E aí, para a gente começar a entender um pouco sobre as suas ações, as suas atividades,

de onde surgiu essa vontade de atuar nos movimentos climáticos?

Where did the desire to participate in climate movements come from?

Como que isso foi construído ao longo da sua carreira?

How was this built throughout your career?

Então, Camila, isso surgiu muito de um incômodo,

So, Camila, this arose much from a discomfort,

porque eu não me via nesses movimentos climáticos,

because I didn't see myself in these climate movements,

eu não me via nessas lideranças desses movimentos,

I didn't see myself in the leadership of these movements,

nenhum deles parecia comigo.

none of them looked like me.

Então, é muito difícil a gente se enxergar num local que a gente não se vê, né?

So, it's very hard for us to see ourselves in a place where we don't see ourselves, right?

E quando a gente olha para os marcadores sociais,

And when we look at social markers,

de quem são as pessoas que mais são afetadas pelas mudanças climáticas,

who are the people most affected by climate change,

são pessoas que moram à margem da sociedade,

they are people who live on the margins of society,

pessoas pretas, mulheres.

black people, women.

Aí eu parei para pensar, eu falei assim, mano,

Then I paused to think, I said, man,

sou eu!

It's me!

Eu basicamente tenho todos esses marcadores sociais,

I basically have all these social markers,

porque não são pessoas como eu que estão recebendo os impactos das mudanças climáticas,

because it's not people like me who are experiencing the impacts of climate change,

mudanças climáticas não, né?

Climate change, no?

Já são as crises, o desespero climático.

The crises and climate despair are already here.

Porque não são essas pessoas que estão à frente liderando esse movimento.

Because it is not these people who are leading this movement.

E aí, com esse incômodo de querer ter a minha voz ouvida,

So, with this discomfort of wanting my voice to be heard,

e também conseguir levar vozes de pessoas parecidas comigo,

and also manage to bring voices of people similar to me,

eu comecei a entrar mais e atuar mais nessa área de mudanças climáticas.

I started to get more involved and act more in this area of climate change.

E também ela foi se construindo, na verdade, depois da minha faculdade.

And she also built herself, in fact, after my college.

Porque na faculdade eu já sabia que o leque de engenheiro ambiental,

Because in college I already knew that the range of environmental engineer,

de atuação do engenheiro ambiental já era extremamente grande.

the scope of environmental engineering was already extremely large.

Era aquela pergunta, né?

It was that question, right?

O que faz o engenheiro ambiental?

What does an environmental engineer do?

Que até hoje...

That until today...

Eu não sei, porque a gente pode fazer de tudo desse mundo.

I don't know, because we can do anything in this world.

Então, eu vi essa oportunidade de trabalhar com as questões climáticas

So, I saw this opportunity to work on climate issues.

que não foi tanto me apresentado na minha faculdade.

that was not presented to me much in my college.

Eu vi mais questão de analista ambiental.

I saw more questions about environmental analysis.

E também um fato bacana de como eu comecei essa minha caminhada,

And also a cool fact about how I started this journey of mine,

que foi lendo um livro do Ailton Krenak,

that I was reading a book by Ailton Krenak,

que eu sou muito, muito fã dele.

that I am very, very much a fan of him.

Um dia eu espero contar essa história.

One day I hope to tell this story.

E para ele, pessoalmente, Ideias para Adiar o Fim do Mundo,

And for him, personally, Ideas to Delay the End of the World,

que é o nome do livro dele,

what is the name of his book,

ele disse sobre a nossa relação.

He talked about our relationship.

Ele falava da nossa relação com a natureza.

He was talking about our relationship with nature.

E daí me despertou uma memória infantil

And then it awakened a childhood memory in me.

de que eu tinha uma amiga no passado, e essa amiga era uma árvore.

that I had a friend in the past, and this friend was a tree.

E eu não me lembrava disso.

And I didn't remember that.

Foi depois que eu li esse livro que eu vi que eu olhava...

It was after I read this book that I realized I was looking...

Eu sempre olhei para a natureza como um continuar meu,

I have always looked at nature as a continuation of myself,

como uma sequência do que é a minha vida.

as a sequence of what my life is.

Eu não conseguia olhar a natureza como um recurso natural.

I couldn't see nature as a natural resource.

