Hoje, vamos ouvir a história de Lea Peck, artista plástica de Açailândia Maranhão.

Today, we will hear the story of Lea Peck, a visual artist from Açailândia, Maranhão.

Oi, meu nome é Leone de Souza, artisticamente conhecido como Lea Peck.

Hi, my name is Leone de Souza, artistically known as Lea Peck.

Eu tenho 22 anos de idade e tenho como trabalho artes plásticas e visuais.

I am 22 years old and I work in visual and plastic arts.

Eu nasci em Açailândia, eu comecei a pintar e desenhar quando eu tinha uns 12,

I was born in Açailândia, I started painting and drawing when I was about 12.

mas quando eu realmente comecei a gostar foi no ano de 2015, principalmente de pintura,

but when I really started to like it was in 2015, mainly painting,

porque antes eu trabalhava apenas com tinta nanquim, no caso, desenho preto e branco.

Because before I only worked with ink, in this case, black and white drawing.

Aí depois eu tive contato com a tinta óleo, aí eu comecei a trabalhar com telas,

Then later I came into contact with oil paint, and I started working with canvases.

e só nesse ano de 2020 que eu tive contato com o Moraes, que foi pelo projeto Arte em Cores.

It was only in this year of 2020 that I had contact with Moraes, which was through the project Art in Colors.

Diferente do imaginário que costumamos ter do artista,

Unlike the imagery we usually have of the artist,

onde ele olha para a tela em branco e pensa profundamente sobre o que quer pintar,

where he looks at the blank canvas and thinks deeply about what he wants to paint,

Lea nos conta que não pensa muito sobre o que significa seus desenhos.

Lea tells us that she doesn't think much about what her drawings mean.

A vontade de pintar vem para ela de forma aleatória.

The desire to paint comes to her randomly.

Pelo menos no meu processo criativo, as minhas vantagens de pintar, desenhar, vêm aleatoriamente.

At least in my creative process, my advantages of painting and drawing come randomly.

Assim, eu descrevo...

Thus, I describe...

Pelo menos no meu estilo artístico, aleatório.

At least in my artistic style, random.

Não crio algo com significado ou que tenha uma história.

I don't create something with meaning or that has a story.

É muito difícil eu criar história através do que eu pinto.

It's very difficult for me to create a story through what I paint.

Então, a gente tem uma frase que a gente usa na arte,

So, we have a phrase that we use in art,

que a gente faz a arte para as pessoas criarem a história.

that we create art for people to create the story.

E uma forma de identificar as minhas artes são as figuras geométricas.

A way to identify my artworks is through geometric shapes.

Pelo menos nas minhas telas em Moraes eu sempre tento deixar bem clara a minha identidade com figuras geométricas.

At least in my screens in Moraes, I always try to make my identity clear with geometric shapes.

Já faz parte dos meus traços.

It is already part of my traits.

Eu não sei de onde que surgiu isso, mas realmente eu tento encaixar em todas as obras de arte.

I don't know where this came from, but I really try to fit it into all the works of art.

Porque à medida que a gente está disposto a criar qualquer coisa.

Because as we are willing to create anything.

Criar coisas aleatórias que não fazem sentido é uma coisa que todo artista sabe fazer muito bem.

Creating random things that don't make sense is something every artist knows how to do very well.

Mas o processo criativo é difícil de explicar, porque essas são coisas que a gente vai rabiscando, sabe?

But the creative process is difficult to explain because these are things that we sketch out, you know?

No final, a gente cria uma coisa...

In the end, we create something...

Às vezes até a gente é difícil de interpretar, mas a gente acha que ficou muito interessante.

Sometimes it's even difficult for us to interpret, but we think it turned out really interesting.

Mesmo que seja difícil para as outras pessoas entenderem o que a gente colocou ali.

Even if it's difficult for other people to understand what we put there.

Sendo um desenho em telas, Moraes.

Being a drawing on canvases, Moraes.

É como eu disse no começo.

It's like I said at the beginning.

A gente tem um processo criativo.

We have a creative process.

A gente põe isso no papel ou na tela.

We put this on paper or on the screen.

Mas quem está vendo tem um pensamento totalmente diferente do que a gente criou.

But those who are watching have a completely different thought from what we created.

Dez obras de arte espalhadas pela cidade.

Ten works of art scattered throughout the city.

Cinco delas sendo Moraes.

Five of them being Moraes.

Ela descreve agora a sua obra preferida.

She is now describing her favorite work.

Eu tenho uma tela chamada Sobrevivente.

I have a screen called Survivor.

Que eu acho que é uma das minhas únicas obras que realmente tem um significado por trás.

I think it's one of my only works that really has a meaning behind it.

Que é a tela que me fez criar o projeto Arte em Cores.

What is the screen that made me create the project Art in Colors.

Nela sim tem uma história por trás que eu acho muito bacana.

There is indeed a story behind it that I find very cool.

