La mentalidad general ha sucumbido a la tentación de que la vida es un bien a veces,

The general mentality has succumbed to the temptation that life is a good sometimes,

a la opinión de que una vida con discapacidades o vejez o enfermedades o pobreza puede no merecer la pena.

to the opinion that a life with disabilities, old age, illness, or poverty may not be worth living.

La idea sencilla de que vivir es un regalo en sí ya prácticamente solo la sostiene la Iglesia.

The simple idea that living is a gift is practically upheld only by the Church.

Como si la pérdida de la conciencia cristiana generase,

As if the loss of Christian consciousness generated,

conllevase también la pérdida del sentido común.

it also entails the loss of common sense.

Como si al alejarse de Dios, el hombre, dejase de defender al hombre

As if by distancing himself from God, man ceased to defend man.

y dejase también por el camino algo de su humanidad.

and also left behind some of his humanity along the way.

Occidente ya no cree en la vida como un bien sin fisuras, y eso le proporciona una gran debilidad.

The West no longer believes in life as an unblemished good, and that provides it with a great weakness.

Ya no podemos arriesgarnos como cultura a salvar todas y cada una de las vidas,

We can no longer afford as a culture to save every single life,

ni como médicos, ni como geriatras, ni como madres ante el aborto.

neither as doctors, nor as geriatricians, nor as mothers regarding abortion.

Hemos inaugurado un periodo donde la muerte puede ser un bien,

y seremos derrotados por las culturas de la vida.

and we will be defeated by the cultures of life.

Capaces de tener hijos y multiplicarse.

Y es curioso, insisto, que los hombres y mujeres que no comulgan con la cultura de la muerte

And it's interesting, I insist, that the men and women who do not agree with the culture of death

tienen tan solo el refugio de la Iglesia.