Eu sempre pensava nela como algo de continuidade da minha vida,

I always thought of her as something that continued in my life,

de quem eu sou.

of whom I belong to.

Então, daí eu posso dizer também que foi construído na minha vida

So, I can also say that it was built in my life.

essa questão de relação.

Com o meio ambiente.

With the environment.

E acabou refletindo na minha carreira também.

Porque de onde eu venho, eu também tive contato com essas questões socioambientais,

Because where I come from, I also had contact with these socio-environmental issues,

com essa questão da falta do saneamento básico,

with this issue of the lack of basic sanitation,

dessa questão de que são essas áreas que sofrem com os efeitos

about the issue of these areas that suffer from the effects

da mudança climática, da crise que a gente está entrando.

E aí, hoje, eu estou aqui para discutir sobre isso,

Porque eu sou só alguém que na infância passou por isso.

Because I am just someone who went through this in childhood.

Então, eu acho que mostra muito também que a gente tem que ampliar esses espaços

So, I think it also shows a lot that we need to expand these spaces.

para quem, de fato, já viveu esses problemas.

for those who have actually experienced these issues.

Hoje, eu não estou tão assim...

Today, I'm not feeling quite like that...

Com o tempo, a gente vai evoluindo um pouco, vai melhorando as coisas.

Over time, we gradually evolve a bit and improve things.

Mas, assim, já na infância, foi uma problemática que eu tive que conviver de perto.

But, like that, already in childhood, it was a problem I had to deal with closely.

E aí, é bem interessante a gente pensar nessas perspectivas,

So, it’s quite interesting for us to think about these perspectives,

de se enxergar nesse problema, mas hoje ter a propriedade

of seeing oneself in this problem, but today having the property

de também estar solucionando, ser uma mente pensante

of also being solved, to be a thinking mind

diante desses problemas, que geralmente nem sempre são pessoas

E é muito isso.

Quando a gente já sofreu, ou a gente continua sofrendo e passa por isso,

a gente acaba tendo essa necessidade de aprender

we end up having this need to learn

e voltar para a comunidade e ensinar e buscar mais vozes.

and return to the community to teach and seek more voices.

Porque a gente sabe que...

Because we know that...

A gente sabe que ali tem um grande potencial.

We know that there is great potential there.

E que se hoje eu estou aqui, foi por tudo que eu já passei,

And that if I am here today, it is because of everything I have been through,

pelo que eu já vivi, e pessoas que já viveram antes de mim

from what I have lived, and people who lived before me

me proporcionaram de estar aqui hoje.

they allowed me to be here today.

Até de ter essa vantagem social de ter uma internet

Even having the social advantage of having internet.

para poder estar falando aqui, estar falando mais sobre questões climáticas.

to be able to be speaking here, to be speaking more about climate issues.

Então, acho que é muito isso.

So, I think that's really it.

Quando a gente tem essa percepção de onde a gente veio,

When we have this perception of where we came from,

a gente sempre continua na mente de onde a gente veio,

we always carry in our minds where we came from,

a gente volta.

We'll be back.

E ensina que, na maioria dos casos,

And it teaches that, in most cases,

é o que realmente mais importa.

it is what really matters most.

Voltar para trás, lembrar das nossas origens

Go back, remember our origins.

e tentar mudar a realidade de todas as pessoas

and try to change the reality of all people

que vivem nessa realidade que a gente já viveu.

that live in this reality that we have already lived.

Exatamente.

Exactly.

É um compromisso de que não importa para onde a gente vá,

It is a commitment that no matter where we go,

a gente sempre tem um jeito de retornar

We always have a way to return.

e melhorar as condições iniciais de onde a gente veio.

and improve the initial conditions of where we came from.

E aí, partindo agora para um novo ponto,

And there, now moving on to a new point,

para a gente também definir e conceituar algumas questões,

for us to also define and conceptualize some issues,

para você, Izi, o que é o ativismo climático?

For you, Izi, what is climate activism?

Nossa, essa pergunta é complexa,

Wow, that question is complex.

mas eu vejo muito o ativismo climático, o ativista climático,

but I see a lot of climate activism, the climate activist,

uma pessoa que luta pelo presente.

a person who fights for the present.

A gente escuta demais, como jovem também,

We listen too much, as young people do,

que o jovem é o futuro e que a gente está lutando para o amanhã.

that youth is the future and that we are fighting for tomorrow.

