Rogamos por los niños que lo embarran todo de chocolate, que quieren que se les haga cosquillas,

We pray for the children who get everything dirty with chocolate, who want to be tickled,

que chapotean en los charcos y salpican y se manchan los pantalones,

that splash in the puddles and splatter and stain their pants,

que comen helado a escondidas antes de la cena,

that they eat ice cream in secret before dinner,

que borran hasta el papel en sus problemas de aritmética,

that they even erase the paper in their arithmetic problems,

que nunca encuentran sus zapatos.

that they never find their shoes.

Y rogamos por los que se quedan mirando a los fotógrafos detrás de las cercas de alambre,

And we pray for those who stand watching the photographers behind the wire fences,

que nunca han jugado en una cancha con unos tenis nuevos,

that they have never played on a court with new sneakers,

que oyen a otros niños cantar

that they hear other children singing

Los pollitos dicen pillo, pillo, pillo

The chicks say peep, peep, peep.

y se identifican con los pollitos que tienen hambre y tienen frío,

and they identify with the little chicks that are hungry and cold,

que nacen en lugares donde nadie debiera ni morir,

that are born in places where no one should even die,

que nunca van al circo,

they never go to the circus,

que viven en un mundo adecuado solo para adultos.

that live in a world suitable only for adults.

Rogamos por los niños,

We pray for the children,

que nos dan besos pegajosos y puñados de flores silvestres,

that give us sticky kisses and handfuls of wildflowers,

que duermen con el perro y entierran a los pececitos cuando mueren,

who sleep with the dog and bury the little fish when they die,

que nos abrazan deprisa y pierden el dinero que les damos,

that hug us quickly and lose the money we give them,

que se ponen curas innecesarias y cantan desafinados,

that unnecessary cures are put on and they sing out of tune,

que dejan rastros de la pasta dental en todo el lavamanos,

that leave traces of toothpaste all over the sink,

que hacen ruido al tomarse la sopa.

that make noise when drinking soup.

Y rogamos por los que nunca disfrutan de un postre,

And we pray for those who never enjoy a dessert,

que ven cómo sus padres los ven a ellos morirse,

that they see how their parents see them dying,

que no tienen ni frazada para taparse,

that they don't even have a blanket to cover themselves,

que no encuentran pan para robar,

that they can't find bread to steal,

que no tienen cuartos que arreglar,

that they have no rooms to fix,

cuyas fotos no aparecen en los tocadores de nadie y cuyos monstruos son de verdad.

whose photos do not appear on anyone's dressers and whose monsters are real.

Rogamos por los niños que gastan en un solo día lo que les dan sus padres para la merienda de la semana,

We pray for the children who spend in a single day what their parents give them for snacks for the week.

que dan berrinches en el supermercado y solo comen lo que se les antoja,

who throw tantrums in the supermarket and only eat what they crave,

que piden que se les cuenten historias de fantasmas,

they ask to be told ghost stories,

que esconden su ropa sucia debajo de la cama y nunca lavan la tina del baño.

who hide their dirty clothes under the bed and never wash the bathtub.

Que reciben visitas del ratoncito Pérez,

Who receive visits from little mouse Pérez,

que detestan que se les bese frente a sus amigos,

they hate being kissed in front of their friends,

que están inquietos en la iglesia y gritan al hablar por teléfono,

they are restless in the church and shout while talking on the phone,

cuyas lágrimas algunas veces nos hacen reír y cuyas sonrisas otras veces nos hacen llorar.

whose tears sometimes make us laugh and whose smiles other times make us cry.

Y rogamos por los que tienen pesadillas de día y no solo de noche,

And we pray for those who have nightmares during the day and not just at night,

que comen cualquier cosa,

they eat anything,

que nunca han sido atendidos por un dentista,

who have never been seen by a dentist,

que no son los niños mimados de nadie,

that they are not anyone's spoiled children,

que se acuestan con hambre y lloran,

that go to bed hungry and cry,

hasta dormirse,

until falling asleep,

que viven y se mueven,

that live and move,

pero que es como si no existieran.

but it is as if they did not exist.

Rogamos por los niños que quieren que alguien les cargue

We pray for the children who want someone to carry them.

y por los que necesitan ser cargados,

and for those who need to be loaded,

por aquellos en quienes nunca perdemos la esperanza

for those in whom we never lose hope

y por los que no tienen nada que esperar ni a nadie que los espere,

and for those who have nothing to wait for nor anyone to wait for them,

por los que colmamos de atenciones

for those whom we shower with attention

y por los que se aferran a cualquiera que les tienda la mano.

and for those who cling to anyone who extends a hand to them.

«Quien a los niños no amó, no diga que quiere a Dios,

porque cada niño que nace lleva estampada en el rostro la imagen de su divino Creador.

Because every child that is born bears the image of their divine Creator stamped on their face.

Y el que no ama a los niños ni siquiera conoce a Dios,

And whoever does not love children does not even know God,

porque Dios es amor».

Más vale que no solo roguemos,

It's better that we don't just pray,

sino que actuemos en favor de los niños necesitados de nuestro mundo.

but that we act in favor of the needy children in our world.

Todo lo que hacemos por ellos,

Everything we do for them,

lo hacemos por Dios mismo.

We do it for God himself.
