Fomos vizinhos de infância, jogamos muito futebol junto.

We were childhood neighbors, we played a lot of soccer together.

Damos skate, fizemos muita coisa aí durante a nossa adolescência.

We skateboarded, we did a lot of things during our teenage years.

E hoje em dia eu moro na Nova Zelândia, já fazem 20 anos.

And nowadays I live in New Zealand, it has been 20 years.

Eu tenho meu trabalho aqui de tester, já fazem 10 anos que eu estou nessa profissão, mais ou menos.

I have my job here as a tester, I've been in this profession for about 10 years.

E eu tenho uma família aqui, tenho uma filha de 3 anos.

And I have a family here, I have a 3-year-old daughter.

Então, é, mais ou menos por aí.

Eu passei metade da minha vida no Brasil e metade na Nova Zelândia, quase.

Não estamos morando fora do Brasil do que no Brasil.

We are not living outside of Brazil more than in Brazil.

Então, em 2004, eu tinha um amigo, né?

E jogaram futebol aqui.

E daí, eu e ele começamos a arquitetar essa bolada.

Acreditei que fosse materializar em eu vindo morar no exterior, na verdade.

I believed it would materialize in me moving to live abroad, actually.

Porque no Brasil, como tu sabe, tu termina o colégio.

Because in Brazil, as you know, you finish school.

Tu ainda, geralmente, é um dependente dos teus pais, né?

You still typically depend on your parents, right?

Em termos financeiramente e de estadia, né?

In financial and accommodation terms, right?

Então, se teus pais derem um ok, tu tem chance de fazer alguma coisa.

So, if your parents give a thumbs up, you have a chance to do something.

Se eles disserem não, teu sonho morre ali, né?

If they say no, your dream dies right there, doesn't it?

Mas, pra mim, então, foi uma...

But for me, then, it was a...

Então, a ideia surgiu através desse amigo, né?

So, the idea came about through this friend, right?

Mas aí, a gente pegou e conversou com outro amigo que falava inglês.

E daí, ele nos ajudou a escrever uns e-mails e tal.

And then, he helped us write some emails and stuff.

A gente mandou um monte de e-mail pra time de futebol na Nova Zelândia.

We sent a bunch of emails to the soccer team in New Zealand.

E daí, acabou que um desses clubes se interessou em, tipo, nos ajudar a migrar pra cá, né?

So, it turned out that one of those clubs was interested in, like, helping us move here, right?

Pra jogar.

To play.

E daí, tipo, mais ou menos assim, o acordo foi assim.

And then, like, more or less like this, the agreement was like this.

Ele falou, ah...

He said, ah...

Aí, tipo...

There, like...

A gente te recebe no aeroporto.

We'll pick you up at the airport.

A gente paga três meses de acomodação e comida pra vocês e tal.

We pay for three months of accommodation and food for you guys and stuff.

Pra vir jogar.

To come play.

Futebol aqui não é profissional, etc.

Football here is not professional, etc.

Mas a gente ajuda.

But we help.

Futebol de salão, futebol sete, futebol onze.

Assim, no começo, a gente veio, assim, e deu aula de futebol e tal.

Mas era um trabalho bem part-time, assim.

But it was quite a part-time job, like that.

Era, tipo, sei lá, dez horas por semana.

It was, like, I don't know, ten hours a week.

Meio que ajudei a começar, assim, o futsal na Nova Zelândia.

O futsal começou a ficar mais forte quando a gente estabeleceu uma liga aqui em Wellington.

Futsal started to gain strength when we established a league here in Wellington.

Montou um time e começou a competir.

He assembled a team and started competing.

Esqueci de dizer antes, mas abriu diversas portas pra mim, né?

E isso é uma coisa que eu sou muito grato de ter praticado minha vida inteira.

Eu tinha visto o trabalho, depois eu consegui minha residência pra morar na Nova Zelândia.

E o próximo passo é a cidadania.

And the next step is citizenship.

E como eu jogava futsal nessa época e tava jogando a Liga Nacional da Nova Zelândia,

And since I was playing futsal at that time and was playing in the National League of New Zealand,

a New Zealand Football, que é a confederação de futebol da Nova Zelândia,

New Zealand Football, which is the football confederation of New Zealand,

queria que eu me naturalizasse.

I wanted me to become naturalized.

Pra poder jogar pela Seleção da Nova Zelândia.

To be able to play for the New Zealand National Team.

E eles me ajudaram com minha aplicação pra conseguir minha cidadania e tal.

And they helped me with my application to get my citizenship and such.

Deram todo o suporte de documentação e tal.

They provided all the documentation support and such.

Então eu me tornei neozelandês em 2007.

So I became a New Zealander in 2007.

Foi 2008.

It was 2008.

Em 2008 eu consegui meu passaporte neozelandês.

In 2008, I obtained my New Zealand passport.

E daí, a partir de então, virei um cidadão.

And then, from that moment on, I became a citizen.

E nesse momento tu já tá...

You know that in Brazil, you grow up knowing that you have to go to college, right?

Então, tá meio inserido dentro...

Então, eu fiz comércio exterior, na verdade.

So, I studied foreign trade, actually.

Tá lá o professor num auditório com, sei lá, 300 estudantes lá, que tu nem imagina quem são.

There’s the teacher in an auditorium with, I don’t know, 300 students there, who you can’t even imagine who they are.

Cada um estudando uma coisa diferente.

Each one studying something different.

Então, eu achei bem diferente, assim, pra mim, né?

So, I found it quite different, like, for me, you know?

Cada um estudando cursos diferentes.

Que precisavam daquela disciplina, por exemplo.

That they needed that discipline, for example.

Então, eu tava estudando administração ali, então tinha gente estudando direito,

tinha gente estudando outras coisas ali que não eram necessariamente tão...

Foi uma experiência bem diferente.

Eu tive essa experiência na PUC por fazer administração de empresas,

I had this experience at PUC for studying business administration,

que é um curso que aborda disciplinas de várias outras faculdades, né?

It's a course that covers subjects from various other colleges, right?

Então, eu tive cadeira de matemática, estatística, onde eu fazia aula na faculdade de matemática.

So, I took classes in mathematics, statistics, where I attended the mathematics college.

Eu tive cadeiras de engenharia, onde eu fazia aula na faculdade de engenharia.

I took engineering classes, where I attended engineering school.

Eu tive cadeiras de informática e computação, que eu fazia na faculdade de computação.

I took computer science and computing courses while I was in computer college.

É um pouco dessa experiência, assim, de estudar com pessoas que não eram meus colegas de administração de empresas, sabe?
