Peace and blessings be upon our master Muhammad and upon his family and companions altogether.

Ey kardeş!

Oh brother!

Benden birkaç nasihat istedin.

You asked me for some advice.

Sen bir asker olduğun için, askerlik temsilatıyla,

Because you are a soldier, with the representation of the military,

sekiz hikayeciklerle birkaç hakikatı nefsimle beraber dinle.

Listen to a few truths along with my soul through eight short stories.

Çünkü ben nefsime herkesten ziyade nasihata muhtaç görüyorum.

Because I see my soul as needing advice more than anyone else.

Vaktiyle sekiz ayetten istifade ettiğim sekiz sözü biraz uzunca nefsime demiştim.

In the past, I had somewhat lengthy spoken to my soul about eight words, which I benefited from eight verses.

Şimdi kısaca ve avam lisanıyla nefsime diyeceğim.

Now I will briefly say to my soul, in simple language.

Birinci Söz

First Word

Bismillah her hayrın başıdır.

In the name of Allah, every good thing begins.

Bizdaki başta ona başlarız.

We start with him first.

Bil ey nefsim!

Know, O my soul!

Şu mübarek kelime İslam nişanı olduğu gibi,

This blessed word is a sign of Islam as well,

bütün mevcudatın lisan-ı hâliyle virdi zebanıdır.

It is the tongue of all existence, expressed through its state.

Bismillah ne büyük tükenmez bir kuvvet,

In the name of Allah, what a great inexhaustible strength.

ne çok bitmez bir bereket olduğunu anlamak istersen,

if you want to understand how endless a blessing can be,

şu temsili hikayeciye bak, dinle.

Look at that representative storyteller, listen.

Şöyle ki,

That is to say,

Bedevi Arap çöllerinde seyahat eden adama gerektir ki,

A Bedouin traveling in the Arabian deserts requires that,

bir kabile reisinin ismini alsın ve himayesine girsin.

Take the name of a tribal chief and seek his protection.

Ta şakiyelerin şerrinden kurtulup,

To escape from the malice of those who mock,

hacatını tedarik edebilsin.

He/she can obtain his/her needs.

Yoksa tek başıyla,

Otherwise alone,

hadsiz düşman ve ihtiyacatına karşı perişan olacaktır.

He will be devastated against the ruthless enemy and his needs.

İşte böyle bir seyahat için,

Onlardan birisi mütevaziydi,

Bir katiyüt tarika rast gelse,

If a direct path were to encounter,

Şakî def olur, ilişemez.

A scoundrel will be removed, cannot touch.

Bir çadıra girse,

If he/she enters a tent,

ona bile hürmet görür.

He even receives respect.

Öteki mağrur,

The other is proud,

bütün seyahatinde öyle belalar çeker ki,

"Throughout your entire journey, you will face such troubles that,"

tarif edilmez.

It cannot be described.

Daima titrer,

It always trembles,

daima dilencilik ederdi.

He always begged.

Hem zelil, hem rezil oldu.

He became both humiliated and disgraced.

İşte ey mağrur nefsim!

Here, oh my proud soul!

Sen o seyyahsın.

You are that traveler.

Şu dünya ise bir çöldür.

This world is a desert.

Aczin ve fakrın hadsizdir.

Your neediness and poverty are limitless.

Düşmanın, hacatın nihayetsizdir.

The enemy's attempts are endless.

Madem öyledir,

If that's the case,

şu sahranın malik-i ebedisi

the eternal owner of this desert

ve hâkim-i ezelisinin

and the eternal judge's

ismini al.

Take your name.

Tâ bütün kâinatın dilenciliğinden

"From the begging of the entire universe."

ve her hâdisatın karşısında

and in the face of every event

titremeden kurtulasın.

Evet, bu kelime öyle mübarek bir definedir ki,

Yes, this word is such a blessed treasure that,

senin nihayetsiz aczin ve fakrın,

your endless helplessness and poverty,

seni nihayetsiz kudrete,

to your limitless power,

rahmete rapt edip,

by entrusting it to mercy,

Kadir-i Rahim'in dergâhında

In the presence of the Merciful Lord.

aczi, fakrı,

poverty, destitution,

en makbul bir şefaatçi yapar.

He makes the best intercessor.

Evet, bu kelimeyle hareket eden

Yes, one who acts with this word.

o adama benzer ki,

he resembles that man,

askere kaydolur,

enlists in the army,

devlet namına hareket eder.

It acts on behalf of the state.

Hiçbir kimseden pervası kalmaz.

No one will have any fear left.

Kanun namına, devlet namına der,

"By the name of the law, by the name of the state, it says,"

her işi yapar,

she does all her work,

her şeye karşı dayanır.

It withstands everything.

Başta demiştik,

We said at the beginning,

bütün mevcudat lisan hâlle bismillah der.

All beings say "bismillah" in the language of their existence.

Öyle mi?

Is that so?

Evet, nasıl ki görsen,

Yes, just as you would see,

bir tek adam geldi,

only one man came,

bütün şehir ahâlesini cebren bir yere sevk etti

He forcibly drove the entire city population to a place.

ve cebren işlerde çalıştırdı.

and compelled them to work in the affairs.

Yakînen bilirsin,

You know very well,

o adam kendi namıyla,

that man by his own name,

kendi kuvvetiyle hareket etmiyor.

