Hoy día estamos hablando acerca del tema, ¿Cuál es la evidencia del arrepentimiento genuino?

Today we are talking about the topic, what is the evidence of genuine repentance?

Una vez le pregunté a un prominente teólogo acerca de cuál era la evidencia del arrepentimiento verdadero.

Once I asked a prominent theologian what the evidence of true repentance was.

Él me respondió que el arrepentimiento no tenía que ver con cambios en la conducta, sino tan solamente con un cambio de mente.

He answered me that repentance was not about changes in behavior, but rather just a change of mind.

Aunque su respuesta puede satisfacer a muchos, la palabra sagrada de nuestro Dios nos muestra otra cosa.

Although your answer may satisfy many, the sacred word of our God shows us otherwise.

Observemos lo que dicen las sagradas escrituras.

Let's observe what the holy scriptures say.

En primer lugar, el arrepentimiento se muestra por medio de frutos.

First of all, repentance is shown through fruits.

Mateo 3, versículo 8 nos dice, por tanto den frutos dignos de arrepentimiento.

Matthew 3, verse 8 tells us, therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance.

Eso se refiere a hechos concretos que indicaban una justicia interna.

This refers to concrete facts that indicated an internal justice.

No solo la apariencia.

Not just the appearance.

No solo la apariencia externa de actos para mostrarse justos como la práctica de los fariseos.

Not only the external appearance of acts to show themselves as righteous like the practice of the Pharisees.

Eso no lo leemos a Mateo 6, 5 o Mateo 23, 5.

We don't read that in Matthew 6:5 or Matthew 23:5.

Sino una justicia interna, la cual era demostrada por medio de frutos y hechos concretos.

But an internal justice, which was demonstrated through concrete fruits and deeds.

En segundo lugar, el arrepentimiento tiene que ver con volverse hacia Dios, haciendo obras que demuestran un verdadero cambio.

Secondly, repentance has to do with turning to God, doing works that demonstrate a true change.

En Hechos 26, 20 leemos que debían arrepentirse y volverse.

In Acts 26:20, we read that they must repent and turn back.

A Dios, haciendo obras dignas de arrepentimiento.

To God, performing works worthy of repentance.

Nota que dice obras dignas de arrepentimiento.

Note that it says works worthy of repentance.

El Nuevo Testamento nos muestra el ejemplo del arrepentimiento genuino por medio del testimonio de los tesalonicenses.

The New Testament shows us the example of genuine repentance through the testimony of the Thessalonians.

Leemos en Primera de Tesalonicenses, capítulo 1, versículo 9.

We read in First Thessalonians, chapter 1, verse 9.

Pues ellos mismos cuentan acerca de nosotros, de la acogida que tuvimos por parte de ustedes y de cómo se convirtieron.

Well, they themselves tell about us, about the welcome we received from you and how they converted.

Esto es, se devolvieron.

That is, they were returned.

De los ídolos a Dios, para servir al Dios vivo y verdadero.

From idols to God, to serve the living and true God.

¿Ves?

Do you see?

Los tesalonicenses abandonaron su adoración a ídolos, incluyendo la inmoralidad sexual extrema, que eran prácticas comunes en los ritos de idolatría.

The Thessalonians abandoned their worship of idols, including extreme sexual immorality, which were common practices in the rites of idolatry.

Y se habían devuelto en el sentido opuesto completamente para adorar, servir y obedecer exclusivamente al Dios verdadero.

And they had completely turned back in the opposite direction to worship, serve, and obey exclusively the true God.

Ellos abandonaron radicalmente su conducta.

They radically abandoned their behavior.

Y su forma de vida anterior.

And their previous way of life.

Eso es arrepentimiento genuino.

That is genuine remorse.

Siempre tiene que ver con un cambio de mente, pero que involucra las emociones y desde luego la conducta.

It always has to do with a change of mind, but it involves emotions and certainly behavior.

Sin embargo, el Nuevo Testamento nos muestra el ejemplo de personas que no quieren arrepentirse.

