Это такой особый православный монастырь,

This is such a special Orthodox monastery,

который является центром духовной жизни для православной страны.

which is the center of spiritual life for an Orthodox country.

Вообще на территории Белоруссии, Украины и России всего пять лавр.

In fact, there are only five lavras in the territory of Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia.

Это, конечно, самая древняя, самая почитаемая Киево-Печорская лавра,

This is, of course, the oldest and most revered Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra,

потом Почаевская, Троица-Сергиевая лавра под Москвой,

then Pochaev Lavra, Trinity-Sergius Lavra near Moscow,

Еще 18 лет назад мы снимали фильм про Светогорскую лавру.

Eighteen years ago, we were filming a movie about the Svyatogorsk Lavra.

Назвали его «Монастырь».

They called it "Monastery."

Тогда мы не догадывались, какое будущее будет у этого легендарного монастыря.

At that time, we had no idea what the future held for this legendary monastery.

Восьмом веке Византии началась борьба с почитанием православных икон.

In the eighth century, Byzantium began the struggle against the veneration of Orthodox icons.

И многие монахи уходили от преследования властей Кесаря на север.

And many monks fled from the persecution of the authorities of Caesar to the north.

Они стали рыть пещеры в этих меловых горах.

They started to dig caves in these chalk mountains.

Со временем получилось так, что вся гора была пронизана ходами.

Подземные кельи и храмы занимали пять ярусов.

Светогорский монастырь стоял на границе владений сначала Киевской, а потом Московской Руси.

Эти традиции сохранились и сейчас.

Здесь присутствует почти воинская дисциплина.

Монахам запрещено безблагословение.

Monks are forbidden without a blessing.

Показывать свои лица, общаться с посторонними.

Show their faces, communicate with strangers.

Ничто мирское не должно отвлекать их от молитв и духовной борьбы.

Nothing worldly should distract them from prayers and spiritual struggle.

Пещеры копали иноки, искавшие место для большего уединения, чтобы предаваться одной только молитве.

The caves were dug by monks seeking a place for greater solitude to devote themselves solely to prayer.

Там царит безмолвие и ничто не отвлекает.

There is silence reigning there, and nothing distracts.

В одной из таких пещер 17-й год.

In one of those caves, it's the year 1917.

18 лет провел в затворе отец Иоанн.

Father Ioann spent 18 years in confinement.

В темной пещерке среди меловой святогорской скалы Иересхимонах Иоанн мужественно боролся со всеми искушениями.

In the dark little cave among the chalky Svyatogorsk rock, Hieromonk John bravely struggled with all temptations.

Спал он в веригах на соломе в гробу.

He slept in chains on straw in a coffin.

Пост был образом, а молитва Богу – смыслом его жизни.

The fast was the image, and prayer to God was the meaning of his life.

За такой подвиг его Господь прослал таким особым даром.

For such a feat, the Lord rewarded him with a special gift.

Прозрение судеб тех людей, которые приходили к нему для получения совета в их жизни.

The insight into the fates of those people who came to him for advice in their lives.

Многие, которые опросили молитвы об исцелении болезни, те получали здравие по молитвам преподобного затворника.

Many who asked for prayers for healing of illness received healing through the prayers of the venerable hermit.

Спустя 150 лет в святогорской лавре почитают и славят святого Иоанна Затворника.

After 150 years, the Svyatogorsk Lavra venerates and praises Saint John of the Cloister.

Его мощи находятся здесь, в деревянном ковчеге.

His relics are here, in a wooden ark.

В честь него 24 августа установлен большой церковный праздник.

In his honor, a big church holiday is established on August 24.

Тысячи людей из России и Украины приезжают сюда специально, чтобы крестным ходом отметить духовный подвиг Иоанна Затворника.

Thousands of people from Russia and Ukraine come here specifically to commemorate the spiritual feat of St. John of the Ladder with a procession.

Перед праздником преподобного Иоанна Затворника мы провели ночь во дворе Лавры.

Before the feast of Saint John of the Ladder, we spent the night in the courtyard of the Lavra.

Удивительные вещи рассказывали нам простые люди.

Ordinary people told us amazing things.

А вот вы к утру готовитесь, а во сколько это утром будет?

But you are preparing for the morning, but what time will it be in the morning?

В 6 утра.

At 6 a.m.

И вы будете так всю ночь сидеть?

And will you be sitting like this all night?

Ну и что?

So what?

Это радость людям.

It is joy for people.

Я езжу сюда уже четвертый год.

I have been coming here for four years.

И так раз-два в месяц, когда...

So, once or twice a month, when...

Душа надо подпишется.

The soul needs to be signed.

Питаться благодатью, покоем, любовью, терпением.

To nourish oneself with grace, peace, love, and patience.

Отсюда, когда уезжаешь, приезжает в мир, никто не может тебя вывести из себя, что бы ни происходило вокруг.

From here, when you leave, you enter the world, and no one can get you worked up, no matter what happens around you.

Ты не раздражаешься, ты всех любишь, всех жалко.

You don't get angry, you love everyone, you feel sorry for everyone.

Слава Богу, что нас тут принимают.

Thank God that we are welcomed here.

И как из чудовищ делают людьми.

And how monsters are turned into humans.

По крайней мере, как старцы говорят, что человек, когда рождается,

At least, as the elders say, when a person is born,

у него есть...

У него есть его лик, потом лицо, а потом становится рожа.

He has his visage, then his face, and then it becomes a mug.

Знаешь, так вот, хотя бы и рожа, чтоб лицо стало уже далеко дорасти.

You know, at least the face should be grown up a bit more.

Это уровень духовности очень большой.

This level of spirituality is very high.

Ну хотя бы лицо обрести свое, то есть свое человеческое, ясное достоинство.

