Aí teve um dia que eu ouvi uma pessoa que trabalhou comigo, porque eu também tive a minha fase professora de inglês, né?

There was a day when I heard someone who worked with me because I also went through my phase as an English teacher, right?

Eu dei aula de inglês no seu LEP.

Por bastante tempo, comecei lá com 17 anos, fiquei lá até uns 27, mais ou menos, eu acho, mais ou menos isso.

For quite a while, I started there when I was 17, I stayed there until I was about 27, more or less, I think, something like that.

E tem bastante gente da interpretação que era de lá que a gente acabou se encontrando de novo, depois, enfim, a Lívia, a Laila, bastante gente.

And there are quite a few people from the interpretation who we ended up meeting again, later on, well, Lívia, Laila, quite a few people.

Enfim, eu me lembro que tinha uma ou outra pessoa de lá que tinha feito um tal de um curso de tradução da Alumni.

Anyway, I remember there was one or two people from there who had taken some kind of translation course from Alumni.

Mas eu nunca tinha parado para pensar em tradução como...

But I had never stopped to think of translation as...

Mas eu lembro que falavam que era um curso muito difícil, um curso muito, enfim, desafiador, mas que era super interessante, enfim.

But I remember they said it was a very difficult course, a very, well, challenging course, but it was super interesting, you know.

Nunca mais, assim, passou bastante tempo, alguém falou de novo.

Never again, quite some time passed, and someone spoke again.

E aí eu já estava mais nessa fase de realmente, sim, eu preciso encontrar o meu plano B.

So by then I was already in that phase of really, yes, I need to find my plan B.

E aí quando falaram isso, eu falei assim, gente, será que é esse o caminho?

And then when they said that, I thought, guys, is this really the way?

Será? Vou tentar? Não vou tentar?

E fui, resolvi que eu ia tentar, vi que tinha que fazer um teste para entrar, foi muito engraçado porque eu cheguei para fazer o teste.

And I went, I decided that I was going to try, I saw that I had to take a test to get in, it was very funny because I showed up to take the test.

E quem foi me fazer o teste era o Jaime, que tinha dado aula comigo no seu LEP bastante tempo, né?

And who did the test for me was Jaime, who had taught with me in his LEP a long time ago, right?

E aí, enfim, era um curso para o qual eu precisava me dedicar bastante.

So, finally, it was a course that I needed to dedicate myself to a lot.

E então eu tive, assim, eu agradeço muito, assim.

Vários apoios que eu tive para naquela época poder fazer isso.

Several supports I had to be able to do that at that time.

Mas eu entrei no curso sem nunca ter traduzido uma linha na minha vida.

But I started the course without ever having translated a line in my life.

E sem sonhar que eu pudesse ser intérprete, acho que eu não sabia nem direito o que isso seria.

And without dreaming that I could be an interpreter, I don't think I even really knew what that would be.

Então, eu não sou daquela, assim, que foi fazendo, foi traduzindo, foi interpretando e depois ou foi estudar um pouco ou nunca estudou e aprendeu na raça.

So, I'm not the kind of person who just went on translating, interpreting, and then either went to study a bit or never studied and learned the hard way.

Não, eu nunca tinha traduzido.

No, I had never translated before.

Eu nunca tinha traduzido uma linha.

I had never translated a line.

E eu fiz o curso e eu me apaixonei.

And I took the course and I fell in love.

E eu tive aquela tal sensação que eu te falei que eu nunca tinha tido.

And I had that feeling I told you I had never had before.

Isso eu acho que eu sei fazer bem.

I think I can do that well.

Isso eu acho que eu posso, sabe, ter aquele tipo de satisfação e de reconhecimento que, enfim, eu não tinha antes e também não queria ter.

I think I can have that kind of satisfaction and recognition that I didn't have before and also didn't want to have.

E assim foi.

And so it was.

E eu me formei e as coisas, graças a Deus, aconteceram.

And I graduated and things, thank God, happened.

Com uma certa rapidez, as coisas deram bastante certo para mim.

With a certain quickness, things turned out quite well for me.

Eu conheci pessoas, assim, que foram fundamentais, que me abriram muitas portas desde cedo.

I met people like that who were fundamental and opened many doors for me from an early age.

Tem uma outra colega, Karina Flosi, que eu digo que a gente virou intérprete juntas, né?