However, the New Testament shows us the example of people who do not want to repent.

En Apocalipsis, capítulo 9, versículo 20, leemos.

In Revelation, chapter 9, verse 20, we read.

El resto de la humanidad no se arrepintieron de las obras de sus manos.

The rest of humanity did not repent of the works of their hands.

Nota que dice que no se arrepintieron de las obras de sus manos.

Note that it says they did not repent of the works of their hands.

No de lo que pensaban, sino de las obras de sus manos.

Not of what they thought, but of the works of their hands.

Y continúa.

And it continues.

Ni dejaron de adorar a los demonios y a los ídolos de oro, de plata, de bronce, de piedra y de madera.

Nor did they stop worshiping demons and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood.

Que no pueden ver, ni oír, ni andar.

That they cannot see, hear, or walk.

Tampoco.

Neither.

No se arrepintieron de sus homicidios, ni de sus hechicerías, ni de su inmoralidad, ni de sus robos.

They did not repent of their homicides, nor of their sorceries, nor of their immorality, nor of their thefts.

¿Te das cuenta?

Do you realize?

El arrepentimiento en este contexto tiene que ver con un cambio, sí de mente inicialmente,

Regret in this context has to do with a change, yes, of mind initially,

pero que involucra un cambio de emociones hacia el pecado

but that involves a change of emotions towards sin

y evidentemente un cambio de conducta hacia el pecado y una práctica pecaminosa.

and evidently a change of behavior towards sin and a sinful practice.

Estas personas no se arrepintieron de las obras de sus manos.

These people did not repent of the works of their hands.

Ni dejaron la hechicería ni la idolatría.

They neither left sorcery nor idolatry.

Ni la inmoralidad ni sus robos.

Neither the immorality nor its thefts.

Por el contrario, estas personas al verse castigadas y juzgadas por un Dios que no admite teatros,

On the contrary, these people, when faced with being punished and judged by a God who does not accept theaters,

ni shows de religiosidad, ni caretas.

neither shows of religiosity, nor masks.

En Apocalipsis 16, 11 leemos que blasfemaron contra el Dios del cielo

In Revelation 16:11 we read that they blasphemed against the God of heaven.

y no se arrepintieron de sus obras.

and they did not repent of their works.

Así que siempre el arrepentimiento tiene que ver con dejar y abandonar una conducta pecaminosa.

So, regret always has to do with leaving and abandoning sinful behavior.

Y volverse a Dios.

And turn back to God.

Caminando, actuando y obrando de una manera radicalmente diferente.

Walking, acting, and working in a radically different way.

Es un cambio de mente y de sentimientos hacia el pecado que se manifiesta en un cambio de la conducta.

It is a change of mind and feelings towards sin that is manifested in a change of behavior.

En tercer lugar, el arrepentimiento es un cambio de dirección contraria del pecado hacia Dios.

Thirdly, repentance is a change of direction away from sin towards God.

Y era acompañado de la fe en el Señor Jesucristo.

And it was accompanied by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Siempre es acompañado de la fe en el Señor Jesucristo.

It is always accompanied by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Ese fue el mensaje que Pablo y el resto de los apóstoles efectivamente le dijeron.

That was the message that Paul and the rest of the apostles actually told him.

Hechos 20, 21 dice claramente, testificando solemnemente tanto a judíos como a griegos

Acts 20:21 clearly states, solemnly testifying to both Jews and Greeks.

del arrepentimiento para con Dios y de la fe en nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

of repentance towards God and of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

¿Ves? Pablo está diciendo cuál era el contenido de su mensaje.

Do you see? Pablo is saying what the content of his message was.

Y dice que él testificaba solemnemente tanto a judíos como a griegos del arrepentimiento para con Dios

And he says that he solemnly testified to both Jews and Greeks about repentance toward God.

y de la fe en nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

and in the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ.

En cuarto lugar, el arrepentimiento genuino produce que los pecados sean perdonados y borrados.

Fourthly, genuine repentance causes sins to be forgiven and erased.

En Hechos 3, 19 leemos lo que dice Pedro.

