramente, sinto muito.

Wow, said the policeman. Honestly, I'm very sorry.

Eu juro que não sabia, só fiquei sabendo disso alguns minutos atrás.

I swear I didn't know, I only found out about this a few minutes ago.

E como o senhor mais não viu, veio mais rápido.