Na verdade, a gente está lutando pelo hoje,

In fact, we are fighting for today,

porque a gente é jovem hoje,

because we are young today,

a gente tem energia para fazer para a mudança hoje

We have the energy to make the change today.

e a gente tem esse tempo disponível hoje

and we have this time available today

e a gente quer estar vivo hoje.

and we want to be alive today.

O amanhã é extremamente importante,

Tomorrow is extremely important,

mas o amanhã necessariamente depende do hoje.

but tomorrow necessarily depends on today.

Então, a gente tem que estar lutando pelo hoje.

So, we have to fight for today.

E eu vejo também muito o ativismo climático

And I also see a lot of climate activism.

como pessoas indignadas, sabe?

like outraged people, you know?

Que assim, igual o Gil do Bigol,

That like Gil from Bigol,

o Brasil, estou indignado!

Brazil, I am outraged!

Que vê toda essa situação que a gente está passando,

What do you see in all this situation we are going through,

essa superprodução extensiva que o nosso Brasil,

this extensive superproduction that our Brazil,

o nosso mundo, na real,

our world, really,

está vivendo, esse capitalismo destrutivo que a gente vive.

is living, this destructive capitalism that we experience.

E a gente sabe, a gente tem ciência,

And we know, we are aware,

que o nosso planeta não suporta essa vida,

that our planet cannot sustain this life,

essa vida que a gente leva não cabe mais dentro da Terra.

this life we live doesn't fit inside the Earth anymore.

E ativismo climático também,

And climate activism too,

a gente tenta levar essa consciência

we try to carry this awareness

de que não dá mais para ser assim

that it can't be like this anymore

e que a gente tem que mudar,

and that we have to change,

ou a gente muda agora, ou a gente muda agora.

Either we change now, or we change now.

Não tem meio termo.

There is no middle ground.

E a gente também pode muito levar esse ativismo climático

And we can also take this climate activism very far.

para a questão de pressionar, pressionar o governo.

to the issue of pressuring, pressuring the government.

Tem organizações muito massas

There are really cool organizations.

que fazem essa parte de ativismo climático

what do they do in this part of climate activism

de uma forma muito forte

in a very strong way

e querendo o posicionamento do governo,

and wanting the government's positioning,

como Extinction Rebellion,

like Extinction Rebellion,

que eles são ali do Reino Unido, na Inglaterra,

that they are from the United Kingdom, in England,

então eles trabalham muito forte o ativismo.

So they work very hard on activism.

E aqui no Brasil, puxando o sardinha

And here in Brazil, pulling the sardine.

para a organização que eu trabalho,

for the organization I work for,

a gente tem o Engajamundo, que também faz,

we have Engajamundo, which also does,

esse ativismo climático.

this climate activism.

E hoje em dia, a gente está pautando mais

And nowadays, we are prioritizing more.

o ativismo nas redes sociais.

social media activism.

Então, acaba que a gente usando,

So, it turns out that we end up using,

usa também as redes sociais para atingir

also uses social media to reach

as pessoas que não falam de mudanças climáticas

the people who do not talk about climate change

ou não pautam mudanças climáticas no seu dia a dia,

or do not prioritize climate change in their daily lives,

para mostrar o quanto é importante também.

to show how important it is too.

Então, o ativismo climático acaba sendo pautado

So, climate activism ends up being guided.

em várias partes, que a gente começa ali pelo ativismo,

in various parts, we start there with activism,

mas depois a gente também tem que vir com um projeto de lei,

but then we also need to come up with a bill,

pressionar projetos de lei.

press to pass bills.

Então, o ativismo climático é bem amplo

So, climate activism is quite broad.

e extremamente necessário de jovens,

it is extremely necessary for young people,

em sua maioria jovens, pelo corte que eu faço

mostly young people, by the cut I make

de Engajamundo e onde eu vivo, a minha bolha,

from Engajamundo and where I live, my bubble,

jovens que estão lutando pelo hoje,

young people who are fighting for today,

para se manter vivo hoje.

to stay alive today.

Eu acho bem interessante que você trouxe focando

I find it very interesting that you brought this up focusing.

no principal ponto, que o ativismo climático

In the main point, that climate activism

é a ação do hoje.

it is the action of today.