Porque a gente fez alumnes juntas, enfim.

Because we made students together, anyway.

O curso inteiro, quando a gente saiu, a primeira cabine que a gente entrou na vida foram as duas juntas malucas, sem ter noção do que estavam fazendo.

Olha, naquela época, a gente, começando, a gente trabalhava para agência.

E era uma época que, economicamente falando também, o país estava fervendo.

A gente trabalhava todo dia, quase todo dia.

Então, nossa, naquela época, eu acho que eu fiz evento desde, sei lá, de banco de órgãos até, sei lá, ligas metálicas.

mas também, assim, me ajudaram muito, me deram, assim, muita experiência, muita base para ter, para ganhar, realmente, assim, ritmo,

but also, they helped me a lot, they gave me, like, a lot of experience, a strong foundation to have, to gain, really, like, rhythm,

para ganhar prática, para ganhar tudo, eu trabalhei muito.

To gain practice, to gain everything, I worked hard.

Mas você diz de trabalhar para as agências e tem, claro, a questão financeira, que, obviamente, a agência tem que ganhar a parte dela.

Mas o que você vê de dificuldade ao trabalhar para uma agência?

Olha, eu acho, como eu te falei, assim, faz bastante tempo que eu não trabalho.

Eu não trabalho com nenhuma agência no Brasil.

I don't work with any agency in Brazil.

Mas eu acho que as agências para as quais eu trabalhei, elas sempre foram muito corretas comigo.

But I think the agencies I worked for have always been very fair with me.

Eu sabia que elas estavam ficando com um X do contratado e, óbvio, isso fazia parte do jogo, mas eu, mas eram agências que pagavam decentemente para as que eram as agências da época, não é?

I knew they were hooking up with a contract X, and obviously, that was part of the game, but I mean, these were agencies that paid decently for what were the agencies of the time, right?

Acho que a dificuldade que algumas pessoas podem enfrentar é quando, assim, acabam trombando pelo caminho com agências que realmente, assim, não são aquelas agências que pensam no curto prazo, que vão querer explorar o intérprete ou o tradutor, enfim, o máximo possível.

I think the difficulty some people may face is when they end up coming across agencies that really aren't those agencies that think about the short term, that will want to exploit the interpreter or translator as much as possible.

Porque também, assim, ah, na hora que você se cansar de mim, que você não quiser mais, vai ter um próximo que vai vir e que eu vou explorar por mais seis meses e vamos lá.

Because also, like, ah, at the moment you get tired of me, when you no longer want me, there will be someone else who will come and I will explore for another six months and there we go.

E tem gente que está começando, não consegue se dar muito o luxo de falar não para algumas oportunidades, né?

And there are people who are just starting out, and they can't really afford to say no to some opportunities, right?

Por menos, enfim, ideais que elas sejam, muitas pessoas acabam aceitando e com isso eu quero dizer o seguinte, eu acho que o maior problema de trabalhar para agências é você se deparar com agências que não são corretas.

Ultimately, for all their ideals, many people end up accepting them, and what I want to say with this is that I think the biggest problem of working for agencies is encountering agencies that are not ethical.

Porque a agência querer ganhar uma parte, enfim, é business, né?

Mas a agência trabalhar, sabe, querer forçar situações de, por exemplo, colocar uma pessoa que não é qualificada para fazer um determinado tipo de evento ou fazer essas coisas, assim, de contratar alguém por nada ou quase nada, mas porque vai ter alguém com um pouco mais de experiência na cabine para segurar a onda um pouco e pagando as pessoas, pagando os dois colegas tarifas diferentes, o que, enfim, para a gente é um não total, não é?

But the agency works, you know, wanting to force situations, for example, placing someone who is not qualified to carry out a certain type of event or doing things like hiring someone for nothing or almost nothing, but because there will be someone with a bit more experience in the booth to hold things together a bit and paying the people, paying the two colleagues different rates, which, well, for us is a total no, right?

No Brasil eu não sei de agências que contratem intérpretes que eu realmente não sei se elas estão por aí no mercado ainda atuando num nível legal, mas no exterior é assim, não é?

In Brazil, I don't know of agencies that hire interpreters; I really don't know if they are still out there in the market operating at a legal level, but abroad it's like that, isn't it?