Well, at least to regain one's face, that is, one's human, clear dignity.

И правильное понятие о себе, о людях и о мире, в котором живем.

And the correct understanding of oneself, of people, and of the world we live in.

Дальнее утро. Паломники до начала службы молятся во дворе монастыря.

А дети спят. Надо набраться сил перед праздником.

And the children are sleeping. We need to gather strength before the holiday.

Но были и другие времена, когда монастырь был домом отдыха.

But there were also other times when the monastery was a place of relaxation.

Еще в 1903 году, до катастрофы 1917 года,

As early as 1903, before the catastrophe of 1917,

к одному старцу подошли святогорские монахи и спросили,

One day, the monks of Saint Athos approached an elder and asked,

можно мы вон на той горе построим церковь?

Can we build a church on that mountain over there?

На что старец ответил им, храм не вижу, а железного человека вижу.

To which the elder replied, "I do not see the temple, but I see an iron man."

И действительно, в 1927 году советский скульптор Иван Кавалеридзе

And indeed, in 1927, the Soviet sculptor Ivan Kavaleridze...

установил на горе памятник большевику Артему.

A monument to the Bolshevik Artem was erected on the mountain.

Это был 154-й памятник железному человеку.

This was the 154th monument to the Iron Man.

Местные жители прозвали его Терминатором.

The locals nicknamed him the Terminator.

При советской власти этим местам давали официальные названия

Under Soviet power, these places were given official names.

Красные горы, Кавалеридзе.

Red Mountains, Kavaleridze.

Горы Артема, но ничего не прижилось.

Mountains of Artem, but nothing has taken root.

Люди знали эти места, как святые горы.

People knew these places as the holy mountains.

Конечно, поругание этого места было кощунственное.

Of course, the desecration of this place was sacrilegious.

Храмы тогда тоже обезображены были, купола снесены на них,

The temples were also desecrated back then, their domes were demolished.

кресты, конечно, были убраны.

The crosses, of course, were removed.

Сам Успенский собор был перестроен под кинотеатр.

The Assumption Cathedral itself was converted into a movie theater.

А в Покровском храме, на самом святом месте, в алтаре,

And in the Pokrovsky Church, in the holiest place, in the altar,

была устроена грязелечебница.

A mud therapy center was established.

Здесь поставили две ванны и наполняли их грязью.

Two bathtubs were installed here and were filled with dirt.

Туда опускали людей, пытаясь лечить их тело, а не душу.

They lowered people there, trying to heal their bodies rather than their souls.

Во время гонения каким-то чудом сохранились святыни,

During the persecution, somehow the relics were preserved.

которые когда-то наполняли монастырь.

that once filled the monastery.

Икона святого чудотворца Николая,

Icon of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker,

из пещер, с мелового столба,

from the caves, from the chalk pillar,

была установлена в иконостасе Успенского собора.

was installed in the iconostasis of the Assumption Cathedral.

Когда монастырь закрыли, иконостас был уничтожен,

When the monastery was closed, the iconostasis was destroyed,

а образ святого исчез.

And the image of the saint disappeared.

От всего иконостаса осталась только одна икона,

Only one icon remains from the entire iconostasis,

архангела Гавриила.

Archangel Gabriel.

Ее спасли чудом.

She was saved by a miracle.

Эта икона единственная, сохранившаяся из иконостаса Успенского собора.

This icon is the only one that has survived from the iconostasis of the Assumption Cathedral.

В то время, когда монастырь был закрыт,

When the monastery was closed,

деревянные вещи из храмов,

wooden items from temples,

привезенные кивоты, иконы, полы, паркет,

brought reliquaries, icons, floors, parquet,

все это выносилось на кочегарку для отопления.

All of this was taken to the furnace for heating.

И кочегар, когда увидел, что привезена была целая икона,

And the stoker, when he saw that a whole icon had been brought,

они разбиты, он пожелал ее сохранить и спрятал кучу угля.

They are broken, he wished to preserve her and hid a pile of coal.

Его напарник, не зная, что там спрятана икона,

His partner, not knowing that an icon is hidden there,

он, зачерпывая уголь лопатой, прочеркнул по самой иконе.

He, scooping coal with a shovel, made a mark right across the icon.

И когда он достал эту икону, увидел, что это икона,

"And when he took out this icon, he saw that it was an icon,"

он увидел, что лопата счисляла изображение красок

He saw that the shovel was counting the image of the paints.

только вокруг одежды и вокруг лица архангела.

only around the clothing and around the face of the archangel.

Но при этом не затронула сами.

Изображение ни лицо, ни одежды архангела.

The image shows neither the face nor the clothing of the archangel.

И он увидел в этом такое особое знамение Божие, чудо Божие.

And he saw in this such a special sign of God, a miracle of God.

И эту икону сохранял уже всю свою дальнейшую жизнь

And he kept this icon for the rest of his life.

и передал ее своим потомкам.

and passed it down to his descendants.

Клубы, кинозалы были на святом месте.

Clubs and cinemas were on holy ground.

Это ужас просто.

This is just terrible.

Мы несем страшное наказание.

We bear a terrible punishment.

Мы несем страшное наказание за это сейчас.

We are facing a terrible punishment for this now.

Почему у нас и не ладится все в жизни, вообще, в политике нашей страны?

Why do we struggle with everything in life, especially in the politics of our country?

Потому что все прошло это без закона.

Because everything happened without the law.

Русь святая, она на небе так и осталась неделимой.

Holy Rus, it has remained undivided in heaven.

Россия, Украина, Белоруссия, они на небе нераздельны.

Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, they are inseparable in the sky.

И поэтому со всех уголков нашей святой Родины начнется крестный ход.

И завершится он на праздник Успения Божией Матери
