Es tiempo de escuchar.

It is time to listen.

Compartimos la lectura del primer domingo de Adviento del ciclo B.

We share the reading for the first Sunday of Advent of cycle B.

En aquel tiempo dijo Jesús a sus discípulos, mirad, vigilad, pues no sabéis cuándo es el momento.

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples, "Look, be vigilant, for you do not know when the time is."

Es igual que un hombre que se fue de viaje y dejó su casa y dio a cada uno de sus criados su tarea, encargando al portero que velara.

It is like a man who went on a trip and left his house and gave each of his servants their task, commanding the doorkeeper to watch.

Velad entonces, pues no sabéis cuándo vendrá el dueño de la casa, si al atardecer, o a medianoche, o al canto del gallo, o al amanecer.

Therefore keep watch, because you do not know when the owner of the house will come, whether at evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn.

No sea que venga inesperadamente y os encuentre dormidos.

In case he comes unexpectedly and finds you asleep.

Lo que os digo a vosotros, lo digo a todos.

What I say to you, I say to all.

La liturgia del Adviento.

The liturgy of Advent.

El Adviento bebe incesantemente de la virtud teologal de la esperanza.

Advent incessantly draws from the theological virtue of hope.

Las lecturas nos hablan tan naturalmente de la llegada de Dios a nuestras vidas, que a veces no sabemos cómo comprenderla.

The readings talk to us so naturally about the arrival of God in our lives that sometimes we don’t know how to understand it.

Podemos decir que el tiempo de Dios, a partir de la encarnación, se acerca al tiempo del hombre.

We can say that God's time, starting from the incarnation, approaches man's time.

O siguiendo nuestras precisiones, que el tiempo de Dios se manifiesta llevando a plenitud el tiempo del hombre.

Or following our clarifications, that God's time is manifested by bringing to fullness the time of man.

La eternidad.

Eternity.

Ha entrado en la historia del hombre.

It has entered the history of mankind.

El Adviento nos llama la atención sobre la utilización de nuestro tiempo.

Advent draws our attention to the use of our time.

Sobre las opciones que hemos hecho y que consumen nuestros días y horas.

About the options we have made that consume our days and hours.

Y en especial, debemos preguntarnos si vivimos en esta actitud de espera, de vigilante espera, como nos invita el Señor.

And especially, we must ask ourselves if we live in this attitude of waiting, of watchful waiting, as the Lord invites us.

Israel recibió de Dios su proyecto con el nombre de Alianza.

Israel received from God His project called Covenant.

Ella estaba sustentada sobre la tierra.

She was supported by the ground.

Sobre una promesa de amor.

About a promise of love.

Abraham fue el primero en recibir esta promesa y en haber creído en ella.

Abraham was the first to receive this promise and to have believed in it.

Vete de tu tierra y de tu patria y de la casa de tu padre a la tierra que yo te mostraré.

Leave your land and your homeland and your father's house to the land that I will show you.

En el escrito de los hebreos se alaba su fe.

In the writings of the Hebrews, their faith is praised.

Por la fe, Abraham, al ser llamado por Dios, obedeció y salió para el lugar que había de recibir en herencia.

By faith, Abraham, when called by God, obeyed and went out to the place he was to receive as an inheritance.

Y salió sin saber a dónde iba, se nos dice.

And he left not knowing where he was going, we are told.

En Hebreos 11, 8.

In Hebrews 11:8.

Lo propio de la fe no es fundarse en la experiencia, siempre limitada, sino fundarse en la promesa.

The essence of faith is not to be based on experience, which is always limited, but to be based on the promise.

Es decir, creer en cosas cuya experiencia aún no se tienen.

That is to say, believing in things for which experience has not yet been had.

La fe es una actitud para salir de sí.

Faith is an attitude to step outside of oneself.

A lo largo de la historia sagrada, somos invitados a vigilar.

Throughout sacred history, we are invited to watch.

Esto significa velar, estar despiertos para evitar ser sorprendidos.

This means to be vigilant, to stay awake to avoid being caught off guard.

Como el pastor que cuida de su rebaño en el Evangelio.