In Acts 3:19, we read what Peter says.

Por tanto, arrepiéntanse y conviértanse. Esto es, vuélvanse a Dios, literalmente.

Therefore, repent and convert. That is, turn back to God, literally.

Para que sus pecados sean borrados a fin de que tiempos de alivio vengan de la presencia del Señor.

So that your sins may be erased, in order that times of relief may come from the presence of the Lord.

¿Te das cuenta? El pueblo de Israel tenía que arrepentirse.

Do you realize? The people of Israel had to repent.

Y volverse a Dios para que sus pecados sean borrados.

And turn to God so that their sins may be erased.

El mismo concepto que leemos en Lucas capítulo 24, versículo 47.

The same concept that we read in Luke chapter 24, verse 47.

Cuando el Señor Jesús habla de que en su nombre se predicará el arrepentimiento para el perdón de los pecados

When the Lord Jesus speaks of preaching repentance for the forgiveness of sins in His name.

a todas las naciones, comenzando desde Jerusalén.

to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

Entonces, el mensaje a predicarse era el arrepentimiento para el perdón de los pecados.

Then, the message to be preached was repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

Y esto debía hacerse.

And this had to be done.

Esto debía hacerse a todas las naciones.

This had to be done to all nations.

Comenzando desde la nación de Israel y específicamente desde la ciudad de Jerusalén.

Starting from the nation of Israel and specifically from the city of Jerusalem.

En quinto lugar, la falta de arrepentimiento genuino demuestra la ausencia del temor a Dios.

In fifth place, the lack of genuine repentance demonstrates the absence of the fear of God.

Una ausencia de respeto, reverencia, honra o humildad a Él.

A lack of respect, reverence, honor, or humility towards Him.

Por el contrario, el orgullo y la autosuficiencia hacen al hombre tener una percepción pobre de su propio pecado

On the contrary, pride and self-sufficiency make a man have a poor perception of his own sin.

delante de Dios, el cual merece todo respeto, reverencia, honra y humildad, lo cual es el temor reverente.

Before God, who deserves all respect, reverence, honor, and humility, which is the reverent fear.

Él merece nuestro temor reverente.

He deserves our reverent fear.

No obstante, la ausencia de un temor reverente que rehúsa arrepentirse es evidencia de un corazón malo de incredulidad.

However, the absence of a reverent fear that refuses to repent is evidence of a wicked heart of unbelief.

Isaías 47.10 dice, te sentiste segura en tu maldad y dijiste, nadie me ve.

Isaiah 47:10 says, you felt secure in your wickedness and said, nobody sees me.

Tu sabiduría y tu conocimiento te han engañado.

Your wisdom and your knowledge have deceived you.

Y dijiste en tu corazón, yo y nadie más.

And you said in your heart, me and no one else.

Ezequiel 8.12 dice, me dijo entonces, hijo de hombre, ¿has visto lo que hacen en la oscuridad los ancianos de la casa de Israel?

Ezekiel 8:12 says, then he said to me, son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness?

Cada uno en su cámara de imágenes grabadas.

Each one in their chamber of recorded images.

Porque ellos dicen, el Señor no nos ve.

For they say, the Lord does not see us.

El Señor ha abandonado la tierra.

The Lord has forsaken the earth.

Sin embargo, el Señor observaba.

However, the Lord was watching.

En Jeremías 7.11 leemos, se ha convertido esta casa que es llamada por mi nombre.

In Jeremiah 7:11 we read, this house which is called by my name has become.

En cueva de ladrones, delante de sus ojos.

In a thieves' cave, before their eyes.

Yo mismo lo he visto, declara el Señor.

I myself have seen it, declares the Lord.

El Señor nos había llamado al arrepentimiento, pero rehusaron volverse de sus acciones malas de incredulidad.

The Lord had called us to repentance, but they refused to turn from their wicked actions of unbelief.

En el versículo 13 leemos, y ahora por cuanto han hecho todas estas obras, declara el Señor.

In verse 13 we read, and now because they have done all these works, declares the Lord.