E é até interessante pensar nessa perspectiva,

And it's even interesting to think from this perspective,

porque lendo e estudando sobre o assunto,

because reading and studying about the subject,

querendo ou não, uma definição assim,

whether you like it or not, such a definition,

uma conclusão que a gente pode chegar,

a conclusion that we can reach,

é que o mundo por si só, ele vai se regenerar sozinho,

it's just that the world by itself will regenerate on its own,

ele vai viver sem a gente.

He will live without us.

Só que a gente está complicando as coisas para a gente mesmo.

It's just that we are complicating things for ourselves.

Então, falar de ativismo climático é falar do hoje,

So, talking about climate activism is talking about today,

falar da situação em que a gente está,

talk about the situation we are in,

mas também ser empático pela situação que outras pessoas encontram,

but also to be empathetic about the situations that other people find themselves in,

às vezes até um pouco pior que a gente,

sometimes even a little worse than us,

pensando aí que os efeitos das mudanças climáticas,

thinking that the effects of climate change,

elas estão ampliando de acordo com várias regiões do mundo

They are expanding according to various regions of the world.

e também com intensidade.

and also with intensity.

Então, assim, eu vejo que é também falar de uma questão

So, in this way, I see that it is also about addressing an issue.

enquanto grupo, enquanto união, enquanto humanidade.

as a group, as a union, as humanity.

E aí, continuando assim nessa minha linha de raciocínio,

And so, continuing in this line of thought,

de alguns pontos que eu pesquisei,

from some points that I researched,

alguns estudos comprovam que mulheres negras

some studies prove that black women

são as mais afetadas pelos efeitos das mudanças climáticas.

are the most affected by the effects of climate change.

E um outro dado que a gente tem é que em dezembro de 2020,

And another piece of information we have is that in December 2020,

o Brasil foi citado na Rede de Ação Climática Internacional

Brazil was mentioned in the International Climate Action Network.

como um país que prejudica a luta contra a mudança climática

as a country that harms the fight against climate change

ao excluir grupos indígenas desse debate.

by excluding indigenous groups from this debate.

E aí, Izvi, a gente não pode deixar de falar de mudanças climáticas

Hey, Izvi, we can't avoid talking about climate change.

sem falar sobre justiça social.

not to mention social justice.

Como você entende e avalia o atual cenário do Brasil

How do you understand and evaluate the current scenario of Brazil?

e quais desafios que você acredita que a gente tem que enfrentar

And what challenges do you believe we need to face?

para poder levar essa discussão,

in order to carry on this discussion,

para poder realizar o ativismo climático?

to be able to carry out climate activism?

Nossa, com certeza.

Wow, for sure.

É impossível não ligar uma pauta à outra.

It is impossible not to connect one agenda item to another.

Se a gente tem essa possibilidade

If we have this possibility

de não ligar a pauta social com a pauta climática,

not to connect the social agenda with the climate agenda,

a gente já vê que vive numa bolha de extremo privilégio.

We can already see that we live in a bubble of extreme privilege.

Especialmente quando você tem um marcador social,

Especially when you have a social marker,

como você trouxe da sua pesquisa,

as you brought from your research,

que mulheres pretas acabam sendo as mais afetadas

that black women end up being the most affected

pelas mudanças climáticas.

due to climate change.

Por isso é tão importante a gente ter outras vozes

That's why it's so important for us to have other voices.

pautando esses movimentos.

guiding these movements.

Porque outras vozes que têm esses marcadores,

Because other voices that have these markers,

que conseguem ter esse olhar interseccional

that can have this intersectional gaze

e enxergar a pauta climática,

and to see the climate agenda,

como uma pauta social também.

as a social agenda as well.

Porque há pouco tempo atrás,

Because a short time ago,

a gente teve a chacina do jacarezinho.

We had the massacre of Jacarezinho.

E disso todos nós lembramos,

And we all remember this,

porque foi algo que doeu muito

because it was something that hurt a lot

ver pessoas pretas sendo assassinadas

seeing black people being murdered

por onde, pelo local geográfico onde elas vivem.

through the geographical location where they live.

E a pessoa periférica não morre só de tiro,

And the peripheral person doesn't die just from a gunshot,

ela morre do descaso do governo perante esses corpos.

She dies from the government's neglect towards these bodies.