Like the shepherd who takes care of his flock in the Gospel.

O como aquellos que estando despiertos recibieron la gran noticia de ir a Belén para adorar al niño en el pesebre.

Or like those who, while awake, received the great news of going to Bethlehem to worship the child in the manger.

Vigilar es seguir a Jesús, elegir lo que Él eligió, amar lo que Él amó.

To watch over is to follow Jesus, to choose what He chose, to love what He loved.

Significa atender con amor a alguien, guardar cuidadosamente algo que vale mucho.

It means to care for someone with love, to carefully guard something that is very valuable.

Vigilar exige estar atentos, estar despiertos para entender lo que acontece.

To monitor requires being attentive, being awake to understand what is happening.

Ser agudos para intuir la dirección de los acontecimientos.

Be sharp to intuit the direction of events.

Estar preparados para hacer frente a la emergencia.

Be prepared to face the emergency.

Supone tener la percepción del tiempo en el horizonte del amor con el que Dios nos ama.

It means having the perception of time in the horizon of the love with which God loves us.

El Señor conoce la ambigüedad que se oculta en el tiempo del hombre.

The Lord knows the ambiguity that hides in man's time.

El día luminoso de nuestra salvación se acerca, pero todavía no ha alcanzado su esplendor.

The bright day of our salvation is approaching, but it has not yet reached its splendor.

Desde nuestro bautismo, la salvación de Dios está en nosotros.

Since our baptism, God's salvation is in us.

Pero en el transcurso de nuestras vidas debemos ir tomando más y más conciencia.

But as we go through our lives, we must become more and more aware.

De esta realidad, la Iglesia en el Adviento celebra la primera venida de Cristo en la carne

From this reality, the Church in Advent celebrates the first coming of Christ in the flesh.

y la que cotidianamente realiza Jesús a través de los sacramentos.

and the one that Jesus performs daily through the sacraments.

Pero también esa segunda venida en la que contemplaremos el final de la obra iniciada por Él.

But also that second coming in which we will witness the end of the work begun by Him.

Pero también nos advierte sobre dos obstáculos que pueden atentar contra el objeto de la esperanza.

But it also warns us about two obstacles that can threaten the object of hope.

Es el camino que a veces nos conduce a la desesperación.

It is the path that sometimes leads us to despair.

Que cobra dos formas en la Escritura.

Which takes two forms in the Scripture.

Una de ellas, el adormecimiento o decaimiento.

One of them is numbness or lethargy.

Y la otra, el desaliento o la tristeza.

And the other, the discouragement or sadness.

Estos son movimientos opuestos a la esperanza, que es loable y virtuosa.

These are movements opposed to hope, which is praiseworthy and virtuous.

Son los que nos mueven a la desesperación.

They are the ones who drive us to despair.

Para realizar un juicio.

To make a judgment.

Un juicio falso.

A false judgment.

El hombre que desespera piensa que Dios no perdona a un pecador arrepentido.

The man who despairs thinks that God does not forgive a repentant sinner.

El que desespera ve los cielos cerrados y no percibe ninguna salida.

He who despairs sees the skies closed and does not perceive any way out.

Incluso no se anima a pedir a Dios que los rasgue para bajar.

They are not even encouraged to ask God to tear them down.

Por eso el decaimiento o el sueño muchas veces viene sobre el cristiano.

That is why decay or sleep often comes over the Christian.

Y trata de ponernos en una actitud de evasión.

And it tries to put us in an attitude of evasion.

Nosotros debemos comprometernos con el proyecto amoroso de Dios.

We must commit ourselves to God's loving project.

Poner todas las cosas a los pies de Cristo para que éste las ofrezca al Padre.

Put all things at the feet of Christ so that He may offer them to the Father.

El hombre es el único que puede todos los días dignificar su obra, elevándola a la condición de ofrenda.

Man is the only one who can dignify his work every day, elevating it to the condition of an offering.

El sueño es un obstáculo.

Sleep is an obstacle.

Así ocurrió a los discípulos.

Thus it happened to the disciples.

Estando en un momento tan crucial de la pasión y siendo que Jesús les pide que velen con él, ellos se duermen.