Y a pesar de que les hablé desde temprano, y hablando sin cesar, no oyeron.

And despite the fact that I spoke to them early on, and spoke without ceasing, they did not listen.

Los llamé, pero no respondieron.

I called them, but they didn't answer.

Por ese motivo, Dios destruiría su templo, la casa en la cual ellos confiaban, y los echaría de su presencia.

For that reason, God would destroy his temple, the house in which they trusted, and would cast them away from his presence.

En el versículo 14, continuamos leyendo.

In verse 14, we continue reading.

Como hice con Silo, así haré con la casa que es llamada por mi nombre, en la cual confían, y al lugar que di a ustedes y a sus padres.

As I did with Shiloh, so I will do with the house that is called by my name, in which you trust, and to the place that I gave to you and to your ancestors.

Y los echaré de mi presencia, como eché a todos sus hermanos, a toda la descendencia de Efraín.

And I will cast them out of my presence, as I cast out all their brothers, all the descendants of Ephraim.

En el versículo 20 dice el Señor.

In verse 20 the Lord says.

Por tanto, así dice el Señor Dios.

Therefore, thus says the Lord God.

Mi ira y mi furor serán derramados sobre este lugar, sobre los hombres y sobre los animales, sobre los árboles del campo y sobre el fruto de la tierra.

My anger and my fury will be poured out on this place, on the men and on the animals, on the trees of the field and on the fruit of the land.

Arderá y no se apagará.

It will burn and not be extinguished.

De manera que la Escritura nos demuestra que para Dios la falta de arrepentimiento es un pecado muy serio.

Thus, Scripture shows us that for God, the lack of repentance is a very serious sin.

Puesto que evidencia el pecado de la incredulidad.

Since it evidences the sin of unbelief.

El cual tiene como consecuencia la condenación.

Which has the consequence of condemnation.

En sexto lugar, el arrepentimiento es una gracia de Dios por medio de su Espíritu Santo.

In sixth place, repentance is a grace from God through His Holy Spirit.

Al igual que lo es la fe.

Just like faith is.

Tal como nos dice Efesios capítulo 2 versículo 8 al 9.

Just as Ephesians chapter 2 verse 8 to 9 tells us.

Por causa de esta realidad, debemos orar para que Dios les conceda arrepentirse a quienes necesitan hacerlo.

Because of this reality, we must pray that God grants repentance to those who need it.

Al contrario de lo que piensan algunos.

On the contrary to what some think.

El arrepentimiento no es una obra humana para la salvación.

Repentance is not a human work for salvation.

Sino una gracia que Dios otorga.

But a grace that God grants.

Una gracia que Dios da.

A grace that God gives.

Según el Timoteo 2.25 dice.

According to Timothy 2:25 it says.

Debe reprender tiernamente a los que se oponen.

You must gently reprimand those who oppose.

Por si acaso Dios les da el arrepentimiento.

Just in case God gives them repentance.

Que conduce al pleno conocimiento de la verdad.

Which leads to the full knowledge of the truth.

Y volviendo en sí.

And coming to oneself.

Escapen del diablo.

Escape from the devil.

Habiendo estado caminando.

Having been walking.

Habiendo estado cautivos de él.

Having been captives of him.

Para hacer su voluntad.

To do your will.

La construcción en el griego original.

Habla de dar, conceder, permitir.

It speaks of giving, granting, allowing.

De esta manera entendemos que el arrepentimiento es una gracia.

In this way, we understand that repentance is a grace.

Que Dios da, otorga, permite.

What God gives, grants, allows.

Por medio de su Espíritu Santo.

Through his Holy Spirit.

Y en Hechos 11.18.

And in Acts 11:18.

Leemos una verdad paralela.

We read a parallel truth.

Donde se nos dice.

Where we are told.

Al oír esto se calmaron.

Upon hearing this, they calmed down.

Y glorificaron a Dios diciendo.

And they glorified God, saying.

Así que también a los gentiles.

So also to the Gentiles.

Ha concedido Dios.