Porque elas vivem em local que não tem saneamento básico,

Because they live in an area without basic sanitation,

elas morrem de uma doença que já tem vacina.

They die from a disease that already has a vaccine.

E, cara, quando a gente fala de pandemia também,

And, man, when we talk about the pandemic too,

de onde começa uma pandemia?

Where does a pandemic begin?

Uma pandemia começa da supressão de florestas.

A pandemic begins with the suppression of forests.

E se a gente retira o habitat de animais,

What if we take away the habitat of animals,

que são, na maioria, os grandes portadores de vírus,

they are, for the most part, the major virus carriers,

que são letais para a humanidade,

that are lethal to humanity,

eles começam a migrar para a cidade.

they start to migrate to the city.

E indo para a cidade vão ter mais contato com seres humanos

And going to the city, they will have more contact with human beings.

e a gente tem essa possibilidade maior

and we have this greater possibility

de pegar um vírus deles.

from catching a virus from them.

E aí começa um novo cenário pandêmico.

And so a new pandemic scenario begins.

E a gente sabe que, nesses momentos,

And we know that, in these moments,

sempre são as pessoas mais pobres

they are always the poorest people

que acabam sofrendo mais e morrendo mais

who end up suffering more and dying more

nesse cenário pandêmico.

in this pandemic scenario.

Tanto que a gente está vendo agora isso acontecendo com o coronavírus.

So much so that we are seeing this happen now with the coronavirus.

E também são pessoas que não podem parar,

And they are also people who cannot stop,

não têm esse privilégio de parar de trabalhar

they do not have the privilege of stopping work

para cumprir uma quarentena.

to undergo a quarantine.

Porque se eles param de trabalhar, passam fome e perdem emprego.

Because if they stop working, they go hungry and lose their jobs.

E hoje a gente vê um Brasil que voltou para o mapa da fome.

And today we see a Brazil that has returned to the hunger map.

E isso é extremamente revoltante.

And that is extremely outrageous.

Então, quando a gente vê todos esses cenários,

So, when we see all these scenarios,

quem é essa pessoa que mais morre?

Who is this person that dies the most?

Quem é a pessoa que é mais pobre no Brasil,

Who is the poorest person in Brazil?

se não é a população negra?

Isn't it the Black population?

Então, tudo está ligado.

So, everything is connected.

Porque começa lá, na supressão de árvores,

Because it starts there, with the suppression of trees,

mas termina com as mesmas pessoas de sempre morrendo

but it ends with the same people as always dying

por causa de descuidado nosso.

because of our carelessness.

Então, a gente tem sempre que olhar para as questões de clima

So, we always have to look at climate issues.

pautadas com as questões sociais também.

guided by social issues as well.

Porque acaba que isso gera uma cadeia de problemas

Because it ends up creating a chain of problems.

que estão todos interligados.

that are all interconnected.

E essa galera do ativismo ambiental

And this crowd of environmental activism

tem que começar também a ter noção sobre isso

You also have to start being aware of this.

e começar a pautar sobre isso.

and start to set the agenda on that.

Porque não tem como falar de clima

Because there's no way to talk about the weather.

sem falar do lado social também.

not to mention the social aspect as well.

Nossa, eu acredito que, assim,

Wow, I believe that, like,

ao longo dessa fala,

throughout this speech,

quando você foi explanando os cenários que a gente se encontra,

when you were explaining the scenarios we find ourselves in,

que influencia na questão da forma que as pessoas estão vivendo,

that influences the way people are living,

a sua moradia, se estão tendo acesso à moradia,

your housing, if they are accessing the housing,

acesso à alimentação,

access to food,

que envolve toda uma estrutura do bem-estar da população.

that involves a whole structure of the population's well-being.

Eu só consigo resumir que a principal energia

I can only summarize that the main energy

que a gente acaba tendo, às vezes,

that we end up having, sometimes,

para se portar dessa forma,

to behave this way,

para se colocar como ativista,

to position oneself as an activist,

acaba sendo o ódio, acaba sendo a raiva,

it ends up being hate, it ends up being anger,

de entender essa situação,

to understand this situation,

de entender o que é que a gente passa,

to understand what we go through,

de ver que quem tem que tomar as decisões

to see that those who have to make the decisions

não toma as decisões.

doesn't make the decisions.

Então, aí, a gente acaba tomando um pouco dessa responsabilidade