Being in such a crucial moment of the passion and with Jesus asking them to watch with him, they fall asleep.

Cierran sus ojos ante la realidad y duermen.

They close their eyes to reality and sleep.

Mientras Jesús padece en la oración.

While Jesus suffers in prayer.

En la oración, la angustia de la llegada de su hora, duermen.

In the sentence, the anguish of the arrival of their hour, they sleep.

Duermen en la hora de Jesús.

They sleep during the hour of Jesus.

Por otra parte, también puede venir sobre nosotros el desaliento.

On the other hand, discouragement can also come upon us.

Ciertamente el enemigo quiere que desesperemos presentándonos el camino emprendido como demasiado arduo o la meta como imposible de alcanzar.

Certainly, the enemy wants us to despair by presenting the path we have undertaken as too arduous or the goal as impossible to reach.

El joven rico del evangelio ha emprendido el camino, pero la propuesta de Jesús se torna exigente y el joven se marcha.

The rich young man from the Gospel has set off on the journey, but Jesus' proposal becomes demanding and the young man departs.

El desaliento a nivel intraeclesial se viste con una mirada árida y excesivamente superficial en torno a la repercusión de la predicación del evangelio en la sociedad.

The discouragement at the intra-church level is dressed in a dry and excessively superficial perspective regarding the impact of the preaching of the gospel in society.

Ya San Pedro nos advertía, sabed ante todo, que en los últimos tiempos vendrán hombres llenos de sarcasmo, guiados por sus propias pasiones, que dirán en son de burla, donde queda la promesa de su venida.

Already St. Peter warned us, know above all, that in the last days there will come men full of sarcasm, led by their own passions, who will say in mockery, where is the promise of his coming.

Pues desde que murieron los padres, todo sigue como al principio.

Well, ever since the parents died, everything remains the same as it was in the beginning.

Nada detiene la obra de Dios.

Nothing stops the work of God.

Este es un anuncio del Adviento.

This is an Advent announcement.

Hay realidades que nos atemorizan o que nos hacen preguntarnos perplejamente cómo saldremos de esta situación.

There are realities that terrify us or make us wonder perplexedly how we will get out of this situation.

El securalismo que se cierne cruelmente sobre los creyentes, la cultura atea, el hedonismo y tantas otras formas de cerrar el horizonte del hombre,

The secularism that cruelly looms over believers, the atheistic culture, hedonism, and so many other ways of closing off the horizon of man,

no pueden.

they cannot.

Hoy el Señor, en el Evangelio, nos invita a velar.

Today the Lord, in the Gospel, invites us to watch.

Por eso, que nuestro corazón se mantenga en esta actitud interior.

Therefore, let our heart remain in this inner attitude.

Que podamos ir alcanzando esta disposición del corazón.

That we may reach this readiness of the heart.

Que tengamos nuestras lámparas preparadas.

Let us have our lamps prepared.

Que sepamos construir cada día esta actitud interior.

May we know how to build this inner attitude every day.

Que es esencial a la vida cristiana.

What is essential to the Christian life.

Cuando uno ama a una persona que ha partido, la guarda incesantemente, permanentemente.

When one loves a person who has departed, they hold them incessantly, permanently.

Y lo que sostiene esa espera es el amor.

And what sustains that wait is love.

Por eso, hermanos míos en el Señor, preguntémonos por el amor.

Therefore, my brothers in the Lord, let us ask ourselves about love.

¿Cuál es el amor que sostiene nuestra espera?

What is the love that sustains our waiting?

¿Qué alimenta nuestra vigilancia?

What feeds our vigilance?

¿Cuál es el amor que le tenemos al Señor?

What is the love we have for the Lord?

Pidámosle a la Virgen que nos ayude a adquirir esta forma de vida cristiana, que es la de estar vigilantes, atentos.

Let's ask the Virgin to help us acquire this way of Christian living, which is to be vigilant and attentive.

Para que el Señor, al regresar, nos encuentre con nuestras lámparas encendidas.

So that the Lord, upon His return, finds us with our lamps lit.

Nos encontraremos próximamente.