Porque se passa por um período muito difícil do ano de 2020.

Because it is going through a very difficult period in the year 2020.

Então acho que é uma das minhas...

So I think it's one of mine...

Umas das minhas obras favoritas, com certeza.

One of my favorite works, for sure.

Na tela Sobrevivente, que foi destinada para o projeto Arte em Cores.

On the Survivor screen, which was designated for the Art in Colors project.

Eu tinha que criar algo que fosse atualidade.

I had to create something that was current.

E a tela foi feita no ano de 2020.

And the painting was made in the year 2020.

Onde Pantanal estava passando por um período de desmatamento.

Where Pantanal was going through a period of deforestation.

Muitas queimadas.

Many wildfires.

E eu peguei...

And I took...

Pesquisei bastante sobre o local.

I researched a lot about the place.

Tipo, eu já não sabia muito bem o que fazer.

Like, I didn't really know what to do anymore.

E tudo que passava no jornal era isso.

And everything that was in the newspaper was this.

Então, tá.

Alright then.

Eu vou retratar isso na minha tela.

I will portray this on my canvas.

Então, eu peguei a ave símbolo do Pantanal.

So, I got the bird symbol of the Pantanal.

Que é o pássaro-twin.

What is the twin bird?

Então eu coloquei ele como centro da tela.

So I placed it in the center of the screen.

Eu peguei a paisagem.

I took the landscape.

Quer dizer, eu mostrei o cenário de fogos.

I mean, I showed the fireworks scene.

Com árvores queimadas.

With burned trees.

E o pássaro-twin em fuga do local.

And the twin bird escaping from the location.

Com alimento na boca.

With food in the mouth.

A tela tem várias técnicas nisso.

The canvas has several techniques in it.

Tem tinta spray.

There is spray paint.

Tem tinta acrílica.

There is acrylic paint.

Tem tinta óleo.

There is oil paint.

Tem uma mistura de tudo, eu acho.

There's a mix of everything, I think.

Mas a tela retrata isso.

But the screen depicts this.

O pássaro-twin em fuga das queimadas do ano de 2020.

The twin bird fleeing from the wildfires of 2020.

A pandemia representou, se não um fim, uma pausa gigantesca no trabalho da maioria dos artistas do mundo inteiro.

The pandemic represented, if not an end, a gigantic pause in the work of most artists around the world.

Mas Léa começou a se divertir.

But Léa started to have fun.

Mas Léa começou a vender seu trabalho em 2020.

But Léa started selling her work in 2020.

A pandemia acabou abrindo as portas para que ela pudesse viver de arte.

The pandemic ended up opening the doors for her to be able to live off art.

A pandemia não me afetou nessa questão de arte.

The pandemic did not affect me in this matter of art.

Na verdade, ajudou bastante porque...

In fact, it helped a lot because...

Eu não sei como explicar isso, mas na pandemia vários negócios começaram a abrir.

I don't know how to explain this, but during the pandemic, several businesses started to open.

Então muita gente costumava chamar pra pintar uma hamburgueria.

So many people used to call to paint a hamburger restaurant.

Um bar.

A bar.

Então não me afetou, na verdade.

So it didn't affect me, actually.

Foi pelo contrário.

It was the opposite.

O negócio é você pesquisar.

The thing is for you to research.

A gente teve leis do Aldeblanc que deu bastante dinheiro.

We had Aldeblanc laws that provided a lot of money.

Teve projetos.

There were projects.

Então, na verdade, foi bom pra mim.

So, actually, it was good for me.

Atualmente a arte é minha fonte de renda.

Currently, art is my source of income.

Começou em 2020, na verdade, que eu comecei a investir mais.

It actually started in 2020 when I began to invest more.

E também depois que eu comecei a investir em questão de fazer com que as pessoas conhecessem o trabalho.

And also after I started investing in making people aware of the work.

Então o meu público-alvo...

So my target audience...

São as pessoas mais que estão abrindo novos negócios.

It is the people who are starting new businesses.

Que querem um lugar mais divertido dentro de casa.

They want a more fun place inside the house.

Algo mais colorido que traga uma vibe boa.

Something more colorful that brings a good vibe.

Então a arte na minha vida hoje em dia é minha fonte de renda.

So art in my life nowadays is my source of income.

Bom, foi no ano de 2020 que eu comecei realmente a investir em arte.

Well, it was in the year 2020 that I really started to invest in art.

Mas anteriormente eu não trabalhava.

But previously I didn't work.

Não era muito a fundo da arte.

It wasn't very deep in art.

Eu trabalhava de freelance como bartender.

I worked as a freelance bartender.

O que me incentivou realmente foi o projeto Arte em Cores.

What really motivated me was the Art in Colors project.

Abriu a minha mente de que era aquilo que eu gostava.

It opened my mind to what I liked.

Então eu só comecei a investir e procurar mais trabalhos assim.

So I just started to invest and look for more jobs like that.