God has granted.

El arrepentimiento que conduce a la vida.

The repentance that leads to life.

Ves la palabra ahí.

You see the word there.

This tells us.

Concede o ha concedido.

El arrepentimiento para la vida.

Dios es el que puede conceder.

God is the one who can grant.

Ese arrepentimiento.

That regret.

No es una obra humana.

It is not a human work.

Es una obra de Dios.

It is a work of God.

Si Dios da y concede el arrepentimiento.

If God grants and bestows repentance.

Como es que algunos sostienen.

How is it that some hold?

Que el arrepentimiento es agregar una obra humana.

That regret is adding a human work.

Para la salvación.

For salvation.

No obstante.

Nevertheless.

El arrepentimiento sigue siendo.

Regret endures.

Una gracia que Dios concede.

A grace that God grants.

El conocido teólogo.

El arrepentimiento no es la causa.

Repentance is not the cause.

De un nuevo nacimiento o regeneración.

Pues la idea bíblica.

Es que el arrepentimiento es una consecuencia.

Él nos salvó.

He saved us.

No por las obras de justicia.

Not for the works of justice.

Que nosotros hubiéramos hecho.

Sino conforme a su misericordia.

But according to his mercy.

Por medio del lavamiento de la regeneración.

Through the washing of regeneration.

Y la renovación.

And the renewal.

Por el Espíritu Santo.

By the Holy Spirit.

¿Ves?

Do you see?

Somos salvos.

We are saved.

No por las obras que nosotros hacemos.

Not for the works that we do.

Sino por la obra que Él ha hecho.

But by the work that He has done.

El Espíritu Santo ha hecho.

The Holy Spirit has done.

Por medio del lavamiento de la regeneración.

By means of the washing of regeneration.

Y la renovación.

And the renewal.

Por el mismo Espíritu Santo.

By the same Holy Spirit.

Entonces.

So.

¿Cuál es la evidencia del arrepentimiento genuino?

What is the evidence of genuine repentance?

El fruto que produce.

The fruit that it produces.

Es decir el cambio de la conducta.

That is to say the change of behavior.

En Santiago.

In Santiago.

Capítulo 2 versículo 18 leemos.

Chapter 2, verse 18, we read.

Yo te mostraré mi fe por mis obras.

I will show you my faith through my works.

Así que en séptimo lugar.

So in seventh place.

Vamos a concluir con que la fe salvadora.

We will conclude with that saving faith.

Genuina.

Genuine.

Siempre incluye obras de arrepentimiento.

It always includes works of repentance.

Para con Dios.

Stop with God.

En Santiago capítulo 2 versículo 14.

In James chapter 2, verse 14.

Leemos.

We read.

De qué sirve hermanos míos.

What good is it, my brothers?

Si alguien dice que tiene fe.

If someone says they have faith.

Pero no tiene obras.

But it doesn't have any works.

¿Acaso puede esa fe salvarlo?

Can that faith save him?

Por estas razones.

For these reasons.

Si alguien dice yo me he arrepentido.

If someone says I have regretted it.

Pero su comportamiento no cambia radicalmente.

But their behavior does not change radically.

Entonces.

So.

No hay evidencia de obras.

There is no evidence of works.

Frutos correspondientes.

Corresponding fruits.

Y por ende.

And therefore.

No ha ocurrido un arrepentimiento genuino.

There has been no genuine remorse.

El asunto no es tan sólo decir.

The matter is not just about saying.

Entre comillas.

In quotes.

Una nueva vida.

A new life.

O una vida nueva.

Or a new life.

Si no.

If not.

Mostrar la evidencia de una vida.

Show the evidence of a life.

Que se ha vuelto a Dios.

That he has turned back to God.

Haciendo obras dignas de arrepentimiento.

Doing works worthy of repentance.

Tal como dice.

Just as it says.

Hechos capítulo 26 versículo 20.

Acts chapter 26 verse 20.

Con un corazón cambiado.

With a changed heart.

Y que aborrece sus pecados pasados.

And that he abhors his past sins.