It is not moving with its own power.

Belki o, bir askerdir.

Maybe he is a soldier.

Devlet namına hareket eder.

He acts on behalf of the state.

Bir padişah kuvvetine istinad eder.

It relies on the power of a sultan.

Öyle de,

So be it,

her şey Cenab-ı Hakk'ın namına hareket eder ki,

Everything acts in the name of the Almighty.

zerrecikler gibi tohumlar, çekirdekler,

particles like seeds, kernels,

başlarında koca ağaçları taşıyor,

they carry big trees on their heads,

dağ gibi yükleri kaldırıyorlar.

They are lifting loads like mountains.

Demek her bir ağaç,

So each tree,

bismillah der.

He says "in the name of Allah."

Hazine-i rahmet meyvelerinden ellerini dolduruyor,

He fills his hands with the fruits of the treasury of mercy,

bizlere tablacılık ediyor.

They are playing table games with us.

Her bir bostan, bismillah der.

Each garden starts with bismillah.

Matbaa-yı kudretten bir kazan olur ki,

It becomes a cauldron from the printing of power,

çeşit çeşit, pek çok muhtelif leziz taamlar,

a variety of delicious dishes.

içinde beraber pişiriliyor.

It is cooked together inside.

Her bir inek, deve, koyun, keçi gibi mübarek hayvanlar,

Each cow, camel, sheep, and goat, like blessed animals,

bismillah der.

He says "In the name of God."

Rahmet feyizinden birer süt çeşmesi olur.

They will be like fountains of milk from the grace of mercy.

Bizlere, rezzak namına,

To us, in the name of the provider,

en latif, en nazif,

the most delicate, the most elegant,

âb-ı hayat gibi bir gıdayı takdim ediyorlar.

They present a sustenance like the water of life.

Her bir nebat ve ağaç ve otların,

Each plant, tree, and grass,

ipek gibi yumuşak kök ve damarları,

silky soft roots and veins,

bismillah der.

He says "In the name of God."

Sert olan taş ve tohumlar,

Hard stones and seeds,

toprağı, deler, geçer.

It pierces the ground and passes through.

Allah namına, Rahman namına der,

In the name of Allah, in the name of the Merciful, he says,

Everything is subjected to him.

Evet, havada dalların intişarı ve meyve vermesi gibi,

Yes, like the branching and fruiting of trees in the air,

o sert taş ve topraktaki köklerin,

the roots in that hard stone and soil,

Ve o sigara kağıdı gibi ince nazenin yapraklar,

And those delicate leaves, thin like cigarette papers,

birer Azai İbrahim aleyhisselam gibi,

like one of the Azais, like Ibrahim, peace be upon him,

ateş saçan hararete karşı,

against the fiery heat,

ayetini okuyorlar.

They are reading the verse.

Madem her şey,

Since everything,

manen bismillah,

In the name of God,

Allah namına Allah'ın nimetlerini getirip bizlere veriyorlar.

In the name of God, they bring the blessings of God and give them to us.

Biz dahi bismillah demeliyiz.

We too must say bismillah.

Allah namına vermeliyiz.

We must give in the name of Allah.

Allah namına almalıyız.

We must take it in the name of Allah.

Öyleyse Allah namına vermeyen gafil insanlardan almamalıyız.

Then we should not take from heedless people who do not give in the name of God.

Tablacı hükmünde olan insanlara bir fiyat veriyoruz.

We give a price to people who are in the position of a dealer.

Acaba asıl mal sahibi olan Allah ne fiyat istiyor?

I wonder what price does the true owner, Allah, want?

The answer.

Evet o müneim-i hakiki,

Yes, that true benefactor,

bizden o kıymetdar nimetlere, mallara bedel,

"Instead of those precious blessings and goods from us,"

istediği fiyat ise üç şeydir.

The price he wants is three things.

Biri zikir, biri şükür, biri fikirdir.

One is remembrance, one is gratitude, and one is thought.

Başta bismillah zikirdir.

At the beginning, saying "Bismillah" is a form of remembrance.

Ahirde elhamdülillah şükürdür.

In the end, thank God, it's a blessing.

Ortada bu kıymetdar harikayı sanat olan nimetler,

In the middle, these precious blessings that are wonders of art,

ehad-i samedin mucize-i kudreti ve hediye-i rahmeti olduğunu düşünmek ve derk etmek fikirdir.

It is a thought to consider and understand that the Oneness of God is a miraculous power and a gift of His mercy.

Bir padişahın kıymetdar bir hediyesini sana getiren bir miskin adamın,

The poor man who brings you a valuable gift from a sultan,

ayağını öpüp hediye sahibini tanımamak ne derece belahet ise,

kissing someone's foot and not knowing the gift giver is how much of a folly it is,

öyle de zahiri müneimleri medih ve muhabbet edip,

"Thus, they praise and express love for the outwardly apparent blessings."

müneim-i hakiki'yi unutmak ondan bin derece daha belahettir.

Forgetting the true benefactor is a thousand times more disastrous.

Ey nefis! Böyle ebleh olmamak istersen,

Oh soul! If you do not want to be so foolish,

Allah namına ver, Allah namına al,

Give in the name of God, take in the name of God.

Allah namına başla, Allah namına işle ve selam.

Start in the name of God, work in the name of God, and peace.