Viabilizado pela Lei de Incentivo à Cultura e patrocinado pela Vale do Rio Doce.

Que distribuiu 75 mil reais para 50 artistas selecionados de 15 municípios do Pará e do Maranhão.

That distributed 75 thousand reais to 50 selected artists from 15 municipalities in Pará and Maranhão.

E produziu, com cinco dos finalistas, um painel público no terminal rodoviário da cidade de Açailândia.

And produced, with five of the finalists, a public panel at the bus terminal in the city of Açailândia.

Em dezembro de 2020.

Ela conta agora como foi participar do projeto.

She now shares how it was to participate in the project.

O processo do Arte em Cores.

The process of Art in Colors.

Primeiramente eu fiquei sabendo da inscrição pelo Instagram.

First, I learned about the registration through Instagram.

Como a publicação foi promovida eu consegui ver.

Since the publication was promoted, I was able to see it.

Já que eu seguia muitos temas de arte.

Since I followed many art themes.

E foi simples a inscrição.

The registration was simple.

Eu tive que enviar umas obras minhas que eu já tinha feito antes.

I had to send some of my works that I had done before.

E na primeira seleção.

And in the first selection.

Eu fiz a minha inscrição.

I registered.

Mas eu não tinha tanta esperança.

But I didn't have that much hope.

Porque eu sabia que tinha muita gente boa.

Because I knew there were many good people.

E a gente estava falando de dois estados.

And we were talking about two states.

Pará e Maranhão.

Pará and Maranhão.

Que tem muito artista bom.

There are many great artists.

Eu passei na primeira fase.

I passed the first phase.

E nessa primeira fase a gente tinha que fazer uma tela enorme.

And in this first phase we had to make a huge screen.

E entregar para eles em 15 dias.

And deliver it to them in 15 days.

E nesses 15 dias eu fiz a minha super preocupada.

And in those 15 days, I made my super worried.

Porque eu usei o material errado na tinta óleo.

Because I used the wrong material for the oil paint.

Em vez de secante.

Instead of a dryer.

Eu usei um produto que retardava.

I used a product that delayed.

Mas deu tudo certo no final.

But everything turned out fine in the end.

Então eu entreguei a minha obra.

So I submitted my work.

E depois de alguns dias a gente recebeu o resultado final.

And after a few days we received the final result.

Ela foi a única mulher do projeto do Maranhão a passar.

She was the only woman from the Maranhão project to pass.

Eu fiquei muito feliz.

I was very happy.

Porque tinha passado mais quatro homens do Maranhão.

Because four more men from Maranhão had passed.

Mas só eu de mulher.

But only me as a woman.

E depois disso a gente.

And after that, we.

Esperou a fase dos murais.

He waited for the mural phase.

E nos murais.

And on the murals.

O mural eu chamo de conjunto de emoções.

I call the mural a collection of emotions.

Porque como é na rodoviária.

Because it's the same as in the bus station.

Lá passa um público.

There goes an audience.

Gente que está se despedindo.

People who are saying goodbye.

Gente que está.

People who are.

Faltando.

Missing.

Gente triste.

Sad people.

Gente bêbada.

Drunk people.

Ali tem de tudo.

There is everything there.

Então eu queria retratar isso.

So I wanted to portray that.

E também para chamar a atenção das crianças.

And also to grab the children's attention.

Eu coloquei umas.

I put some.

Animações sabe.

Animations you know.

Coisas bem mais infantis.

Things much more childish.

Mas foi isso.

But that was it.

A última etapa do projeto foi o mural.

The final stage of the project was the mural.

Onde.

Where.

Fez eu conhecer artistas incríveis.

It made me meet incredible artists.

Nunca vou esquecer a experiência.

I will never forget the experience.

Foi muito acolhedora.

It was very welcoming.

A grande dificuldade dos artistas visuais.

The great difficulty of visual artists.

É precificar sua arte.

It's about pricing your art.

Embora leve muito tempo, materiais e esforço.

Although it takes a lot of time, materials, and effort.

As pessoas costumam não pagar um preço que julgam alto demais.

People tend not to pay a price they consider too high.

E Léa acaba perdendo clientes por isso.

And Léa ends up losing clients because of it.

A parte do orçamento.

The budget part.

Na arte.

In art.

É uma parte.

It's a part.

Muito delicada.

Very delicate.

Porque.

Why.

Sabe.

You know.

A arte.

The art.

Mesmo sendo uma coisa maravilhosa.

Even being a wonderful thing.

As pessoas desvalorizam bastante.

People undervalue a lot.

Então.

So.

Eu coloco preço.

I set the price.

Depende se for.

It depends if it is.

Rurais.

Rural.

Por exemplo.

Depende de como é a parede.

It depends on what the wall is like.

Do tamanho.

Of the size.

Os tipos de material que vai pegar.

E todo mundo ignorou o projeto

E eu fiquei tipo
